It really seems to depend on the range. Their British and DAK (and late war Germans) were sculpted by someone else besides Sean Judd who did much of their other stuff. It seems all of the British and DAK are on the smaller end and could be considered 25mm. That is not the case with their French, Early War Germans, Soviets, etc. sculpted by Judd. Those ranges are all 28mm and do match up in size with most other 28mm. The thing to consider is that few of Sean's sculpts for those ranges are standing upright. Almost all are in a crouched low advancing pose, prone, or kneeling, and they often end up looking shorter when photographed next to other 28mm ranges. Their bulk and detail are similar to 28mm though.

I started doing something like this at http://mainly28s.com (http://mainly28s.com). I even developed a patented comparison system, and put up loads of pictures. The biggest challenge I faced was getting enough sample figures to provide the comparison pictures.

Wow, only $196 for the Mustang. Totally seems fair  lol

I sat in the last Canadian wartime Mustang a couple of years ago. it was pretty cool.

Great! Only $200 plus a couple of weeks sanding, filling, re-scribing panel lines, sanding, sanding again, a bit more sanding, buffing then maybe hoping that the primer smooths out the remaining ridges and dunes.

To think I could spend $20 on a far more detailed 1/48 model of a P-51 and easier to construct but where's the fun in that? Actually for $200 I could probably have a couple of high quality, diecast pre-paints for that price.

Post by: Wargames General on November 16, 2015, 09:35:16 AM
I bought other times in Shapeways. 1/56 scale vehicles (only a pair) and accesories, never need sand, only to fix and paint. I hope this time will be the same. They use a plastic powder 3d printer and usually they have very quality products. Very different from the plastic wire 3d printers.

It is a expensive plane, of course, but I think is due to the materials and the limited production. Is not a factory. For my army I only need one P51 Mustang (or two for collection) to give some air support using the Bolt Action´s extended air support rules. Very funny when the opponent has anti-aircraft guns or another plane. And in this case you can buy too stand, pilots and bombs. According to vendor, you can choose to put the detachable tanks or the bombs whenever you want, and the same for the landing gear. :o

I hope to see 1/56 scale plastic aircrafts from Revell or other maker. From my point of view is only to change the scale of the actual commercial models.   :? . In the meanwhile I think this is a good option to have all the army on the same scale consistently.

I have the 1/56 scale BF 109 G6 Messerschmitt from Shapeways. Really perfect, highly recomended. Don´t need to sand. Now looking for a good paint scheme.  o_o

Too late. I have one :D. Christmas too. Thank you.

Really very good quality. Expensive but very good quality. Panel lines well defined and the possibility to change the undercarriage between close or open is fantastic.

After see the P51D I sent an e-mail to them asking for more airplanes. BF109E, Corsair, Spitfire, ...

And now waiting Stuka from Blitzkrieg Miniatures. Perry has the german pilots.

A few months ago I saw a news item about some new 28mm WWII American infantry. They were plastic, and were described as being close to heroic 28mm. They were the. Whining of a new line but I seem to recall it was an older company. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks.

There was an article in WI that covered the Aleutian Islands campaign. Also if you search WWPD posts, I think one of them did a Japanese force using Soviet greatcoated figs for winterised conversions.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer of 28mm winter gear IJA suitable for Manchuria and China during the 30's/40's?
Title: Re: 28mm Figures for World War II
Post by: Ingmar on February 05, 2017, 08:42:02 AM
@ Poiter50

Thanks for your reply. I think you mean WI351, containing an article called "The land of the 50 mph fog", in which the author basically says "splice together some warlord games plastics" to get wintercoat Japanese.

Though suitable for some (I have seen one of the contributors of boltaction.net use this method), I should clarify what I'm really looking for. Metal models in 28mm scale of Japanese in wintery conditions; preferably greatcoats and the like, as seen in the illustrations of Stephen Andrews.

I'm looking forward the tin hat versions.

Just picked up the first lot. SMG's, Brens and specialists to follow. I understand that there will be both helmet and slouch hat versions of most, if not all, figures, save for maybe some of the specialists and bareheaded ones. If you haven't kept up with the releases there's also a flamethrower operator, radio operator with separate radio and crate to mount it on as well as two slouch-hatted figures with walkie talkies, ideal as platoon commanders, FO's etc.

By the by the Warlord Games tin hats from their British infantry fit on the bare heads quite well, I've just converted the spotter for the sniper pair by sticking a helmet on the figure.  Worth picking up one of the Italeri boxes as there are plenty of useful items to customise the figures, 2" mortars, packs shovels etc, etc.

Hopefully, I should have a second platoon in tin hats before long, this one for Buna-Gona.

It's a great list, but it needs updated, for example; 1st Corps do Late War British, and I think there also needs to be a division in the 'British/Commonwealth' figures, I am looking for BEF, and they have a different look, even in Europe depending on whether they are 39-40 BEF in France, 40 BEF in Norway, 1943-45 in Sicily/Italy, 1944 in Normandy -> Market Garden, and then Late War 45 in winter into the Rhine and Holland.

Eureka have just released the start of a range of Japanese infantry. Eleven figures so far, all in helmets and shirt sleeve uniforms. One officer, one LMG gunner and nine riflemen in a variety of poses, one of whom is clearly the gunner’s number two, carrying spare magazines. Nic says they are talking about kepi, camouflaged helmet and scruffy, ripped uniform variants. Not in the shop yet.
