Dear LPL Season 2 Participants, now I know what we are going to paint for the bonus in the Round 10.
The bonus theme will be.....Back of Beyond!
Now who would claim it's up to the current passion of the admin of this forum for the Central Asia...errr...maybe...yes, perhaps there's something in it. It's good to be admin, isn't it? Well, anyway, I'm back in Kashgar and want you there too :)
Ok, what I have in mind is:
Paint a troup of 10 (yes, 10!) BoB foot soldiers (Reds, Whites, Brits, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetans, Mongols, Turks etc.) and get 10 points Bonus
Paint a troup of 5 mounted soldiers and get 15 points
Paint a troup of 10 soldiers and an armoured car/tank or 5 cavalry riders and an armoured car/tank and get 20 points.
Paint a troup of 10 soldiers and an armoured train or 5 cavalry riders and an armoured train and get 25 points.
Before you ask, NO, no adventurers, no dino hunters. There are too many painted adventurers out there. I want to see a sort of uniformed unit, suitable to the Central Asia of 1920, that's the stuff we need!
Well...any questions? No? Then get painting!
-
Well...any questions?
Oops... 1 Sec. please.
Is the deadline 11 May?
-
Great! Would an armored train count?

June 8th
Great! Would an armored train count?
good idea, now we have a new option for the bonus:
Paint a troup of 10 soldiers and an armoured train or 5 riders and an armoured train and get 25 points.
-
Eeep! A whole train! Where do I get one?!?

again, to prevent misunderstanding, 11 May is the final registration for the Season 2.
June 8th is the deadline for the Round 10.

10 soldiers and an armoured train or 5 riders and an armoured train ?!?
No problem I have the old HLBS Train
-
Mmm. Sounds interesting. I've never painted BoB before. Apart from the obvious and excellent Copplestone range what other lines do Gamers use for this? I mean, do late war WW1 count? French Foreign legion and Arabs?
I'm just curious, as if I have time to "have a go" I'll probably buy some Copplestone. Just be interesting to see what others have used in the past. :)
-
Very much of Bob Murch would do, Chineses, Japaneses, Brits, Germans etc.
Unfortunately never heard of French Foreign Legion in Central Asia :) I could maybe imagine Arabs as proxies for Basmachis.
But Basmachis didnt use to wear turban, rather tubeteyka, like this:

Ok, I'll rephrase, that, where do I get the funds for one? :P
Matter of fact, I don't think I have a single model in the correct uniform (I'm assuming that this is historical, and not open to interpretation i.e. correct uniforms, correct weapons, and correct armoured train. Seeing I'll never manage all that, I'm going to try tohave a bit of fun with something of a - ah - parallel development. I won't get the points, but it should be fun :) If I manage on time, that is.

That is the right attitude :)
-
Guess who's off to ELC for a train set, then.....?
-
Dredded history! Anyone know of any good/quick reference material on the appropriate theme? Osprey books? Again, history is all that stuff that happened before me so that's a bad start right there...and since the history part of my brain is full of Hammer Horror films and Rocky Horror Picture Show Songs it will take some dooing, but dammit I'll give it a go. Like I say, I've got no idea at all about BoB so anything is a help really...
-
welcome to the world of Back of Beyond :)
here you'll find not really correct historical infos but some pics of some painted BoB miniatures - http://www.backofbeyond.de/

Thank you Sir.

Another clarification, please:
What about an artillery piece plus crew? Does this count towards the tank/armoured car? If so, counts the crew as infantry, or are another 10 infantry required?
Just thinking about a possible team among my lead mountain, won't like to buy anything new ...
-
I'd say artillery piece plus crew counts as tank/armoured car. Crew doesn't count as infantry. Thus another 10 infantry or 5 riders required.
-
Paint a troup of 10 soldiers and an armoured car/tank or 5 riders and an armoured car/tank and get 20 points.
I've been wanting to paint an armored car for a while. Can someone point me towards one that will hold five riders? I assume a "rider" is someone actually mounted on the car?
-
not mounted on the car, riders means horse riders or 5 cavalry ones
-
How about mule train, yak or camel caravan and porters/koolies/sherpas?
I am not completely up to date so do you consider the Indian Army BoB?
-
How about mule train, yak or camel caravan and porters/koolies/sherpas? ?
that's OK, too, 10 models of porters/koolies/sherpas/mules/yaks/camels give 10 points.

army of British India is OK.
-
I'm looking forward to the future rounds although now I'm really looking forward to Round 10.

How about dogs? Are dogs OK? And sailors? ;-)

I think there are more possibilities than one might think:
- Japanese
- Maybe French and USMC from Wladiwostok
- Afghans (army of god), so turbans are okay
- Czech legion
- Mongols
- Tibetans
- Turks
- central powers ex-POWs
- Army of India
and of course Reds, Whites, Basnachis & Chinese

Aha! Thank you, Poliorketes :) :)
-

agree, forgot the Afghans :)
-
This is great! I have some unphoto'd Turks I was planning to use as filler for Round 7 or 8, so now I just bump them to Round 10 and get the bonus for them! Hooray!
-
Aaaargh! I've no models that will do at all! Have to whip up something next week once I have time to get to the shops...still no idea what to do for this entry...
-
Aaaargh! I've no models that will do at all!
Nor I. Never painted BoB before, but I've just placed an order for ******* from ****** (Keeping it secret.)
Just a thought for "Mike" and any others in a similar situation. If any members have unpainted BoB figures that they think they'll never paint, now might be a good time to put them up for sale or swap.
-
still no idea what to do for this entry...
May be this will help you Uncle Mike?

Some cool stuff there for sure! Those standard bearer guys are killer as are the cigar smokin' characters. I'd think somthing that doesn't have to be so historically acurate is the thing...I'm thinkin' more like crazy Mongols for me ...with a couple cammels...and possibly an armored car? Is this possible? ...I know it is possible what I mean is will it work out for 'maximum round 10 bonus points'? There will be (...possibly...) 1 Crazy Mongol Leader, 7 Crazy Mongol Lackeys, no less than 2 Cammels and 1 Armored Roles or somthing like that...
Will it be allowed? Am I totally out to lunch on the whole concept?... :?:

yes, it will, 10 single Models + an armoured car = 20 bonus points

Couldn't wait so I went down to the local lead store and grabbed a couple packs of High Adventure figs by Copplestone. Chinese officers and Dare To Die...good for a start now I need a car/train...
What about color for the Chinese Army stuff...I seem to remember it being forest green with red details...am I even close? Anyone have any good reference stuff? Thanx.

Thanx again Prof. Wanna paint 'em for me as well?

Visited a model shop and two toy shops, and the only trains remotely close to the 28mm scale were really horrendous. I considered doing a 2mm scale and an HO scale entry, but the latter would include my precious model trains which I do NOT allow myself to mess up, the former would be too small for this (although they're grand for Land Ironclads :) )
So - I could buy something online, or create a monstrosity which would be nowhere close to looking like a train (no bonus points, therefore) but which would be fun to design and build..... :)
I will have to think long and hard about this matter...
There, that's enough time thinking. And I've already found a few bits for the monstrosity :) AND I know what it should look like too.
-
Hmmm... luckily I have some unfinished Murch Brits somewhere, but I'll have to get me some more to meet the requirement of 10(!) minis... :o
-
Well, some more Murch Brits ordered... along with a big pile of personalities :D

Thanks. :)

I was doing the same thing. Its disappeared from his website :?

Ah, thanks VERY much Lt. Hazel. 8) 8)

Alex, I couldn't see any mentioning of a HMG team and how many points they would count for.
-
Alex, I couldn't see any mentioning of a HMG team and how many points they would count for.
HMG counts as infantry, X crew models + hmg = X+1 minis :). So for example you've got a HMG with three crewmen, thus you have 4 minis and you would need 6 minis more to get the bonus.
-
Is Mark re-tooling his RR? I have heard others say it was a little on the small side...
-
Painted my Train and the first 6 Figures now :D
Rest 4 figures will be painted tomorrow . lol

I'm lagging. Painted the basecoat and very few details of my - er - secret weapon for round 10; and I only have two troops half done.... :(
