As a Lovecraft fan, I have been meaning to get into Strange Aeons for a while. Lucky man that I am, my beautiful wife informed me that she has gotten me the Bundle of the Beast, Threshold Agents I, Fishemen I and a black Goat membership with the Deep One as a first anniversary present!
Being that I already have some cultists (http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2013/02/enochs-kin.html (http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2013/02/enochs-kin.html)) and some terrain (http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2012/11/temple-of-old-ones.html (http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2012/11/temple-of-old-ones.html)) I think I should have enough to start out.
My usual skirmish board is 3ftx3ft...will that be a good size to play on?
-
Hello and welcome!
I am not sure what all you get in those packs, but 3-4 agents, some cultists and random monsters should last you a long time. While game doesn't need many miniatures (less than 10 most of the time for me), collecting one of each profiles becomes quite a task, hehe.
I will make sure I take a more detailed look at your blog and will follow it - I am always eager to see what others do regarding to SA.
As for 3x3 table - games are played on 2x3 so its perfect!
-
Yeah...I should end up with 3 agents, 2 fishmen and a deep one from the packs. I already have the 5 cultists and tons of other figures that can be pressed into service. I have a couple of Warhammer Chaos spawn that are begging to terrify some agents, if I ever get them painted up.
And thanks for following the blog. There's not much on it for Lovecraft stuff yet, but I'm sure all of my future efforts will end up there.
-
I hardly seem to have a list with more than 3 agents in it, 4 if I equip them poorly! :D
I haven't seen rules for deep ones yet, 2 fishmen are more than enough, as are 5 cultists, imo. Besides, you can always proxy...majority of my fourth games in campaign involve flying nightmares lol
-
I was building a pirate ship yesterday and playing with some half painted pirates when I relaized how much funit would be to play pirates versus fishmen... the madness goes on!
-
Yeah, I'm no doubt going to have fun mashing up genres. I already have a little blue police box aimed at doing just that once I have the requisite figures...
-
Whatever it is that you decide to do: Welcome to the Cult!
:D
-
Got some tentacle beasts done up to tide me over until I get my SA swag.

Not sure what I can use them for yet? Ether beings for the resonator for certain I guess. Any regular Lurkers they might match?
-
Those are very nice and super paint job...
-
Very nice, could be used foe Formless Spawn (main rulebook) or better still with the egition of flutes/horns would make excellent Servitors (Shocking btales of Madness....3), in fact I am going to buy me some of those and build some musical instruments.
-
They look great, ImhotepMagi.
Very appropriate looking.

I would be tempted to go with elysium64's suggestion or mess around with existing profiles until you get something you want.
I have a couple of GW beasties that have been patiently waiting to be finished off for ages.
You have just provided the prompt I need.
:D
-
Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the nice words.
I will have to see what they could be when I can actually read the books. I don't mind playing with profiles a bit. :D
-
Could be Giant vermin! Swarms! Scrawny one!
In worst case scenario, I suggest just renaming one of the existing profiles! lol
When you erase "cultist" from cultist profile it could really be anything, if you know what I mean ;D
-
Those will do nicely as Ether Beings! Hopefully you find the game flexible enough that they can be used as multiple baddies. Welcome!
-
So yeah...this just happened...

My Bones just arrived! So much great stuff in this box, but I had to post this guy!
-
So, I finally got one of the good guys painted up. He's one of the new Reaper Bones figures. Meet agent Mike Francis!
He was a fun figure to paint and I can't wait to get more Threshold ladies and gents together to fight evil.

-
Oooh!
I like him.
:-*
He does look like a stereotypical Mexican bad guy from a Sergio Leone film, but certainly mad enough to be a hunter of eldritch evil.
8)
Nice work!
-
Yep he looks a little like Lee van Cleef. Is that deliberate!
With a hat like that he must be a Basket Case!
-
I'm sure that's probably what Reaper had in kind when it was sculpted. He was in my Bones package when it came and he looked like he would fit in.
-
I don't like the model's hat. It's riding too high. Either his head is too big for the hat, or it shrunk in the wash! :)
I have the same model and I considered giving him a lobotomy and then attaching the hat lower.
-
Honestly, you don't really see it in general use. That angle does it no favors, but it was the only way to get a shot of the face. The hat covers everything most of the time.
-
I got bored and decided to write up some inspirational fiction:
http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2013/07/moonshine.html (http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2013/07/moonshine.html)
Tell me what you think! Comments/critique welcome.

It's been a couple weeks since I've posted, but I've been busy:
I got my SA stuff finally and knocked out the fishmen as quickly as possible. I also worked up this badboy:
Full of tentacled goodness! More info and pics of both on the blog:

-
Nice work, ImhotepMagi.
I really like the Horror, it certainly seems just about right to me.
:-*
Not get those Threshold Agents painted up.
These beasties need controlling.
;)
-
Great work on those beasties. The Fishmen look quite creepy... I will have to grab some of those next time I get to do an order.
-
Nice work! I like how you used the GW spawn for another game.
-
In response to your blog post:
I've bought a LOT of SA miniatures to support Mike and Co., as well as all published rules and whatnot, but I'm kind of with you at this point: the models will need better quality casting (even if the sculpture quality remains the same) for me to break my wallet out. I'm OK with the middling sculpts, although some are indeed spectacular, but the fact that my "Flying Polyp" has a bad casting misalignment, as do some of the Zombies that I bought, I really just don't want to drop money on them anymore.
If a 2nd Ed SA rulebook came out with everything in it, I'd still buy it knowing I had already bought it all once, but the models...I'd really rather buy Murch or Copplestone for the humans and RAFM for the inhumans. Money/Value proposition always gets in the way for me these days.
-
My cultists have gotten a new plaything (and bases):
Officially for my dungeon adventures but it will definitely see use in SA once I start playing. Still working on the agents and am having painter's block with them.
Anyway, more pictures and painted pieces on the blog:

EDIT: The Bag of Cthulhu has an never-ending supply of uses:

-
Nice work, sir.
Perfect for all aspiring cults!

Ah Hirst Arts, how I love thee. Really nice looking dungeon and altar you have there.
When I started building my Hirst walls, I found the stones lined up a bit more smoothly if you stagger the blocks so that they interlock at the corners and joints between runs. It also makes it more robust and less likely to fall over :)
-
Ah Hirst Arts, how I love thee.
Actually, the dungeon itself is made up of pre-cast pieces from Dungeonstone: http://www.dungeonstone.com/
So it is made up of chunks that can be mixed and matched for different set ups. What you are seeing is where the pieces meet up.
I love them. They are reasonably priced and pretty durable. And great for me because I don't have the patience for screwing around with plaster/resin.
-
Wow, the Basic set is cheaper than buying the two rubber molds from Hirst! :o

I know, right? Good if you're not anticipating making more than that anyway. And they mix with Hirst stuff pretty nicely if you want to tinker with things or add accessories. They even have a cavern set coming in the future.

My full Threshold team is finally ready for the table!

These lads and lass look great, sir.
A very nice and cohesive team.
:-* :-*
I like the background for each of the agents too.

Very nice team!! I like the fishmen and the tentacled creature too!!
-
Wicked. Here's to avoiding stuff like ballistophobia...
-
It's been a while since I posted, but I've added a new figure to my repetoire of investigators. And he just happens to be a doctor...
He may make a great specialist agent to hire on for a few games!

lol
It had to happen, sooner or later.
Nice work, mate.
Love the Converse.

A little bit more fiction on my blog for inspiration. Hope you all enjoy!

I painted up some grave markers and zombies to threaten my Threshold agents with:

Thanks for the kind words, gents!
Honestly I run in cycles, so I'm back to SA for a while. After all this time my Threshold team has only seen 2 games. My goal is to get a 3rd in and actually document it before I move on to something else again. :D
-
It's been a while since I posted, but I figured I'd share the mummy I painted up today:
He'll be good to lead a death cult or two!
A little more of a write-up here: http://deepdarkdungeons.blogspot.com/2014/05/happy-mum-orial-day.html

Nice Mummy!
-
Yummy-Mummy!
:-*
And welcome back to the Dark Path.
:D
-
Thanks! I always wander back to the Dark Path eventually. I just sometimes get distracted by shiny things in the bushes along the way.
-
Hello folks, it's been forever! I know this is threadomancy, but as it's my thread, I hope it is ok! I haven't painted much in a Cthulhu vein in a long time but I snagged this Reaper Bones idol and I had to get the brushes on it right away!
(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1730/42787226511_c9c6905071.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/28bXHKV)
And it got some proper worship right away!

A very fitting resurrection of a classic thread! I love it. :-* :-* :-*
-
Fantastic! I don't even play Cthulhu but I had to get one and paint it up right away
