Which war?

(There is an Osprey book that covers both, but only has one Great War colour plate the rest are all for the Second War, or so I am told.)

Or get the DVD of Das Boot! (That is the first DVD I ever owned)

I've got a picture somewhere showing a whole U-boat crew kitted out in British Battledress, captured in France in 1940. Anything goes really, lot of private purchase, knitted by mother type shirts, jumpers and scarves. The wet weather gear was grey leather. IIRC the Revell 1/72 Uboat crew has some illustrations of dres varieties on it's box.

I did all my interwar German pirate Uboote crew in black leather work clothes. Those bad weather work clothes came in sea gre y during WWII.

There are plenty of examples of this. The ones I have seen are khaki overalls (of that redish-green khaki the limeys used).

Grimm, there are several instances of various German troop types using captured uniforms. Italian camo is probably the most well known, Russian snow boots another. Apparently some stock of this khaki overalls was captured at Dunkirk and used by the sub crews when changing oil or cleaning the privy.

Readily available, probably quite convenient wear in a sub and nobody really cared how folk dressed. Making good use of captured stocks. Less useful for army or airforce personnel to use for obvious reasons.

its hard to say german u-boat uniform,I mean they went out to sea clean shaven all them had close to the same uniform. Then they came back with full beards and mix uniforms. And every u-boat captain had his own style of uniform.A u-boat crew would be intresting to paint.
