I've started a death star surface to play star wars: x-wing

For the matérial:
base: styrodur
death star relief: dépron 5mm and 1/4 inch flat hirst art pieces
trench: hirst art science fi pieces, hirst art pipe, stryrodur, dépron... everything i find
Turrets:
body: dépron
head: stryrodur
barrel: bamboo stick with a square of dépron.
The rules to play the trench run ("death star trench run singapore" that can be uploaded in BGG), give a special movement in the trench; you do not need the template, all the fighters move on slots, and it overules the normal movement.
If you look at the picture, you can see the slots (3 in a raw, near the turret, each realized by a square. A square is exactly the ship's base size. Then, i can overload the rest of the trench (floor and walls).
Ive made a small vidéo, just for fun

At the start, on the left corner, you can see an aérograph paint test.
I will show you the progress.

Looks fantastic. How are you planning to deal with the two-dimensional aspect of the game? With that trench there it looks like it would be awesome to have the third dimension play a role in maneuverability...
Thanks

That looks amazing!
I've been toying with the 3D terrain idea myself, mainly thinking hills and cliffs of Tatooine and other planet surfaces to simulate the excellent PC game "Rogue Squadron" from back in the days, but the 2D rules make it very difficult.

Thanks :)
Ive made the map in relation to the spécial rules "death star trench run singapore" on BGG.
As i say previously, normal movement rules are played on the surface (you use a plexiglass plate to fly above the trench).
When you're above, you select a blank on the dial, and so you get down in the trench.
Thereafter, movement are on slot toward the port exhaust; any template are used.

For an other way (not the death star attack), i've been thinking about using the height rules of the dogfight book "Check your 6".
From now on, it is no more current events ::)

Agreed 2D poses no real issue. We have plans for a three level game at some stage, the rules also easily allow for ground based action as well as atmospheric and orbital combat.
-
Cool stuff, I just wonder how well the game rules really adapt to that particular scenario. Great looking start!
-
Wow!
Mike, use the.... camera, to make more pictures! I want a better perspective of that beauty!

The ruleset is an updated version of the old Wings of War rules with bits of Aeronautica thrown in....
Works well and does adapt to all sorts of things... even ground warfare.... seems odd to say, but works surprisingly well for tank battles! ( when i say tank, I actually mean AT-AT's... )

:o :o
Stunning!
Looking forward to seeing this progress.
It looks great so far.

Good God!!! You can't look at Lead Adventure Forum without getting discouraged lately. Where in hell are all these fantastic terrain projects coming from this week? My buddy Mike and I worked on a Death Star set and it took us weeks of careful work to get it together. I was really pleased with it too. Then along comes you sir, making terrain that you could shoot a movie on. Did it actually take only three days to get to this point, or are you parceling out the progress in photos? I absolutely love this, and I'm jealous as a.. a.. a thing that gets really jealous.
Makes me want to go back to dry-erase matts for all my gaming.

Always appreciate an ambitious project that is well-executed!

Super job, well done that man! And those HA parts really fit well with the surroundings, never would have thought of that in this scale.
I might try something similar with my tiny stub-fighters, what was it 1:2250? ;D
-
This looks awesome! I cannot wait to se it painted.
One question though, can you balance the models on all those pipes and other detail?
-
:o :o :o :o That is cool as f@*k!
-
This is too good to be true!
You could hang this on a wall as a pure piece of art!!!
-
Wow :o
-
With some simple CGI you basically have all the same pieces as the original film makers.... lol
-
What is CGI ???

What is CGI ???
Computer-generated imagery.....or Episodes 1-3, in other words.

Jeez, Bibbles, ::) get your references right. Wrong Death Star! And I thought you were a Star Wars buff. lol
This is why I'm the King!
Now, Mad Mike, serious question time.
When are you going to do the exposed superstructure version with the interior chase from ROTJ?
-
Very impressive 8) :-* 8)
Now make a super stardestroyer crashing into it :D

James
No no! You've got it ALL wrong......it's the rest of the Death Star he needs to build!!! ;)

Stunning work!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
It may be have 445 meters in diameter to be in the scale. My house is too small.
@Damas: don't give me a new giant project :-I, That can put my marriage in danger ;) lol
-
Really fantastic Work! 8) 8) 8) :-*
I just ordered the X-Wing starter, an extra X-Wing, a Tie Advanced, a Tie Interceptor, a Y-Wing, and an A-Wing to get stuck in (my flgs also has Slave-1 and the Falcon, but I have to restrain myself a bit ;D ).
-
Anybody else enjoying the realization that this is how they did the first actual death star? I mean it was of course larger, etc. But with some work this'll look just as good as the actual one from film...so we demand some iPhone Star Wars footage when you're done - flying through the trench! lol
-
I was not able to wait to have ended ;D
So, i've already made this, just for fun :D:
