Post by: cheetor on July 05, 2013, 11:58:22 AM
In part at least.  Its a "partnership" apparently.

(also, Im not sure that this is the right part of the forum for news like this or not, so sorry of its in the wrong place.)

Warlord and Mongoose announce Judge Dredd partnership!
We are delighted to announce an agreement between these two progressive games companies that will see Warlord Games exclusively manufacture and distribute Mongoose Publishing’s Judge Dredd miniatures game.

Managing Director of Mongoose Publishing, Matthew Sprange, “This is a great step for the Judge Dredd miniatures game as we believe Warlord is the premier miniatures company and we have always been huge fans of their work. We have known the chaps working there for many years and look forward to working closely within them for many more.”

Paul Sawyer of Warlord Games: “We are very excited to be working with our old friend Matt on taking the Judge Dredd game to a wider audience . Many of us at Warlord are rabid Dredd and 2000AD fans and are looking forward to helping build on the solid platform built by the Mongoose team”.

Plans are already well underway for the range to be reorganised and repackaged as well as having a welter of new releases added. There are already plans for a hardback rulebook amongst other new additions. For more information about the Judge Dredd line or either company check out their websites:

Having pledged at the Council of Judges level a while ago ( well..you have to get it all don't you :)  ) I'm watching this with great interest, especially since the releases we pledged for seem to have ground to a halt. I see the promised Manta, Mechisimo and Ultimate Lawbreakers have been given shiny new paintjobs but as yet no sure dates for the Backers.

Mongoose is one of those company's you want to believe in and so far they have held true to the amount of releases they promised, yet...something starts to niggle in your stomach when you read this.

Could it be i simply want to see the stuff i pledged for, of course, but then like most Kickstarter backers these days i tend to think I'm a patient man ( coughs...sedition wars...still waiting on next wave..coughs )

So again its back to fingers crossed to hope to see the rest of the things that we as backers were supposed to have helped get off the ground like the Biker gangs, Vehicles etc etc..

Please please Mongoose, don't prove that all our trust in you has been misguided.

Here's hoping...

Well, this will be the second time in eight years. Not sure I would call that excessive...

Please please Mongoose, don't prove that all our trust in you has been misguided.

We got your back - this was one of the things we have been working towards. KS update coming out a little later today explaining what all this means - it is all good.

Nottingham will soon sink with the weight of all that accumulate lead.........

It does kinda seem that way...

MC1 themed plastic sets would be great.  Its not like I need any more Dredd stuff at this stage of course, but decent plastic gangers (that had options to be assembled as citizens especially) would be great.

Plastic lawmasters would surely sell well, as would a good set of plastic judges.  From what I hear Warlord are good at that sort of thing too.

The only thing that bothers me about this so far is that I got a hardback copy of the JDMG rulebook in the post last week as part of my Kickstarter pledge.  It appears that book is redundant already due to a combined JDMG/Block War book coming out.  As I am due the hardback Block War too I am hoping that we get the combined book instead, as the Mongoose Block War book will be out of date before release it appears.

Still, despite some delays (and a lot of companies are victims of their own Kickstarter successes in that way) Mongoose have been true to their word with my Sector Chief + pledge, so I am not going to worry just yet.

What's the betting they re-sculpt all the figures with less than amazing replacements?

As well as also waiting for the rest of my jd pledge I hope this will also give a kick to the Rogue trooper kickstarter too.

My only fear, and it isn't a huge fear at this point, is the scales will change with the new manufacturer. I've already got two different scales with Judge Dredd, Mongoose and Citadel. They don't mix at all. What I don't need is more minis that fall somewhere in the middle. What I need even less are minis that are bigger then the Mongoose ones. If they get any bigger I can start building a statue park for my Citadel scale JD project.

It's interesting how people are getting their terminology mixed up...

'Manufacture' and 'Design' are two very different things. Designs might be ADDED to the range, but manufacture and distribution will come from Warlord.

I think it's good news, hopefully we will see a marked improvement in quality, which can only be a good thing.

The Mongoose figures look really good, but possibly a bit limited? ... or is that the point of the KS project.

Still £100 for a manta prowl tank? Is it remote control?

I'd love to see more miniatures of the quality done for the Frothers Charity thingy, that Judge Minty model is totally class.

Minty was sculpted by Kev White (of Hasslefree).

I was very lucky that Kev agreed to sculpt the Assault troopers for my space opera type project, as he is a great sculptor and a decent bloke to boot.

Saw Warlord at Bovington today and raised the question.  Feedback is that currently this is simply a production partnership. Bit given their success with multi-part plastic kits prehaps sone of what's missing from the range might be easier to develop.

Wasn't 100% sure if it was Kev, yeah he is great.

Yeah from the announcement I had a feeling it was just going to be production. Sure enough though can't hurt to have closer ties between these companies. I'm not that knowledgable about Warlord's plastics but the handful of metal minis I've bought from them have been pretty nice.

Nope.  Reissued metals.

It is a considerable price hike, looks to be 20%+ for boxes and 25%+ for individuals. Then again, I'm not sure if £3.75 for a metal mini (that's what it comes to in the new Justice Department box) is all that bad these days -- people are paying something like £2.40 or more for plastics after all.

That's double what I think a metal mini is worth.

Guess I've been away from GW too long, and enjoying the value holiday in historicals.

I was very keen on this when it was announced, I'm completely out now. Except that I might get more from Foundry instead!

Considering Mongoose raised prices a while ago - a second jump so soon is really not "customer friendly".

And while £30 for an 8 miniature set is fine IMHO, I think £5 for a single miniature is taking the p**s - that pricing structure might kill it.

Someone "over there" mentioned the box sets pricewise are the same as was recently at Mongoose, so it looks like no double-rise. Still, very expensive in the boxes, and you're right - obscene individually!  :o

The Mongoose sets went up to £27.99 from £24.99 - when the singles went up.

So that is a substantial double rise! Cheeky.

Doesn't matter now. I've been spoiled by the affordability of historicals, so as these are causing a bit of upchuck to rise when I look at the price, I won't do a Dredd thing - unless I get some for Christmas!  lol

I've got a lot already - and this has cheesed me off no end.

As its going to cost silly money for the Singles to fill in my gaps.

Ouch!

Hopefully not too many to pick up.

The great news is that there will be a continuation of the line, with a new rulebook, and quality support. And maybe Warlord will be able to produce other Mongoose things, like... the Paranoia! figures?  :-*

Not many (thankfully) - I don't like using proxies personally, at the very least I have to have a conversion.

So...we were promised as Kickstarters to see our releases before they go on general release ? and what do i just get ? a email from Warlord advertising the sale of Sabbat and Kenny Who..both I'm still waiting for...mind you the list of what I'm waiting for is increasing as after my judges of the world came that seems to be it...

disappointing to say the least
Title: Re: Judge Dredd Miniatures Game moves to Warlord Games

I really don't see a huge jump in prices compared to the Warlord vs Mongoose pricing...The Judge set was $45, Warlord has for $48. Most single figs are $8 at Warlord, $7.50 on Mongoose site. The Robot set went up $8 but also has a unique figure now in that set. (mind you I am in the US and selected the US pricing)....

A hell of a better deal than what GW would charge...they charge at least $20 now for a single flipping figure, other kits even more....besides it is a skirmish game so you don't need that much....the only major setback I could see is for collectors, even then, just buy slowly and you should be fine.

I would also like to add that Mongoose charges only a flat $8 shipping, Warlord usually does not charge shipping (or at least of late)....so the postage costs works out...on the plus side I can grab some Bolt Action stuff at the same time as Judge Dredd making it a double deal.
