Title: Various Fantasy Warbands for Skirmish Games
Post by: Torben on July 22, 2013, 05:36:33 PM
Well, seeing as Dijit/Duncan have been at it with posting some updates about his fantasy warbands I figured I should add in my own as well.

This is my, for now, complete undead warband for generic fantasy skirmishes; for Rosetta I intend to add some death knights or maybe some dark-skinned elves to the mixture as well. Further Flesh-Eaters from Celtos are most definitely on the "to purchase"-list for this force.

And this is the start of my "civilized city state" paintscheme; going to add some orcs, elves and normal humans to this group in the near future - as soon as I manage to locate some nice shields for them to use!

Cheers

Very nice Torben! I've got goblins sitting on the dinning room table up here slowly getting painted.

I finished up another warband (or partly finished) for Rosetta today:

It was meant to be painted for a Danish "competition" wherein we were to paint up a small Chaos Warband and then play some battles. Well, here's the warband (plus some orcs that are added in all other settings but this GW-ho-hum) in all it's painted glory!

OOH! VERY NICE WORK! All the War Bands look TERRIFIC...GREAT brushwork & miniature choices. The War Bands seem to be of a fine, manageable size..."army" size games give me a terminal case of the Deep Purple Horrors of late.

I really like your warbands, especially the green/white priest type.

It's something the two of us are slowly working on, the pretext is old school style with modern mechanics. Rosetta comes out of us finding few rule sets that allow us to use whatever minis we have lying around, at warband sizes 15-30 minis, and with simple, yet solid rules.

I like the name and the concept. Particularly the bit about rules written to be solid instead of being written to market specific minis.

Any publication plans?

Just wanted to say that project isn't dead - far from it, it has now been revived into a Mark II and work is slowly progressing. So yes, there's plans for a publication and I'm hoping to have it finished this year, if real life wills it as well :)

Oh and to show that project is far from dead...

I'll try and update this post whenever possible, but otherwise I'd encourage those who're really interested to pop by my blog: Scatterbrained Wargamer (http://www.scatterbrainedwargamer.blogspot.com)

(I know the colours in the photos are a bit off, still working on how to use my new, homemade, backdrop :))

So, last time around I showed you a knight and his squire. Now he's gotten a bit of gold, a bit of wear and tear and has started an adventure into Mordheim! So here he is together with his warband:

... and there they might run into this recently painted classic:

mm, yess. This is good stuff. I need to battle this guy at some point.

I like the little narrative around the knight and squire - something I try to do myself as well: It is a lot o ffun visualising the little guys as characters.

I just took a couple of photos more for my various warbands - this time around its all about my slowly expanding Desert Empire which primarily consists of Celtos Elves with a diverse gathering of other miniatures and races all unified by the same theme.

To start it all off, here's my Wizard of the Water Dragon.

A rogue Necromancer.

And the first of many warriors for the Desert Empire.

And a single Palace Guard.

And while I was at it, I figured I'd snap a quick shot of one of the many mercenaries that can be found in the setting:

An elven Gladiator who has turned to mercenary work.

@Affun:
I always try to create some form of narrative around my miniatures; especially when I'm painting these sort of skirmish style warbands. It adds a lot to the game when playing - even if it's only in my head. I might even start giving them names at some point!

And sure thing - we need to get in a battle at some point; possibly at Horisont? :)

Sounds fine to me.  :D Ill look at the collection and figure out a warband.

The elves look nice as well - I like the idea of desert elves: Pretty cool and different. I've been meaning to get som eCeltos miniatures to paint for quite a bit, but there always seem to be something else that I have to get first.

Love the fleshtones on those desert folk! And love the sacred aqua color of their garb.

Please, where is that rogue necromancer from? He is very cool.

OUTSTANDING STUFF! The mix of various mini maker's wares along with some SPLENDID brushwork gives your War Bands character, each with its own WONDERFULLY unique look. VERY WELL DONE!
