Post by: Ramshackle_Curtis on July 23, 2013, 09:35:34 AM
I just put up a new Kickstarter project, the Brothers of Iron. Its to make soldiers and an armoured transport for them. The stretch goals are to do support and heavy weapons teams.

THe project is only running for 2 weeks, until the 6th of August, so please check it out.

Cheers

Thanks for the information and update. The news will be posted on my blog  ;) Hopefully I can convince some other backers as I would like to see the heavy weapons as in the blueprint on the left.

I totally agree on the seeing the models front. Im surprised its done so well with no models to show so far. I have nearly completed the APC and am working on the figures, so will post some images as it gets done.

It's got rhino written all over it but it's not a bad model.

Good looking stuff.

I don't think it looks like a Rhino but that is just another opinion (if you want a GW comparison it is more a cross between a Leman Russ and a cut down Chimera).

I quite like the design apart from the doors on the side. My question would be, how do you get through the doors with the tracks running through them? I don't think the doors are necessary... you have good sized rear doors and hatches on the roof for access/egress.

Getting rid of the side doors would also take the design further away from the Rhino comparison.

THe doors open into storage spaces for putting hoses and stuff in. THe slit is so you can look in from the outside.

Yeah, that's my exact impression also.

Taking it as a given that the general style is similar to the 40K retro-WWI-in-space aethetic, I prefer the looks of this to the GW APCs (either the Rhino or Chimera). It's quite a sharp model, IMO.

If I can summon up some spare cash somewhere, I may well get in this KS.

I like the kit - it does have a lot of GW-esque design bits...but then GW just copied a bunch of WW1/WW2 stuff, so who cares.

I do think the side door should be re-shaped so it represents an actual tool box (though I'm not sure where you'd fit tools inside the track system...I agree that part has me baffled, and it doesn't make a bunch of sense.

The model looks beautifully cast though.

Resin for vehicles would be good.  Waiting to see more.

Resin for troopers seems very unlikely to attract my $$$.

Waiting to see what shows up in green/render/picture form before thinking of any money being committed.

Gracias,

I'm in.
Smaller Kickstarters like this, with a low funding target and a realistic product return for your investment are my favourites. For less than the price of, say, a single GW tank, I can get a tank and twenty troops. That's a nice, neat bundle I can look forward to.
I'd pledge to something like this once a month if it caught my interest.

Silly question, bit as these are 28mm, and your doing so well, would there be any chance of a shrink do to 15mm - I think they'd sell like hotcakes. Don't know it you CAD designed them, but if so  (many happy thoughts follow)

Crazily enough, I could see myself rebuying them in 15mm as well...

Its all real world mastered stuff Im afriad. I have been learning some CAD but not good enough for production yet! Plus it just add a whole load to the process. Glue, plasticard, a knife and a shed is all I need!

:o I like it a lot. Don't know what I'd use it for but I'll be able to think of something. Got a pic with a 28mm fig stood next to it?

I will have photos on wednesday. The models are 3 part, the body, guns with hands and heads.

I still have not made the head moulds. I have been casting out multiples so I can do a sprue of heads. I finished casting them today, so will get the moulds made tomorrow.

I am reticent to release any images without the heads on! Hence why wednesday.

I dont tend to show master sculpts, I prefer to show the final product. The sculpts always look messy: different colours of materials and putties etc.

So these are resin casts of the figures. The one standing up straight measures 29 mm to the top of the crest on his helmet, so they are true 28mm figures. The models are shown with the "Iron Brother" heads.

Please note that the image contains a scale shot with a Games Workshop Cadian Imperial Guard. This image is for scale purpose only and is used without authorisation from Games Workshop Ltd.

The models come as three parts: body, head and gun with hands attached.

The penultimate row shows the Weapons Specialists, left to right Plasma Blaster, Flame Thrower and Thermal Gun. It also shows an unfinished "work in production" image of the Squad Leader. He will have a choice of two guns.

Here are some images of the heavy weapons troopers. The carriage weapon is a resin cast but the soldiers are all still unfinished "work in production". They are shown with a selection of heads from the range.

The top row shows the version with integral gunner. The carriage guns come with all four barrels shown.

The bottom row shows the mortar and missile launcher options.

All the weapons will be supplied with a selection of 2 appropriate crew each.

Here are two images of the wheeled Rhebok. I will have a plough and hatch as turret alternative ready for the end of the project.

Really nice infantry. Those heavy weapons are ridiculously huuuge (in a good way). Like the wheeled variant of the APC too. Very unique.  :D

Curtis, love the alternate versions, some really nice detailing. I really want the wheeled version now, will that be made available as an option to those of us just pledging for a single Rhebok, or am I better withdrawing for your kickstarter and buying it (I presume at a slightly higher price) later from your shop? Cheers.

The only part not available in singles is the longer back. You can choose any mix of the other bits to suit your fancy.

Tracks for 2 and wheels for 1.
2 Standard backs and 1 chem tank back.

The other bits you get 3 of each anyway, so you can fiddle until your content!

I dont think the long back works as well. Its just too long to fit with the tracks. I made it first but rejected it after I had the thing assembled. I was unhappy with how it looked, and it pushed the postage weight up into the next price band, so it went!

Dont let me sway you though.....

This is the first Kickstarter I received the goods for - it was on in July, and I have everything here in September. Brilliant  8) 8) 8)

I did go for the 3 Rheboks, as indicated above, and they landed at my doorstep here in Malta at seven in the morning. Very safely packaged; after removing the padding it's really splendid to not that in spite of the very good protection, the box they came in is still very full of stuff! There's the three hull parts, three cabin parts, one wheelbase and 2 sets of caterpillar tracks (my choice of parts as this was optional) and no less than fourteen bags of bits! And the first impression is they're excellent quality, without any sign of defects. Hope to find some time over the weekend (good timing, by the way) to start assembling these.

Thanks Mr Curtis!

Hey, no problem. Still got a long way to go though, Im about half through, and had to order more silicone to make more moulds as they are buring out. The tracks especially, they go pretty quickly....
