Title: Boomville 2.0 (Shop, Jail, Hotel, Town Hall & Casino 0.5)
Post by: geboom on August 13, 2013, 10:32:22 AM

Boomville 2.0

After selling my unfinished wild west town “Boomville” I left the wild west theme.
But when I got my hands on “Dead Man’s Hand” rule set and some gorgeous “Black Scorpion” miniatures I started building on “Boomville 2.0”

The Store:

First straight forward building (looks quite like a shoebox).
The idea is to build houses where you can move your figures in/out/around and over.

For better access I lowered the inner walls as well as the doors.

I used Balsa wood and Styrodur. A thin strip of styrodur is coverd with balsa sheets on both sides.
In this way I get walls of about 6 mm thick that are solid enough to work with.

The floors / roof are thin sheets of styrodur and the roof is covered with paper napkins that are brushed on using a mixture of water and wood glue.

Not sure if and how to paint the building but I am open for ideas.
Not sure if I should use acrylic paints or inks on this building. If you have a good suggestion please let me know.

The Jail:

Boomville is a violent place so we have to lock the bad guys up. Let’s build a jail!

For the stone section on this building I used Styrodur. Cut from a single block of foam and textured it with a pencil.
In this project toothpicks come in handy when it comes to iron bars.

I try to make the buildings a-symmetrical what prevent them from looking dull.
Aiming for an interesting layout with a good level of playability.

Again I used the cut down walls for the interior.

All doors operate. It’s nothing more than a Toothpick that is glued on to the door and that sticks into the floor and into a small block of wood just above the door.

Working with balsa & foam is quite easy, fast and fun. So now I got the hang of it lets scale up and go for a slightly larger building.......

The Hotel:

Now all these outlaws need some place to stay so its obvious that we have a "Hotel" in "Boomville".
A slightly larger project although it is still a small hotel.

While building the Hotel I still focus on playability. In this case the hotel is more than a hotel.
You can move around the building in several ways so there is always a way out when things get too dangerous.

The water tank on the roof is a toilet paper roll and you could hide a miniature underneath.
Come to think of it, need to make one with a door in it!
Added 2 ladders on the roof, they might come in handy.
The stairway to the roof is split in 2 levels.
Like to make stairs this way so miniatures can actually stand on the stairs and just peek over the edge of the roof.
Another new feature is the hatch. It actually opens and is also a great way to create possible movement in a building.

The building split up in three layers.

The ground floor has a reception with rooms on both sides.
Both rooms have a back door and behind the reception they are linked with double doors.

The counter gives good cover.

There are three rooms on the second floor, each with a door to the balkony and all the rooms are connected by doors as well.
In the room on the left is a ladder that goes to the hatch on the roof.

The Hotel is slightly larger than the jail.

Town Hall:

I started with the idea of making a “Bank” but I ended up with a “Town Hall”.
I wanted to make a larger wood construction on a stone base with a more classic look.
Working with higher ceilings and windows and a nice stairway up front.

Although the building is actually a big square box, I tried to make it more interesting with the walls
on both sides and rear sticking out a bit (the middle section) and by adding irregular structures at roof section.

All the parts of the Town Hall.

The ground floor has a big massive entrance and a large hall with oversized staircase.
Since the walls in this project are higher than normal buildings I added small windows over the doorways. Looks quite elegant I think.

The curved balcony makes the interior look more classy. The room at the back has again a lowered wall for better access.
I could not do this on the ground floor due to the large stairway.
The stairway that goes to the second floor is again split in 2 sections.

The top floor is a single room. From this floor you can look all the way down.
Since I like the idea of looking down from the first floor to the entrance I decided to connect the top floor with the lower levels as well.
For this I added a kind of glass roof or dome at the center of the room.
You can actually see the front door and stairway when you look through there and it makes the inside much lighter.
A little ladder leads up to the hatch/roof.

Building the roof section was a lot of fun.
The triangular shape of the façade was an obvious decision and adding another glass roof was already on my mind at the moment I made the one at the lower level.
I also added the hatch which I intend to use more often in future buildings.

The roof of the stairway is a natural stairs to the roof itself. I decided to make a kind of rectangular grid on the slope instead of an actual stairway.

After building the lower water tower the project was finished but when I looked at it from the front I missed the “Oh Yeah” effect.
I decided to make a second water tower on an elevated area. Once I got the idea I immediately knew where to place it and how to build it.
An elevation that goes over the walkway that leads up to the roof in a way that you can walk underneath.
And yes we have a ladder so you can climb even higher.

The final update will be one that is again bigger. Not a bit bigger, a lot bigger!
The first picture I took from that project is the one below. You may guess what it will be….

The final building of this first series is the Casino.

Since I am still building this idiotic big building I want to annoy you with some pictures of the work I’ve done so far.
I'm working on the roof section at the moment and this takes a lot longer than expected.

How does a casino/theatre look like?
For me it must have a big open area inside surrounded by a balcony or walkway with a big bar and some rooms for the ladies and their customers.
Maybe a stage, a storage room and some rooms for gambling.

Most important it has to be accessible, playable and extremely diverse with lots of movement options. With this in mind I started this project.

Now the floor plan is there I can start building walls. Inspired by wall structure of the Atlantic Cable Mine I made my first wall test piece.
http://www.wildwestmodels.com/Atlantic-Cable-Mine.html  (http://www.wildwestmodels.com/Atlantic-Cable-Mine.html)

The wall is made of a thin strip of Styrodur with balsa sheets glued on both sides.
This makes the wall solid enough to build with. Another great advantage is that I can stick toothpicks in the wall so I can lock the elements in position.

Before assembling the ground floor I decided to remake the base on which the walls are glued.
The reason of using a thicker base is that I want to add a lower floor area in the casino.

All the wall parts are pinned down on the sheet of styrodur. Once all the parts are done and approved I glue all the wall elements in one session on to the base.

Positioning the lower floor part requires some spatial awareness.
Since I do not work with a drawn out plan I need to determine its location thinking about how the interior on the higher levels will look like.
Around this lower floor part I picture walkways from which people can look down on the floor and on the stage.
Adding steps all around this lower floor makes it more interesting.

The casino starts to look like a real entertainment centre.
I actually manage to get a small stage in there as well.
Some of these elements are very important in a project because they determine how to build on from there.
They already help me to visualize the first floor an I even have some ideas about a future roof already.

Also started to add the walkways outside the building and all the windows at this level are done as well.
Now we are looking at the ground level of the casino with a large front door and 2 smaller exit doors at the back (need to make a row of outhouses behind those doors).
I imagine a big bar at the rear right with a small storage room top right. We have a back stage room as well at the right and at the left 2 large rooms for gambling.

Start of the first floor. I glued a wooden frame along the edges of the styrodur floor.
This prevents it from bending too much. Once all the wall elements are in place it is strong enough to handle.
Once the floor is in its place I started to draw the rooms on it. At the top right I will make a stairway up to the second level.

A little jump in time. Just for the record, at this stage the project is exactly 2 weeks on its way.
The walls and floors on the first floor are all in place. Between the 4 rooms on the left you'll see the lowered wall sections again.
A brought stairway is leading up to the first floor at the back and the first parts of the balcony (or outside walkway) are glued on as well as the first support beams underneath. There will be a whole series of them on the inside as well.

===

Time for another update.

All the windows on the first floor are done and the walkway, it goes ¾ around the building, is done as well.

There are 33 support beams at this level and I have to repeat that going up. The stairs is separate so can be placed to your liking.

Ground and first floor assembled. At the left there is the back stage area. Here the roof already start at the first floor.
Once the building is finished you can remove the roof parts to look inside. I plan to do this also above the rear entrance.

At the front, the Casino needs to look high, tall, impressive an symmetrical (more or less).
At the rear I want the building to be more irregular with lots of interesting movement options.

The floor of the second floor is laid. Still have to cut out the center but first I plan all the in and outside walkways and again some small rooms.

A little jump in time. The floor plan of the second floor is cut and along the edges I glued wooden beams.
All the wall elements are roughly there and are temporarily stuck to the floor wit toothpicks.
Setting this level up means that I can check my ideas and plan what to do next.
Always thinking ahead because I can already roughly visualize the roof section on top.

Planning on working towards a smaller surface while going up I start adding sloped walls for future roof sections.
Front left, at the second floor, I have a surface wide enough to make another stairway that goes up to the roof.
(Start to love this side of the project  more and more) ((strange, I actually start to like specific parts of the projects more then other parts.
Guess I sniffed too much glue.))

With the second floor fully assembled I can start adding the support beams on the first floor.

Hurrah! The rough guys are celebrating the new roof above the rear entrance of the casino.
This part (roof/stair section) can be removed so you can look inside.
On this building I will use the same technique when it comes to roofs. Paper napkins brushed on with water and wood glue.

The roof sections above the backstage area are done as well.
The roof section on top of the stairway at the right is getting shape as well.
That flat surface over there asks for being accessible.....

I do not have decent pictures from the inside at this point but in this picture you can see a small part of the support beams and railing.

Another feature that I did not point out yet is at the lower right in this picture.
At the right, underneath the stairway is the storage room.
Outside I made a ramp/slope to roll barrels up or down to the back door of the storage room just around the corner.

The final picture for now. All the walkways on the first and second floor are finished.
With the roof section roughly in place I can start adding the support beams at the inside of the second floor as well.

The big square opening will be a glass roof section.
It will be lifted up a bit first and around it I plan on making some kind of walkway.
At the left we have an open area that asks for some kind of structure still.
I am thinking of adding a small hut for the genetor up there and some water tanks.
I even think about some kind of wind mill on roof of this possible hut.

Since this is almost the point where I am at the moment, building this structure, you may feed me on ideas about the roof.

===

The roof is a lot more work then expected. It's a challenge to build this part in a way that it fits wel without bending or warping.
This is why progress got slowed down quite a bit.
I dit however made progress and I hope to finish the Casino within the next 2 weeks tops.

While the roof is drying I made a bar. Just a test piece but it looks o.k. although I had another form in mind.
Might change this one for another model.

The roof is fully there. Need to decide if I want to add this little building on top still.
If so then this will be positioned at the right somewhere half over the sloped area of the roof.
Then I want at least one water tank up there as well and a hatch.

The big see-through roof part is also getting its basic shape.

In this next picture you can see a good deal of the interior.
All support beams and railings are there. (Glad I got that done)

Finally a picture of some stairs.
The openings between the individual steps are large enough to actually stick the base of the model in-between.

This weekend I will try to finish the open roof section, 2 big signs and I will make a start assembling all the doors.
After that I have to decide on what to add on the roof.

Until next update.....

I agree, that's great work. I do prefer Basswood over Balsa, I dislike working with wood that soft. Balsa sucks up paint so I would do one of two things either use a sanding sealer on it or prime it. I would lean towards priming it because you really want to hide the grain of the wood anyway.

Most western buildings were left unpainted except for the front (and even that wasn't painted all the time) so you want something that is going to give you that aged look. You can read my technique (please note that I did not figure this out on my own, I borrowed from the model railroad fraternity) for this here: http://wargamesandrailroads.blogspot.com/2013/02/calamity-gets-and-undercoat-weathering.html (http://wargamesandrailroads.blogspot.com/2013/02/calamity-gets-and-undercoat-weathering.html)

You might consider adding some deeper grain to the more exposed wood. You can do this with a razor saw or with very rough sandpaper. Run the saw or the sandpaper along the length of the board to (a good firm pressure) create a nice deep embedded wood grain. Do not actually sand it if you are using sandpaper! One good swipe should do it.

They are superb looking buildings. I agree with other comments, much better than the usual 'box' shapes we seem to see a lot of.

Gorgeous stuff.  If I could scratchbuild like that I wouldn't own MDF buildings.  Love the "cut away" interior walls also, very nicely done.  Beautiful stuff, and the most playable buildings I think I've seen for Old West gaming.

Thanks guys for your comments and compliments.

Thanks Heisler for the link. start thinking of actually painting these buildings.
But first I must finish the fith building of this series.

After that I take a break.

Keep an eye out because the last 2 buildings are NOT what you expect to find in a small town called "Boomville" !!!

Geboom

I think you should get in touch with an MDF company and design stuff for them.  Your designs are much more realistic, and playable than any of the current MDF lines - though your buildings are also "huge" by comparison which is probably a bit of a limiting factor.  Gorgeous work.  The Hotel is simply sublime.  Consider me absolutely jealous.  Gorgeous work.

Echo all the praise.

Might I suggest you consider using wood stain (try mixing it with denatured alcohol to dry better and reduce warping).  There is a considerable range of color options available.  Just experiment first on scrap pieces of wood to ensure you like the look and that it will work with the material you are using - might not react well with that Poladur (not familiar with that product.)

Thanks ;)

With the Town Hall posted there is one building left that I have to post. Working on the roof at the moment so I hope to get this big bad building on line next week.

Thanks again for all the comments.

Thanks FifteensAway for your suggestion on painting the buildings. I will try out several techniques and see what I like most.
I am interested in your opinions on colours for these buildings as well.

In the near future I will add a balsa wood tutorial on my site and explain some of the techniques I used. I made some pictures of the proces of cutting, pressing and graining the wood so that topic will be up soon.

Sangennaru;
A simple hobby knife and fast drying woodglue is almost everything you use.
Problem with my projects is that I rarely make any drawings. I start off with a rough idea ( mostly, I cut some styrodur sheets and form a flat base. from there I start building.
Ideas roll in once I start building so in most cases I do not now how a project will look like in the end at the start of a project.

If you happen to visit upcoming Spielzug Hannover, Crisis Antwerp or Tactica Hamburg you probably can inspect these buildings your self.

Cheers,

Geboom.

I quite like the exterior of the town hall, although I'm not fond of the water tanks. That implies indoor plumbing and I think it really breaks up the elegance of the structure overall. The main staircase is great but there doesn't seem to leave much room for useful rooms on the second and third floors. Ultimately its a great structure and a great game piece, the interior layout just leaves me scratching my head a bit.

I think you would have been fine doing in the entire building in stone if you wanted to. While most western towns lacked a town hall (usually a local saloon served as the town hall) those towns selected as the county seat often were built it entirely of stone or brick. Often there would be at least one important building constructed from brick or stone especially in towns the hoped for some kind of on going, future banks are often good candidates.
Here is an example from Silverton Colorado built when almost all the rest of the town was still wood, or google images of Silver Plume Colorado, every building is wood, except the school (which is massive).

I love it, and I think it suits the purpose fine: something to play on/in.  I find many buildings to be the opposite.  Not nearly enough stuff to engage the gamers in.  I think the water towers add charm (well maybe one would have sufficed!)

Geboom,

You have set a new standard to be emulated by others (whether they 'borrow' or 'steal' your ideas).

Color depends to a degree on where you choose to locate your town and how old you intend it to be.  With the name Boomville, that suggests a very new and likely very temporary town - so perhaps not so much the aged look.  Some of the figures suggest the desert southwest which leans colors in one direction (sandy or reddish undertones).  If you do go with my stain idea, you have quite a spectrum to choose from but I'd opt for closely related colors if not the same for the basic wood with some brighter bits of color here in there to better distinguish the individual structures.

Astonishing work.

Awesome stuff.
almost makes me want to start a western gaming system, because that looks loads of fun to make (even though mine wouldn't look half as nice.

I'll keep the playing with shapes in mind when making my next fantasy buildings though, should fit an inn or such just right.

As for the new building, I have to hazard a guess and say: church?

These are simply amazing. I joined this forum to say so. I'm building an old west/steampunk town right now and you've inspired me to take a lot more time with it.

I'll put a thread up soon and show what I've got so far.

Thanks again for sharing these. I'm looking forward to the tutorial you mentioned.

Ha, ha,

Thanks guys, you are all most kind ( and funny ).
Your replies motivate me inmense. Expect at least one update still this weekend. Roof is slowly taking shape but lotsof think work and details to work on.
When the roof is done ( more or less ) I start again bottum up making the doors, the ladders and the counter/ bar.

Since I got such good replies I suggest you all think about what I build next. Lets call it a Wild West community project. You tell me what to build and I will do so.

Update soon....

Well, let's consider the staples...

-Livery/Stable
-Church (kinda boring)
-Train station
-Bank
-Water tower (you have these down, but some larger ones perhaps?)
-Coach house (for coaches/wagons etc.)

I'd like to see your take on a Livery/Stable and the Train station.  :-*

I'll vote for a train station, too.  And how about a mundane little eatery where the pretty local girl waits tables and catches the local law man's eye.  Uh-oh, who's that nasty looking man who just walked in and scared her three-quarters to death!?  And why does it seem she recognizes him?

A train station sounds verry tempting. Might combine it with a diner ;-)
Building a train station also means building a railroad so will keep that one in mind.
Oh, and if so, it will not be a modest train station.

Just assembled a part of the casino's roof and suddenly it hit me. There is this little building way op there on the roof of the casino. The genetor lives there. Got it in my head, now all I have to do is to execute it!

Yep.  Call it what you want, I'm "borrowing"

I can't add anything to the comments already made.  Wonderful work.

Building suggestions?  I like the train station, and you can add a telegraph office to it as well.  Bank seems like a "must have" so it can be robbed.

Looking forward to future updates and your tutorials as I'll hopefully be starting soon myself.

I absolutely agree on the train station.

A big riverboat would be pretty cool too. That would depend on you making a water feature for your board, but it would be pretty amazing to have the town you've built so far and have fighting spill out into the river/riverboat.

Just a question: where do you find your styrodur? apparently i'ts quite hard to find here.
Well, i assume that styrodur is similar to insulating foam (the higher density), and it's not FOREX, right?

Sangennaru;

Styrodur is indeed high density insulating foam with a verry fine consistent structure. With this stuff alone you can build the most excellent stuff.
See my styrodur section:

http://www.shiftinglands.com/projects/

The one I am using comes from BASF manifacturer but you have more companies around the world that produces similar foam. I got pink foam from the US and even got green and puple foam as well. All difrent kinds but all work more or less the same.
For me Styrodur is easy to come by. Buy them in sheets om 120 x 60 x 10 centimeters.

Working with balsa in combination with foam is great. It holds acryllic paints well but no paints out of spray cans. Those paints eat the styrodur away.

I just realized that you added a lot of updates at the end of your first post, which is quite unusual for me, but makes sense for having all the pics nicely together. An absolutely fantastic casino! Are you planning to add furniture and other equipment? Are you building every single window on its own, or do you use castings?

Thank you all for the nice comments.
Realy keeps me motivated. ( need some since this roof is more complex then expected ).

No castings admiral, all is scratch build. But since I am working with standard sizes for windows and doors I can work relatively fast. And when you make series of doors or windows  you can speed up the work a lot.
Ok it is a lot slower then using pre cut or cast items but it is a lot cheaper as well :-)

I plan to add some items in there ( optional ) but all in good time. After the casino it looks like I have to start thinking on building this train station.
And I must not forget that I still have to paint the miniatures. Then I have to test the Dead Man's Hand rules and the FistFull of Lead rules.
Oh and then we have the " how do I paint these buildings " issue.

And thought I was doing hobby stuff........

Cheers

Things really are looking great. As long as you remember to seal the balsa wood with some kind of sanding sealer or even a clear matte spray of some kind you will be fine. Balsa just sucks up paint and stain if you don't seal it first.

Then I have to test the Dead Man's Hand rules and the FistFull of Lead rules.

Don't know if you are an established fan of any rule system yet, but I happen to be partial to two in particular - Six Gun Sound - Blaze of Glory by Two Hour Wargames, and The Rules With No Name by Foundry, but the un-prettied up version is still available from the Yahoo group, or from gamers who have it (like me).

Each rule set has its own pluses and minuses and part of it is the feel for which you are looking.  6GS has the advantage of a rule structure that is used in all of Ed's rules, so whether you are playing Old West, post-apoc/zombies, WW II, NAM, swashbuckling, ancients & medievals, or space/future in 5150, the other games are easy to pick up once you have a feel for the games mechanics.  The THW blog has a downloads page so you can test drive the mechanics to see if they suit you.  They are excellent for solo play.  Chain Reaction 3 is the one I'd recommend as it is the one that tends to get modded by the users for other periods.  The 6 Gun Sound version available as a free download is notably inferior to the re-done 6GS-Blaze of Glory.  There is also a ver active yahoo group with lots of additional materials and fast answers to rules questions.

The Rules With No Name (I was one of the first contributors/playtesters) also has a good-sized following.  Rules are easy to learn, also give a fun, fast play game.  The Foundry releasr has some nice color pics, and other additional stuff that is nice to have, but you can play easily with the free version.

I'll give DMH rules a go, as I'm a rules junkie for the periods I game but it will take a lot to get me to jump ship at this point.  Having said that, I really like the minis.

Cheers,

JJ

Mr. Geboom,

(Such astonishing craftsman deserves the respect.  Gerald, is it?)

Having been the one to support keeping your posts on the first page, let me also say that we will follow your work if you have to put it on a later page - or perhaps start a new thread to match up with this one (I think okay to keep this one, though).

Having witness what you have created and the incredible speed at which you are working at such a high level, may I ask what your real day job is?  I suspect something to do with building or other precision work or maybe something stressful enough to require this intense level to detail.

On the bar, while what you created is very nice, I don't know how many curved bars like that there would have been in the old west.  I believe much more likely to be long and straight, when the bar isn't just some boards on top of some barrels.

Some where out there lurks some dastardly bastard with enough money, once you are finished with this project, to convince you to sell this masterwork off.  Don't do it!  Keep adding to it until we all agree it is finished.  And then have lots of fun playing with it.  You deserve.

Keep up the great work.  And then build one in 15 mm and send it off as a nice present to me!   lol

Simply insane....almost...too big to play in!  lol  My only qualm, and it's more of a simple personal fear is that in the hussle/bussle of moving/gaming, that the supports for the balconies/railings will be snagged or hit, and thus break.  They just look far too likely to be broken off!  Scares me.  (then again I never trust people when gaming, lol).

 lol

I can't wait to see all of this stuff assembled on one table (if you have a table large enough!)

Geboom, your buildings just get more and more amazing. The sheer scale of the CAsino is jaw-dropping but its that atention to detail that really impresses me, the loading ramp, the tarpaper roof panels, the bannisters. I really can't stress how gobsmacked I am by this project. So looking forward to seeing the painted final versions of what you have so far!

Fifteensaway,

I hope to do a final update in this topic as usual but it seems you kan only have 20.000 caracters in one message. ( never thought I would make such a long topic )

Having a full time job as a HR consultant this means that I can only do hobby in the evenings and weekends. In this case it's a plus that I rarely watch TV. I do have some trained skills at design, sketching and woodworks since I went to a carpenter school somewhere in the previous millenium.
It must sound logic that you end up being a HR advisor when you start carpenter school.

The bar is indeed way to playfull. Best go for a straight forward version. Will be added asap.

It could well be so that someone will report in and offers me money for my buildings. This happened with Boomville 1.0 and several other projects I made. No worries, I wnat to play and even post reports.but as with all projects, there might be a moment whe I do sell Boomville 2.0.

If you come over we build a building together and you can take it with you!

Elbows;
Youare absolutely right. I am verry watchfull when people play with my buildings. Most people are aware of the time and effort that went into these projects but some are not that carefull while playing. There might be some damage over time but nothing I can't repair.

Now for painting the building; well Cholly I hope to do a little testing this weekend with a product that seems not suiteble for painting. Never the less I want to test it out and if that works (I give it a fair chance ) then The revolution in painting wooden structures starts here!

Keep you all posted.

Cheers,

Geboom ( Gerard, Gerald, Gerhard, Ge , Geep )

It just keeps getting better and better. You could play an entire game just in the casino. The bar is very unusual and has been pointed out would more than likely be straight maybe with one curved corner. For those that are interested there are a couple of interesting books on saloons of the old west. "Saloons of the Old West" by Richard Erdoes is more of a general history but it has some fascinating information in it along with a lot of woodcuts and a few pictures. The other is "The Great American Bars and Saloons" by Kathy Weiser. This one is filled with photographs and there are enough exterior shots to make it quite useful for modeling other buildings as well.

Hello,

this is the most amazing Balsa Stuff i've ever seen.   :o  :-*
Congratulations!

I would love to reproduce these ones, but my problem is, that my gaming table don't look like the typical desert/sandy Area, but more like in the movie "Legends of the Fall".
You can see what i mean on this picture from the movie:
http://www.zastavki.com/pictures/1366x768/2008/Movies_Films_L_Legends_of_the_Fall_010189_.jpg (http://www.zastavki.com/pictures/1366x768/2008/Movies_Films_L_Legends_of_the_Fall_010189_.jpg)

Does anyone know how the buildings (1860 - 1900) looked like in a more nothern area (montana etc.) of the wild west?
Was it the same style like the geboom buildings or not?

Please help me to find sources.

Best regards,
Jan

Geboom's buildings have a lot of architectural leeway taken with them.  But remember, in that time frame there were no building codes.  You can get away with a lot of stuff, ranging from old log cabins from the late 1700's - up to brickwork buildings like the early 1900's.  Don't fret about it.

I will say Geboom's buildings are more town/city than ranch of course.

Hi,

thanks again. Log cabin was a very good catchword for my google research.
I think for the beginning 2-3 Ranch houses / log cabins will be sufficiently for my table. I don't have the storage room for a whole city.
Bad for me, that for climbing and playing on the top of buildings the City-Shapes like (these from geboom) are much better. :)

Ah, one member built up a ranch. What a pity that some images are missing:

Buildings didn't change much from one part of the old west to another. Many buildings in Montana would fit right in at Bodie California, or AZ, or CO, or NM.
