Hi thanks again for the interest.

I have just put a size comparison with perry on my blog, but i think it depends on what compatible means to you personally, for me it means the same kind of look, because mean are all sizes, what i dont like is to mix heroic dwarflike with more realistic proportions.
I think they look ok, same in style though not seamless because mine are mostly bigger, this is because i found having them a little bigger allowed me to put more detail in.
also yes many more daimyo are planned, the next release including mounted samurai should be released in january

despite my best efforts i cannot put pics on this forum, but the link to the blog is fistofsteel15c.blogspot.com

hope this helps

Judging by the pictures they are a little larger than Perry in stature but not so big to look out of scale, instead they just look like a taller guy. The guys with the bear suits look bigger but that makes sense because fur would take up more space than closer fitting armour.

Here is the picture :

In the future if you need to embed and imagine just type with no space after the first img

As a side not I am going to have to get bear suit guy at some point along with the guy with the mask that looks like a face.

I notice you were only able to compare them to Perry because its all you have on hand. I have requested some Steel First Samurai from the GF for christmas, I don't think she is getting me any but if does has I will post up comparison picture of Steel First, Perry, The Assault Group, Wargames Factory and Westwind so people can get a better idea of scale.

Great looking figures, however, I wish they where more dynamic, the static pose is just not great for Wargaming. A couple of generals clamly sending the troops into attack is fine, but how about some of those great looking figures in fighting poses!

I don't mind the lack of action shots. Almost everyone elses Samurai miniatures seem to be already in the fight so its nice to have some that are waiting for the fight to come to them or are not in the frey yet.

These are in action though.

What I really want is a miniature midway through drawing his sword, I haven't been able to find it from any manufacturers. Not sure if its historically accurate but the image and the idea of a Samurai both drawing his sword and killing his enemy seems very characteristic of how we see the Samurai, at least in terms of duels. So I would love to see a Samurai doing something similar, possibly with the martial art Iadio as a reference. Like many sculptors use Kyudo as a reference when creating Samurai archers.

Thanks for putting that up Carlos, I have tried the img way of posting but must have done something wrong...

Regarding a samurai drawing sword, my version of honda tadakatsu is drawing his katana but only a quarter of the blade is showing.

Also the new figures are mostly in advancing charging poses, I want some daimyo with their guards at the rear directing things, but the rest of the daimyo will be mounted charging.

Cheers

murakami clan? i have not looked into the naval side, so im not yet familiar with them but it depends on if i like the armour really, would be a long way down the list though because of the others will need to come first. i would think you could use generic daimyo for them?

glad you like them cid i would also like to see pics.

No doubt you've been asked many times before, but how do these stand in size and heft against other makers' ranges.

In my case I'm most interested in the comparison with Kingsford, whose figures are quite large (just the way I like 'em!).  But I know many others will also wonder against Perry, North Star etc.

I saw one really huge last week and thought it would be cool for a mini. Pictures weren't allowed and I can't find any on the internet but you can see it at 1:00 in the promo video of the expo:

http://www.mcjp.fr/francais/expositions/kanazawa-aux-sources-d-une-culture-765/kanazawa-aux-sources-d-une-culture

No idea if that's the helmet Jimbibbly is talking about but I like it. Now you know why WF samurai have those strong necks, kidding.

There are others including those ones:

Photo's a bit unfocused but the painting looks good. How hard was the lacing to paint?
Title: Re: new samurai by steel fist miniatures
Post by: THE CID on November 23, 2013, 02:00:26 PM
Painting samurai can be a bit daunting, I do tend to concentrate on one figure at a time. The lacing wasn't too bad as the detailing is very good on the figure. I don't prime with a full black cover, as I find it hard to pick out the fine detail. Instead I use a heavy black ink wash.
You're right the photo is out of focus, it's the only one I have as I've sold the figure. THE CID.

I am just about to start painting a Samurai Army and it is a little daunting as you say. I think I am going to batch paint the Ashigaru but do the samurai individually.

I'm not planning on immediately making that figure, however that shell crest was on a number of helmets, so I'm going to make one as a separate crest.

The links PF has shown show mainly edo period kabuto, but apparently because wild looking elaborate kabuto were seen during the sengouku period, these can be hard to date,
Therefore I think that putting a few of the outlandish helmets in a sengouku miniature collection is perfectly plausable.

I believe that my miniatures would be more compatible with kingsford that perry as I hear kingsford are also larger than perry.
Thanks for showing the miniature CID I'm always happy to see examples of my miniatures painted by others, looks like you did a good job. I try to make the detail crisp as possible also I hope to have more painting guides ready soon. However if anyone is unsure about what kind of colours to use, look at the painted miniatures on my site as I have used accurate colour schemes.
Cheers

I think if you army is mostly Perry then using Steel Fist as generals and commanders works really well, they are a little larger which gives them more presence and makes them stand out a little more among other models without being out of scale.

That is a late edo armour representing a tengu, a mythical creature that was a man with birdlike features, there were said to be different variations of tengu, and there are lots of armours with tengu features. in fact one of my books has a edo period picture of miyamoto musashi being trained to fight by tengu warriors. If you like that armour you will like one of the miniatures in the next release...

Regarding books thanks for the offer of info wansui, but I too have the gakken books plus many others, they are a great source of info, pity the gakken books are in Japanese though.

Is it possible to sell some standards separate as many daimyo's used the same sort of o/ko uma jirushi such as giant war fans, streamers(I don't know what else to call them),and 3d ones?

Wansui if you can read kanji I may ask if you can identify certain armours in future if I get stuck, fortunately my brother reads hiragana and katakana, but not kanji, and gakken books seem to mostly be kanji.

Regarding that Kenshin armour, it is the most impressive, i have a book that shows it from several angles and the face is different on eack of its three sides, i also like the molten lava affect on the armour. but I'm going to be focusing on sekighara lords for now.

Lots of the best samurai books are expensive and hard to find, but I have found lots come on eBay periodically.

I can read kanji thanks to my Chinese heritage lol

I'm fortunate that some of my relatives or friends live in Japan therefore they help me order and send me the books.

In my honest opinion the Gakken books on Ebay are way overpriced.

Look these up on Japanese Amazon

There's the Mori clan 毛利戦記―大内、尼子を屠った元就の権謀 (歴史群像シリーズ) [ムック]
There's Mori Motonari 毛利元就―西国の雄、天下への大知略 (歴史群像シリーズ) 学習研究社

There are plethora of books on castle I will list 2 that got high ratings on Amazon.
日本100名城公式ガイドブック―日本の文化遺産「城」を見に行こう (歴史群像シリーズ) [単行本]
戦国の城 (歴史群像シリーズ特別編集) [ムック]

I can't vouch for the credibility of these books as I don't own them...
