In a fit of enthusiasm, the good Dr The Viking agreed to dig out his WW1 Frenchies, whilst I took on the evil Hun :o
Dipping into my cupboard of doom, in addition to those I painted in my initial burst of enthusiasm, I found a small pile of based and undercoated, as well MIB, Great War Mini Germans:

So what to do first?
-
Ou! Lala!!!
-
Excellent - the HMG is my suggestion. That'll give you something to make some noise with.

Good suggestion. I'll need to assemble to other HMG and Field Gun to make it a proper September task. In the meantime I've made a start on some basic infantry types to crack by the end of the month:

Hooray :D
cheers

good start Guys! :) Personally i'd start with the Horses, everything is easy to paint after you have the Horses done :D
Dont forget about Scarab Miniatures, they're making some nice WW1 Minis too (French Cuirassiers anyone?)
-
Thanks Dr F.
Unfortunately, Scarab are not to my taste - I think the nicely sculpted French Cuirassiers on their website are actually by Great War Minis ;D
-
And while Steph-o is sitting on his hands I managed to paint these in 3 hours:
That means I get to buy another unit, because I've painted all the troops I have. lol
Three HOTFUZZ machine guns are on their way to me as we speak.
-
Three hours :o It takes me that long to find my brush these days ;D
They look great too.

They're shite. It's painted with a ginormeous brush, washed, drysbrushed. Any corners I could cut are cut.
But I reasoned that that the only way I'll ever get enough painted to make an army for whatever game Janner has in store. lol lol
And thanks.
Just to elabrorate on my stupidity I actually have WW1 figures in both 6, 15 and 28 mm. Brilliant right? But Janner prefers 28, so 28 (or 30 with the renegade stuff) it is.
I hope we'll 'play through the war' over the next few years seeing it's the 100th and all.
-
Three hours?!? :o
-
Three hours?!? :o
o_o
Those do look terrific! :-*
-
Nicely done, matey. Mine will have to wait until next week for further love as I have the last of my Sci Fi stuff to finish for the weekend :)
-
They look grand to me matey 8) 8)
cheers
James
-
For three hours work they do look pretty splendid :-*
Looking forward to seeing this project develop.
-
3 hours and looking like that. You are very talented at either painting, photographing or Photoshop.

I don't know the first thing about photoshop, but I know how to shine a light on them and point a camera in the right direction.
If you right click and choose 'view image' (or whatever it's called in your browser) you will easily be able to see all the 'holidays' on these miniatures.
Here's a link to the big picture: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cntcLl2VP5w/UhOhup9VdeI/AAAAAAAAINo/3_HFMkN1BXc/s2000/P1250321.JPG (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cntcLl2VP5w/UhOhup9VdeI/AAAAAAAAINo/3_HFMkN1BXc/s2000/P1250321.JPG)
-
the third army of pulp era frenchmen, welcome
three hours.... wow
I would buy tickets to a tutorial for that - mastering You technique could lead to a sharp increase in miniatures demand because people suddenly can manage getting their lead-piles painted :D
-
They look pretty damn good for three days if you ask me.

This mob is now dressing in gloss and waiting for a matt dull cote...
I bought them when Renegade released them ages ago. Never thought I'd ever paint them.
I think they came in a pack of 20 odd with some leaders and an HMG.. but I guess half of them have dwindled away over the years.
-
THREE HOURS!???!
Drugs test!!!
Oh, this is the LAF, not the IOC....
Stunning result for such a short time.
:-* :-* :-*
I am deeply envious.
>:(
The 'glossy' fellas aint too shabby either.
;)

Yeah, well, it's not like my clock was running.
I am not counting drying times either. But, really, this is almost completely like 'dipping' and it goes fast. World War One models just lend themselves to it...

Well, it certainly works!

And they're done
-
Looking great. :)
Have you forgotten to paint the fixed bayonet on the chap top left? Or is it the photo?
-
Actually a black bayonet blade isn't far wrong. I owned one once and they were parkerized.
-
Looking great. :)

I didn't paint it because I thought they were black. .. :)

Fair do's, it shows my ignorance lol

First task complete and off for varnishing:

Next up, a couple of HMGs and two infantrymen to complete the HQ of the II. company.
-
Stellar work!

You chaps are really pounding through these 8)

Hehe... you're going to wait for that, mate.
The rules we're using require a LOT of figures. ;)
-
Looking good. Is there terrain planned as well down the track?
-
Fair do's, it shows my ignorance lol
They did black coat the bayonets to stop glare or glinting, still do it today. Mind you I woul ahve painted them shiny too ;D so cant be smug
-

There is?!? lol

There is?!? lol
Resin trenches ...
Edit. Oops, on checking the informal rules I saw 'equipment' was to come last. So the HMGs and Field Artillery have been bumped back down the list in favour of more grenadiers :o
-
Comfortably in time this month with an officer and twelve man platoon:
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/WW1/IMG_1189_zps0b0860a4.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/WW1/IMG_1189_zps0b0860a4.jpg.html)
They'll be off for varnishing once the PVA holding the grass in place is dry :)
Next up, another fourteen grenadiers...
-
Zeer Gut 8)
-
Just noticed I'd missed the officer's belt buckle - very slack and now sorted :o
-
Look good to me mate 8) 8)
cheers
James

You are doing great. Looking forward to seeing more.

2nd :-*
-
Next batch - somewhat late due to family commitments and a business trip, but here are (yet another) batch of grenadiers:
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/WW1/IMG_1295_zpse730bf8d.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/WW1/IMG_1295_zpse730bf8d.jpg.html)
Only fourteen more of these and then it's the HMGs etc :D
-
Very nice!
:-*
What is even more impressive is the fact that you are keeping up the standard across so many very similar figures.

I've come to hate field grey, no really lol lol
-
I unfortunately stalled on the last batch of grenadiers. Hopefully 2014 will see my being able to face field grey again.
Apologies, but after all, we are on this for fun :)
-
Yup absolutely
we are doing this to set our own rhythm, so sometimes we have to recalibrate

Hear hear!
-
I was just about to ask about certain cavalry.... ;)
-
Following inspiration from mssrs Bickley and Robinson, here are the next batch of Imperial Germans:
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/WW1/IMG_2106_zpsc7cafc48.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/WW1/IMG_2106_zpsc7cafc48.jpg.html)
The last of 1st Grenadier Regiment and the first recruits for 41st Infantry Regiment. Bases have been left unfinished as they will now go on multibases...
-
hah, finally, continuation!
more than I can claim for my own stuff
can't wait to see the rest!
-
Nice additions!
-
Excellent miniatures, are they all of Great War Mini's manufacture? Will they make it to Horisont this year?
-
Nearly a year late but why not ;D
cheers
James
-
nah, protestant work ethic is for the LPL >:D
-
Excellent miniatures, are they all of Great War Mini's manufacture? Will they make it to Horisont this year?
Germans by GWM and Russians by Brigade. I should have about four battalions aside ready shortly. It all depends on when the odd missing commander turns up in the post :)
Nearly a year late but why not ;D
Fashionably late ;)
-
Next up, the two MG crews:
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/WW1/IMG_2107_zpsbc6732e0.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/WW1/IMG_2107_zpsbc6732e0.jpg.html)
That leaves seven grenadiers, four lancers, and a field gun with crew to reach my original target :D
-
Nearly a year late but why not ;D
A Wizard is never late!
And I am pretty sure Janner must be some form of a wizard with the painting output and quality he produces for all periods and genres.
It must be either wizard or he has an army of paintslaves chained in his basement.
-

We have a German Phd student down there if that counts?
-
I think these three are the last of my original German infantry (although more have turned up since then!):
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/WW1/IMG_2197_zps4f7e1432.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/WW1/IMG_2197_zps4f7e1432.jpg.html)
I hope to have the third battalion of Grenadiers cracked this weekend. So all that remains from my original purchase is an artillery piece :D
-
hey great!
-
That was real fast. Nice looking miniatures.
-
The second artillery piece is on top of the original task I set myself, but who's counting ;)
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/WW1/IMG_2211_zps9c6a09b8.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/WW1/IMG_2211_zps9c6a09b8.jpg.html)
-
Nothing wrong with doing extra mate :D
cheers
James
-
Last of the original lead finally done:

And the group shot:

-
A great looking force. Congrats on the finish.
-
Awesome sauce :D
cheers
James
-
The topic title confuses me though. ;-)
-
Me too now you mention it lol
cheers
James
-
Good work, whoever is actually responsible for painting up the force :)
I don't see many WW1 armies, so extra kudos!
-
It's the phrase used in the UK military to report the completion of supporting fire from mortars, artillery, naval gunfire etc. :D
-
lol lol lol
Very good :D
cheers
James
