Title: Brummie's Fantasy Thread 08/08 Goblins!!
Post by: Brummie Thug on August 19, 2013, 11:54:14 PM
Shinyitus Strikes in Birmingham! I Have been lured into the realms of fantasy by the fantastic range from Otherworld miniatures as well as the planned rules being release by them and Crooked Dice. I was determined not to start another not in 28mm anyway but hey ho bloody lovely figures and my favourite ruleset means I relented!

First character finished.

Tharzon Hammerfist, Captain of the 'Fists of Iron' Adventuring Company

Really Really enjoyed paint this guy lovely sculpt and easy to paint

I plan on getting some classic creatures but for now the dungeon/adventuring will be up against a load of mantic zombies.

The second dwarf has been finished this evening and need to take some pics.

Welcome to the dark abyss of fantasy gaming Brummie - check the dwarven sculpts in Hasslefree too, especially the ones by Tre Manor - great character in those.

Also looking forward to the Otherworld rules. Do we have a potential release date yet?

Thanks yes he is a Dwarf  ;)

@Muncehead not sure yet besides the initial press release I've not heard anything yet. I think its being playtested at the moment then there will be a kickstarter later in the year.

Welcome to the dark abyss of fantasy gaming Brummie

My erstwhile friend, Mike, told my this new game Dungeons & Dragons with its three almost unintelligible rules booklets was cool & only required a couple dozen minis. Nearly forty years later I've still got minis yet to paint..."Give up all hope. Ye who enter here."

That said, you've started The Journey with some BEAUTIFULLY painted pieces. Have FUN with the Beasty!

Lol DeafNala that is certainly correct i'm trying to be good and have vowed never to play a game with an unpainted figure :D I only came back to the hobby 2-3 years ago back in the 90's nearly all my stuff was unpainted just glued together and whapped onto the table :D

Petril Shortcloak is a mercenary sellsword currently a member of the 'Fists of Iron' Adventuring company.  A husband and wife team Petril and his wife Kat are an excellent pair of fighters who work together well. Petril fends off foes with his trusty halberd whilst Kat shoots them down with accurate fire from her trusty crossbow. The Shortcloak's are still young for Gnomes and have a lust for exploring the world, adventure and of course treasure. They hope to one day earn enough gold to buy themselves an Inn, retire and settle down and raise a family

I fell in love with that gnome as soon as I saw the original green (I have a bit of thing for such mediaeval touches as heater shields, kettle-hats and Crusader war-masks). Mind you I found him a bit of a beggar to paint,  being so small yet beautifully detailed.

By the way, what other dogs do you have?

Me to as well as the mage/thief and the lovely female one with crossbow. Dogs wise I only have four others at the minute 3 Crooked Dice Guard Dogs and the Bull Terrier from the Eden Range.

Fifth member of the Fist's of iron.

Torgar Oakarm is a skilled thief and member of the 'Fist's of Iron' adventuring company. Torgar excels in the finding and disarming of traps. Handy with a lock pick as well as being stealthy (for a Dwarf anyway) when the need arises. Torgar has his trusty short sword but also use's a long pole to search out traps he is always in the frontline when the 'Fist's of Iron' are chartered for an expedition. Checking the way is clear for himself and his fellow adventurer's.

I flapped around abit with this guy as normally I build figs then paint them but with the position of the pole it prevents you painting the face. In a way its great as I think I got pretty good results (For me anyway) I will paint multi part figs like this in the future.

Milo Tealeaf is typical of his race, stealthy, small and quick. Deft with lobbing stones especially from his sling. Milo makes an excellent forward scout as well as having sharp eyes for spotting ambush's and traps. Milo's only downside is his pilfering nature the curse of most Halfling who seem to lack boundaries when it comes to ownership of personal belongings! Serving currently with the Fists of Iron adventuring company.

Falco Stoatoak mercenary sellsword currently in the employ of the Fists of Iron adventuring company. Falco as a child was always enthralled by the tales his grandfather used to tell by the fireside of knights and warriors battling great beasts and slaying monsters at the fireside growing up. So much so all Falco ever wanted  to be was to be a great warrior.  Armed with his trusty axe and shield Falco is adept at hamstringing his opponents and bring them down to his level so he can finish them. Often seen as no threat by most enemies due to his size they often realise there mistake all to late as the last thing they see is his axe descend to lop off there heads after chopping them down at there knees!

Jonti Frandsen Dwarf fighter a part of the inner core of the Fists of Iron adventuring company. Equipped with his trusty two handed hammer called 'Elf Grudge' named so after a long war with the evil cave dwelling Drow this ancient weapon has been handed down father to son.

Jonti can always be found in the thick of the fighting during the Fists of Irons adventures. Jonti enjoys the simple roaming life of an adventurer and loves only two things, crushing skulls with his hammer and the other is mead! the latter usually leading to the former.

Been a while since I did any Fantasy figures but got a few bits done this week. Latest adventurer done finished they bases have been stripped off of the old mini's and I've put them on thinner ones.

Otto Graven is a mercenary for hire after being the sole survivor of a party that ventured into a goblin lair in order to clear it out. Not realising the goblins had a pet troll most of the party was kiled whilst the struggled to take down this regenerating menace. Eventually Otto managed to hack it down with his battle axe and then cover it with oil from his lamp and burning the remains. Otto unable to revive any of his comrades he returned a hero with his pockets full of treasure from the goblins stash. Otto has  now equipped himself with the best suit of armour and gear money can buy. With a deep hatred for trolls Otto never goes anywhere without a few flasks of oil and plenty of torches just in case.

Thanks very much.  The figure is from Otherworld and is the fighter V2. This is how he comes :) if I remember correctly he is in four pieces body, back pack, shield and right arm with axe.

You've done another FINE job with the Bold Adventurer...the background does enhance the brushwork SPLENDIDLY. GREAT WORK!
The helmet reminds me of a mini I did up for my Old D&D/AD&D Group a long time ago.

Started a new project recently themed on the styles of the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal movies and of course Froud artwork.

It will be using SoBH and mainly to get my 6 yr old daughter playing some simple games with me.

First two 'good' characters I've finished recently. The First was a bit weird to photo its quite a flat figure to photo head on.

Well the urge to paint some more Fantasy figures has re surfaced. I've ended up having to strip and repaint my Dwarf Fighter due to the Varnish being to thick and turning misty. Apologies struggling to get decent pics lately.

Kat Shortcloak.

Kat Shortcloak is the wife of Petril a pair of fighters in the Fist's of Iron adventuring company. While her husband Petril gets up close and personal with his halberd. Kat hangs back bringing down enemies with her trusty crossbow. Kats not adverse to a bit of hand to hand and is quite deft with a shortsword Kat's rucksack is made from the skin from an unusual fat goblin that tried to sneak up behind her exploring a cave once. The Goblins green hue which is an unusual colour for a goblin skin inspired her to have him skinned, cured and turned into a bag that serves to remind her to always watch her back.

Tobias Filch is a master thief, tinkerer and dabbler in the arts of magic (Which he uses to help find traps, unlock doors and chests, identify items of magical value and of course dispel the odd illusion hiding treasure). Tobias wanders from adventuring company to company often at there detriment to there members personal inventories and purses. Currently Tobias has joined up with some of his own kind Petril and Kat Shortcloak of the Fists of Iron Adventuring Company who are preparing for an expedition into the Dimwood on the hunt for a band of goblins who are raiding nearby
homesteads and villages.

Another Adventurer finished off. Starting work on some goblins and more Night Folk.
