Title: Kickstarter Ended now - Base stamp pads - updated 15/9/2013 (picture heavy)
Post by: muncehead on August 22, 2013, 07:23:18 AM
EDIT: Kickstarter finished successfully 15/9/13

Just come across this KS for some great looking 15cm resin base stamper pads. I like the idea you can get a huge variety of bases from the one pad. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2023606288/bake-your-own-basius-base-pads-for-wargames-and-mi (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2023606288/bake-your-own-basius-base-pads-for-wargames-and-mi)

Here  are a couple of the pads:

This is the level of detail you can get on the whole pad so a 25mm round base will have a small section of that. Worth a look at least.

They look interesting, but I am less than impressed with that they do not promise to ship to my country. Something about not being able to get the shipment insured? I didn't know Finland and Sweden were so backward countries, seriously? lol

Who even uses insured mail for something as low cost as this?

May have something to do with the fragile nature of the resin (it's a wide piece) - no idea why not shipable to those countries though.

EDIT: there is an option in the FAQ how to get bases to any countries not listed so may be worth a look.

crazy expensive for $US based backers sadly. Probably due to shipping. Looks quite handy though.

Just to update they have hit funding and now have additional base stamp pads

The detail is amazing - need to expand my pledge.

That looks good. Now if they do a victorian cobblestone base, I'm in. 8)

Dungeon treasure vaults, Steampunk outlands and victorian streets on the way apparently.

I'd love these. But 52 quid for two :o That calls for a lot, and a lot of basing.

I am a bit miffed by the dice one. Is anybody really going to spend money on that?  lol

They've added two more options/stamps/thingies:

That one is a 'crafted world' one..

...and I really like the detail on this one - shell casings, discarded weaponry - very shiney!

It is a bit ouchy but I'm weighing up these vs cast bases.... which can still be very nice.

Some example bases from the KS

And some of the newer unlocked and still locked pads

Really like the treasure room and t
he rail junctiony-type one (horse shoes in the mud too).

They have added some fantastic new bases (that need to be unlocked)

Not sure if all the pics are appearing right - and apologies for the pic-heavyness.....

Hum. Some of them present a good amount of work, others seems a bit.... approximative. I mean, the idea of masters for bases is not bad, nor new, though. They could focus on something interesting (as cobblestones, why not) instead of gluing sand or electronical devices on a round base...

ah, and another think: writing "this is the positive impression that the Basing Pad produces from its Negative sculpted detailing" is ok, but not when you're obviously showing the master of the mold! ù.ù

As I see it - the new aspect is the fact they are cast in resin not rubber, to get a sharper edge - I agree it works better on some of the pictures not all(they did get their kids to paint up some of the examples)

This:
when green stuff has been applied to the whole pad, hardened and painted, gives you this:
- a 15cm wide base.
Don't forget they are designed to be used like this:
providing a huge amount of variety to your bases.

I should add, I have nothing to do with these guys, other than being in for 5 bases myself. Will be using them on my Empire of the Dead figures as well as re-basing my fantasy RPG figures.

well, that makes them cheaper! or at least it should.

Again, some of the pieces are quite interesting and detailed, but it seems (to me) that other molds are just sand glued on a base, plus some random detail. or dices, or rocks.

Not sure if that is the painting/washing used and I do see what you mean about the sand, especially on the beach-type one... although you could paint it as grass in the absence of flock.

I imagine they will retail at around £28 each once in the store. Sounds a bit steep until you take into account the variety and number of individual bases you can cast. There are some lovely pre-cast bases available out there and I have ones from Fenris Games, Terrain Geek, Micro-Art Studios, Basix to name a few and can still see myself getting those on top of what I can produce  using these pads.

The dice base.... hmm, not sure about that one....
