Title: Building 4Ground's General Purpose and Ox Wagons
Post by: Heisler on August 25, 2013, 07:35:34 PM
Since I had an order in for buildings I figured I would add some wagons to the mix. Definitely need a few wagons to take cover behind when the gunfire starts!

Very nice, I believe the wheel arches on the ox wagon are to protect the goods from the wheels.

When I put mine together I didn't clamp anything as it all went together pretty well. Unlike the buildings which got clamped hugely.

Yea, most of 4Ground's stuff doesn't need any clamps, usually rubber bands are all you really need. However, I own a lot of clamps and I use them whenever I have to join a couple of pieces together, just how I learned to work with wood regardless of what its meant for.

The 4Ground wagons are fantastic, though a bit intimidating (each wagon is MANY pieces).  I definitely will be picking up a couple more (they can be used in so many settings, regardless of historical accuracy, lol).

I am building a "wagon stand" which is essentially a large plasticard base with a small team of horses...the wagons can be placed on the stand for use in scenarios (allowing me to essentially limber/unlimber any of my wagons etc.  Unfortunately my Army Painter tone went bad and I ruined one of the horse teams, so it'll be a while.  Thanks for posting all of this stuff Heisler - you do a much more professional job then I have!  lol

There were some questions about whether a mini on a 25mm base will fit in the wagon. The answer is sort of. As built the sides of the wagon slant in slighted so it won't sit quite flat at the bottom. However, if you sand the bottom boards on the inside it shouldn't take much work to sand it wide enough. I would recommend sanding from the back of the rib where the bench is glued in all the way to the rear. If you sand the front portion you may not get a good fit for the bench and the front foot rest so only sand in the cargo area. I took some quick pictures last night showing how they fit.

Yep, one of my biggest complaints with the wagons (only complaint really I suppose...).  I didn't do any maths while assembling mine so they do not fit the normal slottabases I use for my BS minis.  :-X  I will likely try to fix this if I get more wagons.
