Driscoles and I are planning a TSATF game in January.
Here are the first two figures, with many, many more to come!!
-
Dom, you make me jealous! I want Sudan too :D clean work, man! Cant wait to see more 8)
-
Those look great Dom. I can't wait to see the rest of the army.
-
very good !!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Envy, envy, envy! Say, did I get those British colonials from you, or am I confusing things? I might just have to break them out after seeing yours...
-
Just fantastic Dominic....
I have selected 60 Sudanese until now and started cleaning up 20 Fuzzis.
Lots of work left...
-
Thanks guys!
@Chris - yes, you are right. I sold you some Old Glory Sudan minis. These are from the later Omdurman campaign. The ones I am doing now are Perry Minis to represent the earlier Gordon Relief expedition.
@Prof - you can never have too many Fuzzies!! The more the better!!
@Driscoles - which company are your Fuzzies from?
-
Dom, i'm going to paint some Fuzzies for the game :D
No idea how many, for the moment 1-2 units.
-
Hi,
my Fuzzis are from Old Glory... I can hear the complaints from other people right now but I dont think they are such bad. Sure the Perrys look better but in my opinion only slightly and I bought my Ansars, Fuzzi and Rifle Skirmishers 7 years Ago. There were not so much choices for a poor guy like me.
In other words I like my OG`s
Björn
-
@Driscoles - OG's are generally OK. The only problem is that you have to buy such a big bag of them! Look forward to seeing the first pics of the enemy!!
-
Rainy Sundays are the best painting days!! :D
(http://www.napnuts.com/sudan/sudan06.JPG)
-
Great Figures....I agree....the cold and rainy days are the best for painting models !
Björn
-
3 more figures...
-
:D Can't wait to see the fuzzies painted up. As for Old Glory, i have a lot of their stuff and am quite happy with it. There are some rough figs as well, but not every fig can be a show stopper.
Flashy
-
Flashman - you gave me an idea! One of my unit commanders or staff officers will be Sir Harry himself!
-
Ever your servant Saahhh!
-
The first (half) unit...man, this is hard work!
-
well done, Dom, they look great!
I know that's hell to paint again and again almost the same fig, reminds me to the german marines  How many of the brits are you going to paint?
-
super  schäferhund
Grimm
-
I will try to do 40 of them in red.
After that a couple of artillery and high command.
Then maybe I will come back to red infantry (or should I do them in grey)? :freak:

40....have fun
some grey versions would be nice for sure, just for another regiment
-
Oh! I just remembered! I also have 40 of these guys. They are not so nice as the Perry's, but if I can't paint enough Perry's then these guys can also come into action

Please keep down your pace Dominic.
I have finnished 6 Fuzzis yet. the rest 14 are primed and based already and painting is going fast but please keep your speed down. You have already 40 beautifull painted Britts !
Björn
-
@Prof - a good general always holds a reserve, and always has a Plan 'B'!
I have a day off today, so I will start on the next British unit soon!
-
Next batch. I like these poses better. Sorry about the photo. I don't know how to get them all to be in focus.

Great looking bunch of men there :D!
I've just ordered my own squad of redcoats from perry's, no idea when they'll be here though, so I'll just try to fill the time waiting with getting my paint orders through. Any idea on how long the perry lads take with sending an order within Europe?
What paints do you use? Foundry?
-
Thanks Pax!
My experience with Perry has been good. They normally take about a week to deliver.
I use mainly Vallejo and some GW paints.

"Steady, boys!"

Excellent Dominic. Do you have vacation ? You are painting fast.
I just have finnished the bases of my Sudanese.
First troop is ready. . I will post pictures tomorrow or on monday.
Now I will watch boxing.
Besides...I decided to order some Sudanese from the Perries. Not much though but some Leaders, Musicians and Standard Bearers.
Cheers Mate
-
Thanks Bjoern.
No vacation, but I am using every free moment to paint!
No time for TV or anything else, just paint, paint, paint!!
Also, I am using some short-cuts now eg - less shading, don't bother so much about mistakes in places that are hard to see and so on.
-
They look Fantastic! I alwasy use a three foot rule for larger armies. If they look good from three feet then they are good enough.

Here's the latest batch:
And here's a quick summary of what I've done so far in the last 3 weeks:

Now you need a flag, musicians and an Officer on Horse !
Fantastic work Dominic and in such a short time. I know you have a busy job and here you show all wargamers who say they have no time to paint that they are false. Its only a question of organisation.
Hats off.
I try everything to get 60 Sudanese ready until we meet !
Björn
-
Dom, that's brilliant, we'll have a great game, man :)
My Sudan Perry force is arrived, guys!!!! Lots of little boxes full of beauty. As soon as partisans are finished I'll start the mahdists. Hope to get 40-50 of them painted until january
-
Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to the game!
I'm still painting more Sudan stuff and will continue to post more pics as and when I finish something! :D
-
I think we will get a pretty large Sudanese Force on the table.
Iam looking forward to it :o)
-
Nice work. :D

fantastic! love these sailors, bought them too :)
-
Absolutely Fantastic Dominic !
:o
-
Really amazing :D
Any hints to what paints you used?
-
Hi Pax - the paints are mainly Vallejo.
Dark Prussian blue for the uniform and Oxford Blue for the highlights.
-
Been busy this week, so only managed one fig:

Sorry for the repeat post, but for completeness of this thread, I thought I should also post it here:

Here are some Stalwart Sikhs from Foundry:
-
the turbans came out very nice!
-
can´t wait to see them in live
-
@FG - after 5 layers of shading, they better look good!! :D
-
More Sikhs. These guys are painted in the uniform of the 15th Bengal Infantry who were in action around Suakin and Tamai in 1885. These Sikhs fought with distinction together with the Berkshires and a detachment of the Naval Brigade while defending a zareba (hollow square lined with thorn bushes) against more than 5000 Mahdists.
-
Brave guys and they look good as well.
Cheers
Björn
-
Thanks! I forgot to add that they can also be used for DA, NW Frontier, WW1 and Back of Beyond! (well, just have to ignore their old pattern water bottles and rifles)
-
More Sikhs:

very clean work, Dom, well done!

I think you can also use the British Figures for the Grate Game in Afghanistan so I must get me some Hill tribesmen
-
Thanks guys!
Grimm - you are absolutely right! We need some hill tribesmen!
And now for a small surprise:
-
Unbelievable :o Driscoles, we dont need to paint minis for january
-
Damn! Dom, these are great. Now if only I could have someone who lived near me do all the painting for all the figures I could ever use in a game.
-
:o
:o
:D
Dom...youre a genious !!!!
I havent seen closeups but I think they look pretty good.
I like the flag.
Great job Dominic !!!!!
Björn
-
@Bjoern, Prof - How many Sudanese have you painted? If I bring 60 Brits, then according to the rules, we need around 140 Mahdists to have a balanced game.
-

Björn, we have a problem :? i've painted only 8 mahdists
-
Hi,
We dont have a Problem.
We will not have 140 Mahdists.
With a little Luck I will do 60 in total !
20 Fuzzi Wuzzi with Swords 20 Ansar with Swords and 20 With Rifle.
Plus Dominics 20 Spears
Plus your 8
And Grimms Arabs. I know he has some with Rifles.
I know that Dom wants to play with all his Britts, but why not start with smalles numbers ?
An why not make smaller Units. Instead of 20. Maybe 15. That is possible with the Rules.
I dont see any problems :o)
Cheers
Björn

Wow!
OK.
We dont have any problems :)
-
Sounds Great!
With some luck, I will also have another 40 spears painted up by next week.
So with Bjoern's figures, we will have about 120 Mahdists.
Can I interest the Prof to finish 12 more Mahdists to complete his unit?
So, looks like everything will be alright. No problem at all! :D
-
Can I interest the Prof to finish 12 more Mahdists to complete his unit?
i think not, no inspiration at the moment
-
It's OK Prof. I think the Brits will have their hands full with 120 Mahdists!! :D
-
A detachment of the Naval Brigade:

God, I love these, a beautiful unit, Dom, thumbs up, bloody good work!
