I'm throwing some skirmishers out first to provide cover for my legionaries!

Nice shading on those! They look good.
-
It's nice to see Romans that aren't red from heads to toe. Very nice colour palette and excellent painting.
-
Bit different for you mate, something you're not telling us ;)
They look great by the way :D
cheers
James

To be fair, I'm planing on some bright red shields for the legions :D
-
Lovely work on them, janner, keep it coming.
-
Great work there. I am a fan of a muted palette.
-
Superb work on the skirmishers.
-
And some more skirmishers, Numidians this time,

Great looking units - love the choice of colours on the slingers and the shields on the Numidians.
Looking forward to seeing this thread grow.
-
Nice looking figures there.
-
Liking these a lot.

Following another of your threads with interest.
:D

Thanks for the kind comments :)
Well, the first Legion is awaiting the arrival of some steel bases in the post so that I can finish them off. Hopefully they'll turn up this week. In the meantime, some Cretan Archers,
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/Ancients/IMG_1184_zps0325e633.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/Ancients/IMG_1184_zps0325e633.jpg.html)

Love the Cretans!
Pick of the bunch so far, I reckon.
:-*
This is turning into a really good looking force.

Great stuff mate :-*

First batch of 'proper' Romans

Great looking miniatures.
-
Beautiful. I just bought some of these myself in the last Foundry sale. I will use these for reference.
-
Transfers are by VVV. They've a broad variety of styles in various colours :)
-
wow, very nice.
Is this a new army painting challenge?
-
wow, very nice.
Is this a new army painting challenge?
I really should finish the last one first lol lol
-
no rules....
if creativity needs a break and prefers romans, it is as good, don't You think?
isn't it about army.painting. ?
-
I plan to have two units cracked by the end of Jan, but they are a commitment fir a challenge elsewhere. Using the same figures for two painting challenges feels naughty :)
-
and? do You enjoy it! 8)
never mind, I thought it did not matter since the only scope is to get on with one army and we measure only ourselves...
-
What, where, why?!
lol
Looks good!
-
Nice mate :-*
But, basing for WAB? are you feeling OK? lol ;)
cheers
James
-
Looking good, sir!
:-*
The best thing about Romans is those dirty great shields.
Anyone wandering around carrying a door that hides the rest of the figure is a bonus in my eyes.
A good paintjob on the head and shoulders and you can get away with murder on the rest of the little blighter*.
8)
I hope it proves true of Dark Age Gondorians too.
:D
*Which is not the case, I am sure.
;)
-
Nice mate :-*
But, basing for WAB? are you feeling OK? lol ;)
cheers
James
Ah, but WAB basing works for CoE as well :D
-
Excellent work on theses Romans.

Lovely work! They look like stone cold killers, every one of them.
-
Very nicely done, even with the occasional bent pilum! 8)
Cheers,
Scott
-
Is it not the purpose of Pillums to bend?
-
Yes but before the ball part of the weapon.
-
Shhh. I was trying to cheer Janner up...

Ah, it was no major shakes to straighten it and paint it - again… ::)

And the next Legion (I just love the slightly psycho look of the Centurion):

Next up, some more legionaries...
-
Shiny! I'm missing these in my collection yet. Have to get them sooner or later.
-
Nicely done, sir.
8)
I think that it is time for the group shot so far... ;)
-
True, I'll finish the next Legion and then I have my first HC division really for a photoshoot :D

It is shaping up to be an impressive army.

My long ignored Caesarian Roman project received some recent attention.
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/Ancients/IMG_2998_zpswyakixxb.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/Ancients/IMG_2998_zpswyakixxb.jpg.html)

Proper looking veterans, those! And bonus points for your period-correct silver legionary eagles! :)
Cheers,
Scott

I did a bit of research back when I started these, but totally forgot about the Eagle until you mentioned it :D
