Title: Hasslefree female scifi trooper and her ride...
Post by: dwartist on September 24, 2013, 08:11:59 PM
...she's one of the limited run 'Resin Masters' (truly beautiful sculpt and virtually flawless casting) and the vehicle is a 'Hunchback' APC from Antenociti (still a WIP)

You've selected a lovely colour scheme and executed it brilliantly.

I can't get enough of your painting style.  It really is the perfect blend of clean and realistic.  Beautifully done.

Outstanding figure, outstanding paint.

Outstanding Vehicle, outstanding paint.

However...

however...

I mean, really...

That "20 mm cannon" barrel and the overall size of that weapon... I guess they have anti-grav/anti-mass compensators on personal weapons?

I find the gun detracts from an overall excellent presentation.

Gracias,

Glenn

Why, yes, it is my pet peeve...

I like it. The gun could be made of some futuristic composite!

Excellent work again Dwartist

Okay, I doubt it would effect the mass of the weapon (not weight, mass) that much but I can buy that suspension of disbelief delusion.

Bring on the cannon carbines!   lol

Gracias,

Glenn

Aw, just think of it as an automatic Shotgun with a "tacticool" lightweight body. :D

VERY neat painting by the way, love the visor on her!  :-* :-* :-*

Cracking work mate, and great choice of colours.

I didn't like the helmet on that figure when I first saw it, but it looks much better painted.

How do you do it?!?!?  Your work is phenomenal.

You pick these very basic schemes, put a small amount of markings and weathering with zen-like minimalism, and it all ties together perfectly.

What on earth are you doing that makes these minis simply perfect?

Really nice David love the projected HUD on the visor. Good colour palette,  but not keen on the 'HF ' on the boots :)

Just enjoying it.
Me, too, but I don't get the same zen-like perfection you do.

Wish I could watch what you're doing.

Have you made any tutorials?  I'd like to know what you're doing differently.

For example:

Your paint is nice and opaque.  When I use a wash it can clutter up the paint I place over the smudge, even with high-opacity paints like Vallejo.

The shadows in joints (see the shoulder-pads when viewing the mini front-on) are just right.  I try washes, I try darker paints, invariably the transition from the shadowed region to the pad are simply not clean (for me - yours are).

Also, your raised panels, where I would have gotten some ink/wash overflow, are perfectly smooth.  No paint build up.  I would have had some raised areas of paint where I went back to touch-up.  Yours look like they've been airbrushed.  Perfect.  Amazing.

Your edge highlights are clear but subtle.  I can make mine either too clear or too subtle (i.e. not useful).  Do you mix some white with your base-color or do you use another color of paint when you do those?

You have three main gray-ish colors that are totally different.  I am not sure how to re-create that but I can see it.  There's the black base (shoes), a charcoal base (under-clothes), and a light gray base for the over-clothes AND the armor itself, yet one looks solid and the other looks like fabric.  The black, gray, and light gray are all grays but they are somehow totally different.  I don't understand light and color well enough to put this in words, never mind re-create that effect.

Your color choice is incredible.  The camouflage you create....

And your brush control... wow.
