Title: Shadows of Brimstone
Post by: Donpimpom on October 28, 2013, 01:35:00 PM
Just wondering if you, old west lovers, are aware of this
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1034852783/shadows-of-brimstone
and what you think about it

I first saw this on Dakka-Dakka, it looks like a lot of fun. That said, I think the buy-ins are too expensive & the add-ons cost way too much. But I may look into it after its regular release.

I'm in at the Outlaw level, plenty of good stuff to make that worthwhile. As for the add-ons, I suspect you'll be able to buy them at similar or lower prices once it gets out to the stores anyway.

I've pledged just to get updates. Looks good. Sadly as it ends just as I'm buying Xmas presents, I doubt I'll be able to get all I'd like to out of it.

I'm following it at the moment. Gonna have the have to make some hard decisions on my allowance this month.

Curious what Kind of plastic they'll use. also, I'm not to keen on the 35 mm scale. Won't this look off compared to the rest of my collection?
Or is their claim that that would put it in the same size as pp and gw correct?

still, good chances I'll buy it at some point, wheter I back it or not. It looks ubercool.

Checked it almost from the start.

Althoug it seems interesting, the price scalade is like a kick in the theet, IMHO (C'mon, from $325.00 to $475.00, really? and ONLY 25 places for each upgrade? really?).

And at current level, it seems it is CHEAPER to get OUTLAW and BUY all "add ons" rather than pledge the "Mine Cart" level (and of course, you can buy ONLY the addons that you want).

IMO FFP will have to reorganize their pledge levels, or a lot of people will withdraw as the KS approaches its end.

And the 35mm scale is an additional drawback for me too.

Lets see...

Best wishes.

Totally agree with Magokiron. By the time I saw this KS, it was already funded (and then some), and it looks really cool. But the only reason I'd back it is for all the extras - but seeing how they've priced it it puts me off. It just seems... unfair. So I'm just gonna wait till it comes into my FLGS and save on shiping. At this stage they've made plenty of cash off the Kickstarter, so a commercial release seems a dead cert. I'll just live without the extras!

Some of the figures look cool.   Not to interested in what they seem to be selling as an RPG/Boardgame hybrid though.   Also not too interested in the prices at this point.   Almost all of what they are showing is eventually going to be for sale, very little KS exclusive stuff on this one so waiting for actual product to be available and only buying what I want at online discount pricing may very well be the way to go on this one.

I have to agree with the above statements. As things stand pleding for only the outlaw level is by far the best deal, especially if you take into acount all the unlocked stuff that gets added in.

They have just reached the 500k and added some more goals to unlock.
I agree with most of you, IMHO the outlaw level+ a few hand picked addons is the real deal.

I'm not interested in this at all. At 35mm tall they are going to be taller than Black Scorpion and the theme just doesn't grab me.

Looking at the comparison pic they posted with their other board game figures, they won't be bigger than Black Scorpion, they're just more honest about sizes :)

Theme is bang on for me.

I have no idea about how big are the Black Scorpion ones, but they say miniatures are " 35mm to top", so that means 32 to eyes?, considering almost all wear some kind of hat maybe is 30mm to eyes?
As usual you can't be 100% sure until you hold them in your hands  :'(

yup! at the start I was wondering if pledge or not, but I will definitely pledge

A friend recommended this to me - I only pledged (Outlaw Level) last week when it was on $400,000 and the speed it's grown since then has astonished me - this is the first time I've pledged on a Kickstart project so it's been a pleasant surprise.

I'm not a huge fan of board games or dungeon crawls generally, but this one really has piqued my interest, I can't wait until all the goodies arrive. And I was pleased to see the Drifter character was unlocked just yesterday, too. :)

Few days to end and almost reaching  one million $!!!
I hope they will reach it because the 1 million stretch goal rocks  ;D

Assuming this pays of with good miniatures and fun rules which keep you playing, the people who went for the full package deal (mine cart?) at the start are in for a crazy good deal.

I backed at the outlaw level and last time I counted models they where more than 130 miniatures, some of them really big guys, plus additional boards, cards etc. A big bunch of stuff for 150$.
As you said the Mine cart backers will get even much more stuff but I find it a bit excessive for my budget.
Regarding the fun, that company has a good reputation making fun games. There is a loot of game rules explained on the different updates and looks like a nice cooperative dungeon crawler, in a western set, with a bit of Cthulhu.
Definitively is not a game for historical Old West fans.

Give them this, They've listened and put up some distant stretch goals.

2 million is probably the outer edge of possible but, a Train. Normal one side of the tiles and unpleasant the other.

XXL sword wielding Cthulhu addon went up as well today. They said they have several addons planned for each day for the last few days so hopefully the minecart level with sweeten the deal even more.

Would really like to reach the train.

Hadn't even seen this until this thread bubbled up this morning. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I went with the outlaw level, and may do some add-ons too. (Is it my imagination or do some of the stretch goals contain figures that will only work if you buy certain add-ons?) Timing is a little unfortunate so close to the holidays however, so can't go too berserk--maybe that's a good thing  ;)

I think so, if you dont buy the "dimension X" board add-on all the add-on models for the "dimension X" board will be useless, at least as far as I understood.

Would really like to reach the train.
me too, but I think is very hard they duplicate the funds in a so short time, anyway I hope they release it late as a game expansion, this train shape board could be really useful also for rpg games

Just had a look through the stretch goals, the ones that are tied to a particular location are for locations that were earlier stretch goals. From the various posts they've made about game play I get the impression that any of them can be used in the normal game as creatures that have wandered through the 'gates'.

Yep. The only addons that require other addons are the encounter card packs which need the matching Otherworld tile pack.

Any creatures can be added in as having crossed over via a portal.

So the optional add-ons Trederra and the Bastedlands are no mandatory to use the (for instance) Trederran Field Marshal, or the Wasteland Terralisk?
Then I was wrong, much better that way!
ops! new set of add-on maps "Derelict Ship" it looks a bit Even Horizon like.

what I like is depending on the add-ons you can tailor the game at your taste to make it more sci-fi or horror etc

Nope they can be used elsewhere, although they probably occur much more often in their 'home' region.  They are as you said optional add ons though, not stretch goals.

Only a couple of hours left on this one now. Just unlocked a blacksmith ally and on track to unlock a dark stone snake hydra. Really impressed with the final value here especially with the amount of content at the Outlaw level when compared to other kickstarter mini campaigns.
