While i'm waiting for my Zanzibaris and Mahdists, a short stopover in the land of the African Fantasies. Got today the Obelisk minis, ones on the pic and the zombie camel riders too(not yet put together).

I applaud your purchase of so many baboons. You simply can't have too many bad-tempered monkeys. What scenario can't be improved by the addition of a troop of baboons?
Oh, and:

I have those too :o)

Yes, Pete, exactly, you can't have enough of monkeys. I'm glad you recognized this, God will be happy with you :)
-
Those Baboons look super neat! I´ve also got a pack of the Amazons at Crisis and am currently painting them as a hunting party to track dinosaurs et al...
By the way, don´t the Baboons give a whole new meaning to the phrase "spank the monkey"? ;)
-
If you want some background for baboon behavior for your games, you could read "Almost Human" by Shirley Strum, or "Sex and Friendship Among Baboons" by an author whose name I can't remember. Well, maybe not... unless you're an anthropology student...

The first baluchi zombie!
Not sure...do you think he need eyes?

Maybe green balls, glowing with eerie light from within (ie, jade green base highlighted up with white)? Just take care his stare doesn´t look like a mint 50s Cadillac afterwards. :D
Great painting, though, as usual.[/quote]

HMMM I am not sure if I like him I think he dosen´t look like a Zombie I missd rust on his sword and his clothes are to shiny.
He need dead eyes also.
the technics are grate like every time you make a figure so don´t be angry .
sorry Grimm

Don't need to sorry Grimm, I don't mind critic :)
The sword is rusty, bit I guess now not enough rusty.
Clothes are maybe too clean, I thought it too, I will try it with some darker tones next time

Very nice! Also dirty enough and with an evil stare!
-
much better
-
next one.
i think white clothes of the first one had better contrast to the rest

-
Yup, those white flimsies provide for better contrast - the bone colour/off white is a bit nondescript for my taste.

Is it me or does the last one indeed look like (an undead) James Brown?
"Get on the scene - liche a sex machine!"

Great job on that zombie! One problem--it doesn't look very lifelike. Nobody would believe that was ever alive at any point.

What a pity! And i was really proud with unshaved efect...

I missd rust on his sword
It never rains in California -
and it doesn't rain in the savannas or deserts of Africa (maybe once in 50 years) - so there couldn't be a lot of rust but I really agree it looks better (suiting a zombie more) when the weapons are aged!
Nevertheless THEY LOOK GREAT :o and really hit the point. The skin color is excellent (thank god not the barf green of the usual zombies :D ) - the only critical comment I have here (although I couldn't find a suitable solution myself when painting these minis :? ) is the red flesh showing in spots where the skin's been eaten away.
Imagine they have been lying in the desert for years and been dried out (therefore the bones could have a minimal highlight of bleached bone - as dried bones are nearly white) like pemikan (but what color has pemikan to show the difference between dried skin and dried flesh????? :?: on the models)
THANKS for the first minis I've done being painted THAT way !
Perhaps now people can imagine better how they could look like!

And as well thanks for the great pic of JB. He really looks fantastic and I think I will do him with the next bunch of zombies

Thanks, Bob, glad you like them!

Exactly, i'm not mad about too. Looks just wrong. Will repaint the places, maybe some light ochre/brown tones or similar

And finally the "official" Zombies photos :)

Well folks, it's a great pleasure for me to announce that my efforts to bring new and interesting miniatures to the gaming world haven't been in vain!
See for yourself:
And there will be more to come. In the next days the new pics for the december releases (the reworked hyenas, elite amazones and the Sun Valley Bulldog babes) will be ready in the shop - it all takes a while - Obelisk is a pure one-man-show.
Cheers,
Josef Ochmann

Well done Josef  a well earned award may 2007 see even more success
-
Congratulations, Josef, you deserve the award!!!
-
Congratulations, Josef! You're in excellent company, and you should be proud of your reward!
-
Congratulations from me, too!!
Now, could I persuade you to make some traditional arab bedouins - both mounted and on foot - perhaps also in a 'dead' condition?
I need such minis for my pulp project, and I have only found some foot bedouins at Brigade so far... no bedouins on fine purestrain arab horses or camels

Keep on the good work :)
