Title: Steam walker finished!
Post by: Geudens on May 27, 2008, 05:08:29 PM
Here it goes: the legs were taken from an Airfix T-Rex walker, the body is a large metal barrel from the old Megablocks range, the smokestack (top part of) a ballpen, the drum (containing fuel...) below the smokestack a 1/48 WWII spare, the gun is made of three pieces of plastic tube fitted into each other and the windows are small washers.

I intend to hang a few rucksacks from the top rim of the body as well as a chain with hooks on the ends to hoist ammo etc through the top hatch and fit full drums of fuel to the body (there is supposed to be a lid in the side of the drum that fits a trapdoor in the back of the body, but this one can't see when a drum is fitted off course...).

Although I have several Airfix T-Rexes, I also need'm for my SF games, so I glued a bolt (fitting exactly into the hole in the centrepiece of the legs) to the bottom of the walker's body and secured it with a nut (as you may notice in the pics).  That way I cannot only swivel the body on the legs, but also replace it with the original T-Rex cockpit for SF gaming (2 models for the price of one!).

Hope you like it.

I am not familiar with the original kit but I do like this. In fact I like your top half better than the legs. Great stuff

THx! Really?... You make me blush...  :-*

The legs are "as supplied": they are "click together" so that you can position the model as you wish: great for a knocked down one during a game!

I like it, Rudi, it's a great piece and I like those legs, they look right for some reason, not too high-tech, just perfect for a engineering wonder  :)

Hey, that's a nice walker! The use of the nut and bolt gives an even more "tech" look to it. :o  ;)
Excellent job! Keep it up!  :D

Swell work! Only tiny little bit of nagging, the pose is a little bit too dynamic for VSF, but since you can repose the legs, that should be no problem.

That sand camo looks nice and warm as well.

thank you all, guys!  Chris, it may indeed stand higher on its legs, but this pose just worked better for the photoframe.

Thx, PM! Actually, there is no "scheme" as such, but it is painted along the lines of the fast paint system Johan (also on this list and a longstanding friend) and I have developped.

Not to highjack my own topic, I've started a new one, describing the method:
