Yes indeed one more project are starting up:)
This time I have convinced my Danish friend Søren that it was a very good ideea to run a Scanian War project. I hope to manage to lure Jonas and maybe some other club member in to the project to...
We have decided not to run the big battler like Lund in 1676 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lund) or Landskrona in 1677 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Landskrona) but to go for some more Low intense warfar in the nothern part of Scania i.e. Guerilla warfare by the Danish Free shooter or Snapphanar. (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/2013/11/his-majestys-freeshooters-of-denmark.html) as they was called in Sweden
The main reasons was to be able to start it all up as small skirmish games using the exellent Muskets and Tomahawks rules. Love them but as usual I always try to find the Swedish angle;)
I have looked around the webb and there are several minis that may work as Swedes during this period, but sins I wanted to hold down the cost I decided to retrive my first Wargames Factory minis ever...

Plain marching mini from the box, as I want my unit to have the Karpus hat I had to cut down a grenadier hat to fit the bill, I hope it will turne out ok when painted.

One more marching mini there I just cut away the musket and promoted him to and NCO
You are very welcome to follow our Scanian War project at my blog. (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/search/label/Scanian%20War)
You can find a Short re-cap of the war here (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/2013/11/scanian-war-1675-1679.html)

You really do pick out some interesting and (for me) unheard of conflicts 8)
Looking forward to seeing progress :)
cheers
James
-
Glad to get you interested in some Swedish history james:)
You might have heard of this conflict by the name "Franco-Dutch War 1672-1678 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Dutch_War)" as the Scanian War was a part of that war.

Swedish Pikemen

I have recently started researching for a gaming project in the same war. I was going to use warlord games pike and shotte swedes. But I am struggling to find suitable figures for the Danish Snaphaner or Gøngerne as they are called in Denmark. I was going to base it around a horrible Danish/Swedish miniseries called Gøngehøvdingen from the late 80ies. And make a swashbuckling skirmish.
-
Nice that you are going for some Gøngehøvdingen action.
I supouse you are aiming at the Dano-Swedish War (1657–58)if so the Warlord plastics would be perfect for the swedes.
As for the Snapphanar I would use Warlords Dragoons mixed up with the clubmen and other ragtag minis, I consider to use them if I want to get me some Snapphanar for our project.
But for now I let my friend Sören make that force, for his first units he used some perry ECW minis, you can se a very nice picture of them at his blog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dano-Swedish_War_(1657%E2%80%9358))
Looking forward to see more of your project.

Michael....... >:(
Where do you find the time to do all this ?....
Please, please ,please, stop tempting me....
The Scanian war is such a colourful period, one that has been on my to do list for a while..
Have you looked at North Stars 1676 range ? I think there are some usefull figures there.
Do you have Aberg & Goransson,s book Karoliner? There are some nice plates showing the earlier uniforms..
I shall follow you with interest...
Keep up the good work. :)
All the best. Aly
-
I´ll try to keep up the good and fast paced work Aly ;)
Seems like I manage to ge a few minutes left over after fulltimework, wife 2 children and a house to care fore :)
Glad to heare that the Scanian War seems to be a bit known outside Sweden, thought everyone focused on the GNW.
I have had a look at the North Stars 1676 range that are realy nice but the poses are to static for skirmish games but they would work very nice if I ever would go for a bigger project during this era.
The Aberg & Goransson,s book Karoliner have a given place in my library, indeed lots of good pictures in that book, even in Swedish I think every one that are planing to run the Scanian war or of course a GNW project need it.
Best regards Michael
-
Of course the other great book to have is Lars Eric Hoglund,s book The Scanian War, it seems to have everything you need to know about the Swedish army in one place ( I appear to have mislayed my copy ....just when I would enjoy a little browse ).
Finding info on the Danish and Brandenburg forces has always the difficult part for me :?
You should try and teach your children to paint toy soldiers , with two extra helpers you could have many armies at your disposal..... ;) (I tried this with my daughter .... But failed :(... She decided that a career as a graphic designer was more profitable lol)
All the best. Aly

God Morning
The Höglund book are realy well researced, indeed a must if you are going for the Scanian War.
The Danes I at the moment leve to my Danish Co partner in the project Sören (http://blackpowdergames.blogspot.se/), but the best sourse for the Danes I suppouse you already have, if not you can download it here: DANISH UNIFORMS, COLOURS AND STANDARDS 1675-1679 (http://www.cybercyde.co.uk/images/danish/Danish%20Army%201675-79.pdf)
I have good hope for the 4 year son, he have shown interest in the gaming part so far, and i hope he will enjoy tha painting to, the 10-year daughter have painted some minis in a very good way , but dont realy have the intrest, she more in to drawing.
Best regards Michael

As I´m from the region Dalarna/Darlecarlia in Sweden I of course will paint my Scanian War infantry as the Dalregementet/Darlecarlian Regiment. Also Sören was kind enought to get me a greate looking flag from Warfare Miniatures.
This is how I will paint the uniform for the Dalregimentet, even as this pictury probably are of a GNW soldier from Älvsbors regiment (no bayonetts for the swedes during the Scanian war.)
Here are a alternative Karpus, as mine are made of cut down grenadier caps
I think mine will be more like this one...

Red facons - Got it ;)
-
Thanks !!!
Red facons - Got it ;)
Sorry but I seems to have missed the english class when they talked about "facons" is it the facings you refers to or the fethers?
For your GNW Dalregemente neither should be red. Facings should be Yellow (They only used Red until about 1680).
Best regards Michael
-
Yeah, sorry, my key board was set to another language. So the autocorrect decided to play with my mind!
Facings is the correct answer :D
