I've recently painted a few totally unrelated minis. Well, not totally unrelated, I mean they are not part of any coherent project, just fancied painting them. The first one is this Champion of Khorne:
I tried to experiment and replace golden tones by yellows. The pic is awful, but as it now looks better than how it was previously painted, I'm satisfied for the moment.
I also painted this other guy, the classic Demon Hunter:
I have an issue with cameras, I simply can't take damn proper pics :'(
(http://i39.tinypic.com/108i82r.jpg)
I promise they are actually better than they appear here! :-[
As I was using red and yellow, I rescued this toy of old, which appeared where I couldn't expect in some forgotten corner. As soon as I saw it again, I knew I had a perfect Ferrobeast for RT games (Go check the rulebook!):
So that's it for the moment, I'll be posting some other things I still have to paint or repaint (tons of pending work!).
They also can be seen here:

Coolio 8)
cheers

Looks good! I think the pictures look ok. The reds are a bit dull, but I also always have problems photographing reds :?
I think the Khorne champion is a Fantasy miniature, but still looks great for Rogue Trader.
Ferro Beast is great! I plan to find one at some poit too.
-
A few guys more. One for all, all for one :D:

Don't really fancy the Emperor's Children colour scheme. I spotted that on the internet and copied it, but it doesn't look as cool as I desired :(
I would have like to get the four Jes Goodwin renegades, but well, this is what I got, not weeping at all over it ;).

I have some Slaaneshi patiently waiting for me and my brushes. Soon... Soon...
-
Looking good.
They may not me the original traitor marine sculpts but they are very nice all the same.
-
Lovely work there. I :-*love :-* that Plague Marine. And nice to have a buddy for the Khorne Champion in the first post. I love these old Chaos Marines but have none. :'(
Guess that's this years ebay project for me. :D
-
It's Blaster Master! I love that old Techno Blessing fig. He was from the ROC D1000 mutation table! :D
Lovely paints on all of them. The 'classic four' chaos Legionnaires turned out wonderfully and I've always had a soft spot for that old Inquisitor.
-
Lots of lovely old stuff :)
I painted three Reaper Bones "Oxidation Beasts" as Ferro Beasts last weekend, but yours has that Gygax seal of approval ;)
That old Nurgle Renegade is a great model too. The Goodwin Plague Marine is a classic, but that old pointing guy is a favourite of mine too. My version of that guy squelched out of many a Rhino hatch back in the old days.
Didnt GW release the four of those classic Chaos Marines as a set about a year or so ago? EDIT: Yes they did. "Traitors of Chaos (LINK) (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1710124a)", still available. All four for €29, which is cheap as GW goes these days. Finecast too, obviously.
-
Thank you all! I have a soft spot for these RT-ish minis, it is almost the only 40K stuff driving my attention; I'll try to keep on going!

Wooow! That toy you found, knew ive seen it somewhere before ... I had one just like it as a kid, got it from a pack of "prehistoric animals" or something along those lines :) awesome find, nostalgia gold!
-
Yeah, that's right! It came with a lot of dinosaurs! Oh, wow, it's funny to share this kind of memories... :)
-
That plastic toy was the inspiration for the d&d rust monster!!! Good find :)
-
I have that old Rust Monster toy and the other plastic "dinosaurs" that inspired some of the original monster manual entries. Great repaint on yours.
-
The old Chaos fellas are simply lovely. Great paintwork.
-
More Chaos! More RT love! Well, the first mini is not strictly RT, but I'll ask for your indulgence.
I have quite a bunch of Emperor's Children Renegades of old. It was time to reorganize them and make them playable, not just random minis. So the first thing to do was expand the army (yes, always expand! ;D). I have not been able to paint this noise marine in the psychodelic 80's colours. I've tried everything and I just can't. So I've painted him in he same colours than the other minis I have. Ladies and Gentlemen... Roy & the Daemonettes!
Oh, the guy is in need of someone for the chorus, right?
While I paint the rest and make up the squads, I'll leave you with the man not ashamed to ride a blue mount:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/02/roy-daemonettes.html
You can bet, a Slaaneshi warband is on the go...
-
Brilliant stuff! Especially the slaaneshi rider. Always loved that one.
-
I love the new additions! :-*
-
Absolutely mega stuff. I do love the huge-claws daemonettes! Keep up the good work!
-
Great stuff!
apparently the plastic stuff that were the inspiration for the D&D monsters go for crazy prices on Ebay.

For the observant Dollar-store denizen these can still be found scattered in "prehistoric animal" sets. Apparently old plastic molds never die on China. I purchased some sets as recently as last year that contained Bulettes, Rocs, Su beasts and Disenchanters. In fact the boxed set that the author shows in that link can be had at Rite-Aid drugstores here in the USA.
-
Thank you! I'm back with the rest of the Warband. I had painted several of these some time ago, so I just painted some new additions in the same palette and reorganized them. Let's see the first squad:
The whole squad looks like this:
The second squad is leaded by a guy you already saw in other colours:
I found I had this guy, so he was clearly meant to be the leader:
Finally, the Noise Marines. Beacuse any Slaaneshi Army needs one band!
The whole Warband has this aspect:

A few more comments can be found here:

Well, they now must be seen rocking around the galaxy!
-
Great stuff here !!!! :)
-
And now for some Imperial love! I determined myself to reset my Ultramarines and make something worthy of them.
I tried the most RT-ish lookings I could achieve, and so I tried. But when I thought I was on the right way, I realized I was making a mistake. The weapons. Too much black was drawing attention from the whole mini. I made some experiments:
Beige was finally the best option. Soooo beige it was:
It fits every weapon imaginable!
This was a Captain, I believe, but he will be the Sergeant for this squad, I'm afraid:
The whole squad looks this way:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/03/ultramarines-rt-squad.html#comment-form
Don't know when I'll do another squad, but I promise some shark mouths...
-
Awesome! Your freehand is excellent!
-
Excellent. Love the beige guns. They look fantastic. :D
-
Lovely work! 8)
-
Thank you! I was a little unsure about the colours, but they don't look that bad (and I promise, they look better in the flesh, my pics are awesomely crappy :-[)
-
Thats a cool looking squad, as 80s as a Rubiks cube.
-
It's been a long time since I don't take this project back to life, so about time!
I had these metal guys:
So I added some plastic beakies in order to muster another squad:
I've tried some special marks on the 'Ultra' symbology, as well as the traditional weapon designation marks. Besides, I've recovered the sharkies :D
(http://i57.tinypic.com/11vmkgn.jpg)
So this is the Squad!
Besides, I got a Mk.I Termie (hooray!)
Didn't paint him strictly RT style (you know, the helmet), but I think it still makes a deal. I should look for a Mk.II in order to finish the Termie squad I have.
You have the complete process here:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/11/ultrasharks.html
I should see what comes next (and try no not spend half a year thinking about it...)
-
I really like the terminator :-*
-
:-*
Spechmarines aren't my thing. But those beakies and v1 termie are hot!!
Cheers
Matt.
-
Stunning stuff!
That squad is excellent, but the Termie is the nuts.
:-* :-*
So many good RT threads at the moment makes me want to play too.
8) 8)
-
Thank you all!
I wasn't really sure that the termie was going to work; let's face it, the mini is... well... should say distinctive ;D. I might endure my search of a Mk.II, finish the squad and see if they all work together.
-
I really like the terminator :-*
I really, really, really, really, really, like the terminator.
-
I'm lovin' it!!!
-
Excellent work!
-
Fantastic stuff!
-
Thank you all! I find the RT stuff quite rewarding to paint. I scarcely play the game anymore, but whenever I do I still enjoy the whole concept of it :)
-
Bringing the thread back to life. :P I had these guys lost in a box for ages. Time to do some justice to them! Quite a speedpaint, didn't want to spent that much time (you'll see in a few days, these are not the only minis I've been painting!):
This last one was a little dull, no Crozius Arcanum whatsoever, so I added a banner.
This is how the badass guys in the Chapter look like when they go out for beers:
Here is the blog link :):
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/mib-marines-in-black.html
Some more stuff incoming soon!
-
Old School Space Marines always bring a smile to my face. I never played Rogue Trader, but I do love the look of those older GW sculpts.
-
Thank you!
The thing is that, when I opened the box in which I knew I had the Chaplains (and some Apothecaries and Techmarines which I haven't painted yet) I found more minis I didn't remember I had! :? I found a stash of Orks and Beakies (hooray!). So a sudden idea came to mind. What if my Chaplains had full squads of Field Police under their command? ;). I frenzied over the beakies and this is what I got:
I bought them long time ago here at LAF and (shame on me) I had relegated them to a box. They have interesting conversions on a few bolters to make them look like flamers. I painted the tanks in green to suggest they actually are web guns (which may make sense if the Field Police Squad is trying to capture fugitives alive).
An example of a Squad:
The Field Police was never developed beyond the illustration in the RT book, as far as I know. In my mind it makes sense them being the law enforcers within the Chapter, the most gifted eventually becoming Chaplains themselves.
You can find them on the blog:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/someone-called-police.html?m=0
You will see them in action quite soon! ;)
-
Love your Chaplains, but those Field Police are something else! I can just imagine those naughty Marines kicking back in a local bar after a hard day on the battlefield, insulting the locals and getting into a rather nasty brawl. The barman runs into the street, yelling for help. A look of relief comes over him as a squad of Field Police come jogging round the corner... ;)
-
Only to see the bar get levelled in the struggle by the Field Police to arrest the boozed up superhumans... (Really, those rank and file brothers! Get a few beers in them and they think they're super-superhuman....)
I love your retro-paintjobs, brilliant stuff! The Field police are an especially nice touch. And the Humpty-dumptynator is great! Don't know why, but I just love that design.
I've got a few squads of RT marines in a stash somewhere, but I'm afraid to start on them, mostly because I can't decide what chapter to do them... :( (I want to do them in a nice and retro chapter, but not Crimson Fists, although, I would like to do the Rynn's world campaign, so then they... and the circle goes round and round. I do have Marneus-on-the-loo, so I might as well go Ultras?)
-
Brilliant!
Gorgeous retro eye candy.
Love it!
:-* :-*
-
Nice! Always liked the field police.
-
Keeps getting better, great work :-*
-
Love the Field Police! I always thought they were an interesting idea from back then, but GW never ran with it. Kind of like Commisar training squads, human bombs, and whiteshields.
Nice painting! I'm not a big fan of the old models (even though I was), but I always enjoy well painted RT stuff. The Slaaneshi warband makes me want to redo my old Death Guard (or Dusk Raiders). Chaos warbands were always a lot of fun.
Nice stuff!
-
This thread is filled with awesome.
-
Thank you all! :) The idea of the Field Police had been wandering around my mind for some time, it just was the right moment to execute it, I guess.
I had a game using these (2nd Ed. with house rules); I'm currently writing the AAR for the blog, I hope I'll be posting it over the forum in a few days :).
-
I had these guys pending, a couple of Apothecaries and Techmarines ;). I could have painted them blue with touches in white or red, but I really prefer the whole armour colour scheme:
As I enjoyed doing the Chaplain banner, I did another one for the Apothecary. A robed skeleton walking on ashes holding the Helix while he opens his robe with the other hand and shows a beating heart (I'm explaining so you understand what you are seeing :D )
For the Techmarines I thought of making some backpacks with tentacles, servoarms and stuff, but I'm too lazy and they are a mess for storage. So nope.
The shoulderpad is the white hand, the emblem of both the Techmarines and the Uruk-Hai
I dared to do another banner. But these guys wouldn't like a robed skeleton, I needed another approach, some tech geek looking stuff...
Though I ike the concept, I'm not satisfied with the result. Being the first one I do, it's enough, but I may redo it...
Here are they all:
And here you have them on the blog:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.de/2015/04/apothechmarines.html
Hmmm... Now I need a field hospital and a vehicle repairing bay... :D
-
I finally finished my Terminator Squad, thanks to this eBay elusive turtleback marine:
With him, the Vintage Squad looks like this:
I tried to add a banner pole to the Sergeant mini, but I didn't find a way of sticking it. I begun this banner, which maybe would need to be redone...
Anyway, as I have plans of adding another more orthodox Terminator Squad, I still may use the design...
For the moment, this is it!
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/12/turtlemarine.html
-
Best Terminator squad ever!
8) 8)
I love those old suits and you have both of the best versions.
You lucky boy!
:D
-
Love it, old school Rogue Trader flavour, feels like 1987 again !!
