Title: Squad action in Gloire (and .45 Adventure and Fantastic Worlds)
Post by: Operator5 on June 03, 2008, 04:52:37 PM
Well, someone brought up squad action so I have posted my initial thoughts on the topic over on the Speakeasy.

The rules are a work in progress so thoughts are welcome. It works with the current archetypes and can be used with any of the systems.

Check them out here The Speakeasy Forum Topic (http://www.rattrapproductions.com/speakeasy/viewtopic.php?p=6756#6756).

Rich
It looks like a very interesting development on the Hordes of Mooks and adds a whole new dimension to the game. I will definitely give it a try.

Looks very nice to me. Now you can easily include larger amounts of miniatures in the game(s) without bogging down the pace. And sometimes you want lots of extras for the heroes to wade through  :)

Thanks for that - I feel an idea coming on... ;)

If anyone tries the rules out, I would love to hear how they work and any tweaks you make to them. Once I have had a chance to really run them through their paces, I'll probably put them up as a free download.

Looks like some practicable ideas. Many thanks for posting them. Definitely I'll try them with my Napoleonic version of Gloire.

Just remember, squad on squad will probably be fairly accurate, but a hero on squad will look like the hero is wading through them like he's scything down a wheat field.

These games are still about the heroics and pulp nature of the story.

That's what it was meant to be. In detail, I have a scenario on my mind in which "someone who isn't Sharpe" has to rescue some scouts, before a French patrol (led by a higher grade officer) can capture them. I'm thinking about a special rule, which will allow the French player to bring his squad back onto the table every time he looses them, simulating the arrival of other alerted patrols just in time.

I want to put my British and German trench raiders through their paces, and this looks like just the job..... ;)

I want to try a couple of Hero types v Squads (y'know, Tom, Harry - off you pop across no man's land, like couple of good chaps and bring us back a prisoner).

I'll let you know how it goes.

May I ask for an update with the changed rules from your FIW experience? Namely I'm not sure, where to insert this:

Quote
1) In close combat instead of using the 3-4 group, the unit will get the 5-6 as long as they have that many attacking models.

Thanks in advance. :)

Okay, I edited my initial post over on the Speakeasy with some of the rules changes.

But here is where that line gets added:

-If a squad is attacking a solo model in close combat, it can only use the 5-6 column for its BLADE and WS (this represents not every model being able to get in and attack). The squad must have at least 5 models or else it uses the lower 3-4 column.
