Title: ideas for Tron Legacy minis
Post by: Commander Vyper on December 14, 2013, 10:40:51 PM
Ok looking for cyber-zen inspired minis. Clu's guard, programs and ISOs etc... thought about:

.

Any other ideas? Generally unarmed, or at least one handed weapons or close combat. Civilians too.

Aren't the humans from Dreadball supposed to be Tron inspired? The mvp's are. I'd post pics but I'm on the move.

I'd say there have to be quite a number of fitting models in the Infinity range. Basically, everyone that wears a fancy one-piece sci-fi suit ;)

As mentioned already the humans from Dreadball will work (that's how I'll be painting them up), but also the newer Asterian team also has TRON-inspired suits. The heads on the Asterians aren't too good, imho. Dreadball minis are on the small side, so finding a head-swap in scale will be tricky. I've seen an attempt with Eldar guardian heads but they look too big to me.  I'm not sure what will work, but if anyone thinks of a good idea, I'd love to see it!

Finally, these figures are made from PVC plastic, which if you care about removing mold lines, are an absolute pain to work with. Each human Dreadball figure is taking me 7-10 hours to clean. I am a bit OCD, though, so ymmv. I have had to painstakingly resculpt most of the recessed indentations between armor plates because of the inexact spin-casting method these figures are made with. Shallow inset detail can easily be lost. That has increased my clean-up time dramatically, but I really want them to turn out right.

More 32mm than 28mm aren't they?

Yup picked uo on infinity and Hansa re: hasslefree. Anything else spring to mind?

Hassle free or statuesque female headswop and a black or white plus neon pj would make a nice programme or iso.

Not sure Jim... looking at my love of cyber zen and the potential for rolling the matrix, deus ex and this into one techno buddhist zen descarté utopian theme. ;)

I thought about this fleetingly and had the notion to use some "dollies" with head swaps and just do a paint job on them. Also lots of heroclix "lycra" clad miniatures that may be suitable with a paint job?

I have some paint that react to UV light with different color response: they should be PERFECT for tron miniatures. You can just have your table exposed to Wood Lights (they are quite cheap!) and have a REAL tron setting!!!

Bought at the end of November so on the way.  ;)

I suppose I'm looking from my perspective at three layers (of suffering). The real (organic existence,  die here you die etc.. plus Ior minus squidy robots of death. The matrix/system, (laws of physics don't apply, whoaa factor, sentient programmes requiring 'hosts' death is not permanent) and finally the source (Tron, ISO's sentient programs, data monks, factual worlds, gladiatoral combat death here is final. daft punk playing etc...).

Or at least that's the thinking so far. It could work. Almost like a decartes vision of inception where the brains in jars shift from organic to shared organic/digital to true digital.

Not sure if androidsdo dreamof electric sheep, but this will keep me up for a good few nights working it out. ;)

Erm no, actually.

Ordered a few heroclix supers for some bodysuits. Headswops should work well. Checked my deadzone box and crappy little goblin chap so will need to order a couple of minis.

I suppose plastic eldar guardians might work with Headswops too.

These would make great heads for CLU's Sentry or black guard if you filled in the mouth area. Got them somewhere will need to dig them out.

The hunt continues for a good body donor.

If you're looking at Eldar then the Dark Eldar Wyches may be your best bet for starting figures. The flesh can just be painted as a different part of the body suit.

And the Forge World Corsairs may be a good start for the drop troops.

I dont think that anyone has suggested this yet, but surely no miniature TRON project - Legacy or otherwise - is complete without this Hasslefree figure:

Possibly not consistent with the rather stern sounding techno buddhist zen descarté utopian (TBZDU) tone that you described, but I know that I couldnt resist sticking a fat guy with a 'tache in the middle of it all.

Heh.  That model makes me laugh  lol

As mentioned already the humans from Dreadball will work (that's how I'll be painting them up), but also the newer Asterian team also has TRON-inspired suits.

I recently painted my DB Asterians (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/zegema-beach-zephyrs-dreadball-asterian-team/)in a quick, not-too-fiddly TRON-ish scheme.

The heads are goofy, but they are separate on the restic models.  There are metal models in the Asterian DB range (the team booster pack is all metal), but the castings that I got were usable, but not great.

The humans are all restic and all a bit goofy in pose IMO.  Either or both teams could definitely work in your TBZDU context, but you will have your patience tested by the restic for sure, particularly on the humans (made with an earlier restic formula and .

I'll have to grab it on dvd.

I have seen a number of episodes.  Its not bad, but its not really great either.  Definitely required viewing if you are planning a project like this though.

How are your OSL skills Mark (mine are non-existent)?  This sounds like a project to hone them on.  Its an ambitious, but very cool sounding project overall.  Good luck :)

Not sure if you're planning on adding vehicles or not, but I just stumbled across a Tron Lightcycle paper model. For some reason it's a rar file, rather than a zip, but something like 7-zip will open it. No idea what size it is, but you should be able to scale it to suit your needs.

http://aliens.humlak.cz/aliens/aliens_papirove_modely/bonus_models/tron/cycle/tron.rar

It looks like you can still get the diecast vehicles at places like amazon. However, there are at least two sizes available. One is not too bad for 28mm, the other is way too big.
