Title: Wargaming Moments of the Year
Post by: shandy on December 28, 2013, 12:12:49 PM
So, what were the highlights of your wargaming year? Like, your most memorable victory, your worst defeat etc.
I made a short list on my blog: http://wargamingraft.wordpress.com
Want to share your moments?
Cheers,
Shandy

Playing our first ACW campaign using our own rules after about two years of testing and writing was a highlight for me.

Attending BLAM 2013 and meeting many of the LAF luminaries was perhaps my highlight of the year (you know who you are!). I also got to use Captain Blood's superb WotR figures; play on Silent Invader's Scavenge, Skirmish, Survive table; play on Thunderchicken's Victorian table; and see Matakishi's Shadowman table. The only downsides were I missed seeing Mason and playing Strange Aeons and I had to leave early.

My mate Geoff managing to play a Carpe Diem card and THREE Strong Arm cards in one go, reducing my army to a gibbering wreck in one go during his first game of Dux Brit!

having a regular opponent who is always up for a game. Solid gold that is.
Oh yes...

I second that. When I restarted wargaming, I was not sure my potential opponent would be willing, so I already read books on solo wargaming. However, I have no real interest in playing alone (which is why most computer games bore the hell out of me), so I am really glad my partner enjoys gaming as much as I do.

For me ... having moved to a new city, meeting a regular gaming opponent that I can invite over for games. That was my highlight.   :D

One epic defeat....

Losing a battle without causing a single hit, never mind a casualty in return in my club VWQ campaign    :'(

Haha... ;D

Played epic space marine and hero clixs with my oldest grandson for the first time. He is excited about playing with Grandpas toys  :-* and is a quick study. Unfortunatly he lives in New Jursey  :-[

Just today found a new adult acquaintance who is interested in gaming. This is awesome since I just moved here a year ago and had not found anyone until today who was even remotely interested.

That moment when I decided to commit to playing Pulp Alley, my first new wargame in over a decade.

Going to Salute for the first time runs a close second to attending BLAM

I wish.......................................perhaps it's me.

No real highlights this year though I was pleased with the way our Ridgeway and Return to Ridgeway tables looked.

Finally getting our Pulp Alley game released, after 3 years of development, was pretty incredible.

But even more incredible has been the wonderful response from the players. As a game designer, seeing folks playing your game and having fun is about as cool as it gets.

Including our own, we’ve seen 90 Pulp Alley battle reports posted to LAF this year. And I think that’s pretty damn cool as well -- http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=54250.0

HAVE FUN

Participating in Horisont V was nice, but my best gaming-related moment in 2013 was earlier today (well, yesterday) at about 3 pm, when after finishing covering the 80 sq.m. garage attic floor in 15 mm plywood boards for using the room for gaming purposes (and some mini-cons), I had arranged the gaming tables with chairs and put up an old piece of furniture which is going to serve as the bar in my man-cave.

It was just one of those moments where all the lines seem to converge....  :-*
