Post by: Ignatieff on June 06, 2008, 03:36:46 PM
Paint still drying, not quite finished yet, but this is a phenomenal model.  Completely compatible with Copplestone/HLBS

Force of Arms: www.forceofarms.co.uk   I met the guy at Partizan, and he's a really lovely guy.  He doesnt have a great website, but the car is listed on the 1919-39 sheets.  Its a pity there arent more pics, as I'm sure a lot of this stuff would be compatible.  Worth getting a few more methinks!

Wish I could paint like that.

So do I.  I can paint vehicles, but I'm afriad I pay others to paint the figures ;)

well, impressive job on that car!

btw, I just discovered on the first pic a slogan. Actually it's WW2 one and means "Crush the Fascist Creature" :) If the car is going to be a White Russians one , it would need only a small correction, swap from fascist to red

so:
Бей красную гадину!

Prof

I dont know where I would be without you!

The decal is from Brents Coy B lot, and it was from a 'Red' decal sheet, so I knew I was playing with fire on this one.  Thank you for letting me know.  I was kind of hoping it was a 'save the motherland' type of thing, but not surprised that its not.

By the way, do you know anyone who does white decals, and preferably ones that are a wee bit more robust than these ones (they are pretty flimsy and rub off very easily).

thanks

Now I recognize that. I've already told to Brent about his slogans, it's not his fault, unfortunately he had some bad advisers. Unfortunately never heard of anyone else making RCW decals.

No worries, it will happen eventually......

Hi Ignatieff,

Great model you have painted up. Love the extra detail you have gone into. I'm a real fan of armoured cars which have loads of character.

John Bruce of Force of Arms is a lovely fellow and I've many a model from him and no complaints. Actually, this armoured car will fit right into a new period being developed by Anglian miniatures on the Italo-Abbyssinia campaign.

Prof, I did send Lon a magazine article from WI on Soviet slogans for WW2 to be forwarded to Brent to make up if he so wished. Anyway its good that we have you here!  8)

Hi Helen

Good news re the article.  There is a big market out there for this stuff.  Just hope whoever does it does it with somewhat more physically robust decals.  Mine on the AC shown have already rubbed off (after 6 hours).

I will however keep the faith.

we have 4 new sheets of RCW decals in progress.  two sheets for Armored cars (red and white) and two sheets for armored trains (red and white)

The only Russian decals we have right now are all WW2...   So not very usable, unless you are absolultey sure no one in your group speaks Russian (and Alex is not watching!)

Alex is actually helping with the translations of the new sets.  The biggest issue is getting the correct fonts, and then finding someone to print it!

The new sets will all be silkscreened though.  So the same quality of any of the WW2 sets for vehicles (most of which are 7 layers of ink plus a clear transfer ink layer)

Ignatieff, send me your address and I'll send you a sample set when they are ready.

That's a really nice model and a lovely paint job too. Not used in teh RCw to the best of my knowledge but I must get one for some interwar Italians. I've long been planning some opposition for Bagnold's boys in the early mid thirties.

Absolutely agree with any positive comment on John. Really nice guy and yes his website could do with an update.
However, if you want to see some more pictures of his stuff go to Great Hall Miniatures' site. Most of the SCW vehicles- and figures- have a picture here.

BTW love that Lancia. I got one at Salute this year but will certainly buy some more.

From what I know, the Germans used a number of Lancia Armoured Cars on the Eastern Front (which they had captured from the Italians). I´ve got a picture of a German Armoured Car squadron including at least one Lancia somewhere. So it would not be totally unrealistic for the Russians to capture some "third hand", so to speak, but I agree that I do not own proof on that.

On the other hand, the Russians bought numerous Italian-made car chassis for armoured car construction (mainly Isotta Fraschini), so who knows!

Lovely model, nonetheless, only marred by that ugly molding offset on the left side. But the weathering is great.

Reminds me I once made a Moorish flag with a text copied from a manual.
Poor guy probably stood there proclaiming that 'this VCR player comes with a 2 year warranty'

Like this one?

I suspect though that the Germans would probably have fielded wartime versions, not post war ones in Russia in 1918.

You´re right of course, but that is bourgeous nit-picking and bickering in which you indulge, Comrade. ;)

This is why I love this forum; In period put downs and a wide range of specialist knowledge, I mean where else would you find someone who could tell you your Russian slogans are wrong  lol

The Lancia is a nice looking model too, FoA have a quite decent range of models... but once more do themselves the disservice of not having photos up on the site. I picture it accompanied by CTV troops though  ;)
