I posted some photos and comments on my blog about our first Future Combat test game. Mistakes a plenty were made but fun was had despite that :-)

Nice report! Did you make much use of the Hide action? My understanding is you don't have to be entirely out of Line of Sight to be hidden, which would at least require some actions to spot you before you get shot up. I'm partial to more LoS blocking terrain on the table, as I can play Charge of the Light Brigade anytime I'd like by playing against a friend's Tau in 40k.
My first game will be this Thursday and I've been hacking away at a 40k conversion for my armies. It is nice to read another's experience with a new and different rules set.

I did not. And I suspect that I should have :-)
Now that I have an idea how critical it is to stay out of the way of incoming fire, something not a problem in a lot of other games, I'll be doing everything I can to limit LOS :-)

Interesting stuff, what are those miniatures in your header graphic?

Which ones? I have about ten different graphics that get rotated randomly

Well Gordon is always very good at learning rules ;)!
-
Looks like your Rackham stuff converted over well. :) How many points did you play?
-
I can't say how much fun and satisfactions reports like this give me.
Thanks! :)
@ Hide - It is indeed intended to be used even in the open. Imagine your troopers using every scrap of terrain, depression or stealth training available to get unseen!
We had games on tables with less terrain with more or less no shot fired for two turns just getting somewhere, hide , spot, hide again, infiltrate moves etc.
@ Command - Command and Leadership are the most important characteristics. I like to see this design goal get obvious even after a first game.
@ Activation - Yes it is different and you need to get used to it. But it adds a lot of unpredictability. And it gives high Leadership armies a real edge! (I said that Ld IS important, or?) ;) Also - keep in mind that High Tech lists have only a few units, so it is much easier to keep track!
@ Printversion - The print version will come! But as expected the book still has some typos and inconsistencies. Feedback is coming in and I really want the printware edition as good as it gets. In addition while writing the Alien book right now I see some mechanics that need to be integrated (Psi Powers for example).
I also want to get as much of the additional weapons or unit proposals into the book as possible. Like the Kollossus unit for Mid Tech or the Lasergun proposed here on LAM.
Expect an update this weekend with the Lasergun, Flechette (Needlegun) and the Z Infection weapon Feature!
I hope for the printware option to be ready in March or April, until then use the printer friendly pdf and the economy mode on your printer! ;) 8)
One more thing, can you change the name of the topic to "ViDe: Future Wars Combat test game comments and photos"? Reading Future Wars I was about to overlook it!

1630. I wanted to have a small game. I'm going to repaint some Chimeras to let my Red Blok use :-)
-
Regarding infantry speed: One game feature that is often overlooked at first is the fact that high Ld unit have in fact a longer assault range since you can place the unit around the leader within Command range.
So a Ld4 unit that moves 3 times over an open area gets the 12" move and is placed within 4" of the leader. Add the CR of 1" and you get a range of 17".
A Ld 7 unit gets 3x4 + 7 + 1! :o 8)
It is a good idea to premeasure a lot! ;)

:o 1630 points is more like a standard or bigger game for me! ;)

Nice report! I'm hoping to pick the rules up in a couple weeks and try a game myself.

So you have... you're just showing off now. ;)
Big white with yellow stripes robots or powersuits with heads sunk down in their collars...
actually I can just grab it...

They're Chromium Chargers from Mantic's Dreadball line :)

Indeed. Nice figures. Horrible mould lines. Worst restic figures I have had from Mantic.

Thanks for posting this. I've convinced a couple friends to buy the rules and am hoping to play in the next month or so, so I was very interested to see your first attempt and any more you have in the future!
I agree on the restic figures from Mantic. I've been going insane getting the mold lines off the human team and recarving inlaid detail lines. o_o I look forward to the day when I can just paint those figures instead of endlessly scraping at them with an Exacto blade.
Keep posting, I'll keep reading! :)

I got a corporation battleset recently and the mouldlines came off easily, managed to get the whole lot assembled in a night. (which i have never done with any box of miniatures)
Is there anywhere i can find a demo rule set for this game? i've been seeing plenty about it on the forum and it looks great.

Some of their figs aren't too bad really. Some of the Dreadball MVPs had almost no mould lines. The robots are just really bad.

Fair enough, maybe it's something about that mold in particular?

Presuming that you talk about ViDe: FuCo and not mantic I can point you to the Download page:
http://www.adpublishing.de/html/downloads1.html (http://www.adpublishing.de/html/downloads1.html) ;)
The QRS and dample pages are from the WW II rulebook, but the core design elements are the same.
The Future Combat Desgin notes (http://www.adpublishing.de/html/fuco_design_notes.html (http://www.adpublishing.de/html/fuco_design_notes.html)) give you a good idea what is SciFi specific! 8)
