Title: The Burning of Fort Lawrence
Post by: Operator5 on June 07, 2008, 07:46:56 AM
I ran a playtest of the squad rules for Gloire tonight and the game went fairly well. You can see a complete write-up and more images over on the Speakeasy Forum (http://www.rattrapproductions.com/speakeasy/viewtopic.php?t=1068). But for now, here's one shot from the game.

As stated previously, the figures were painted by tbroadwater.

Very nice setting, impressive stuff all around! :o

Two questions about gameplay:
1) Which size is suitable for the table when fielding squads? Perhaps the 24'' by 24'' ones (which are the main reason for me playing Gloire) could become a bit crowded?
2) The Ace card in your scenario seems to be a kind of a game killer as it ends the battle rather abruptly. Any ideas for a less 'authoritarian' solution?

EDIT: Another one: Where to add your alteration on combat attacks (mentioned in the Speakeasy) in the Squad rules? Is this meant for combat with single models? ???

1.) For two 5-man squads plus hero, a 24 x 24 table is fine. Bigger squads or more squads would start to crowd things. And don't think we're taking Gloire or any of the other games in a new direction. These are just some fun mods to play around with if you want to work a bigger game in. The scenarios and rules will still focus on the small groups of heroes and sidekicks.

2.) The Ace card was designed to be the game ender, so that rather than a set number of turns, the players had to act quickly because they never knew when the game would end. I actually like the use of the "game ender" card as it adds an air of unpredictability. And if I'm unsatisfied when I draw it, I can always stick it back in the deck and draw another card if all other players agree.

Thanks for sharing this game report. I just joined the Speakeasy so that I can better prepare myself for when Lon releases the KPW figures and your supplement.

Thanks again.

Everyone is welcome Helen and happy to have you there. Now you just have to goad Pete into posting more of the stuff he's got rattling around in his head.  :)
