more as it happens...

You know I wondered where you had got to :D looking forward to seeing this develop. Worth keeping an eye out for HLBS they are releasing more African animals which might interest you Paul
-
At the rate you paint I expect to see the finished project tomorrow ;)
Seriously I'm looking forward to seeing this progress.
-
Oh yes, this is going to be good! 8)
-
Excellent, I'm doing something similar. Bet yours is finished before mine :)
-
I'm very interested to see how this turns out, I've been very impressed with your work and your website!
-
At the rate you paint I expect to see the finished project tomorrow ;)
Painted figures by Tuesday, and a table full of mindblowing, functional jungle terrain by the end of this coming week, right? Isn't that the matakishi standard? :D
-
Brilliant. I'm going to be keeping an eye on this since my Lost World stuff is slowly expanding into Pulp African Adventures.
Then I'm going to steal all your ideas and do them wrong. :)
EDIT: Are those the Dixon Dahomey bearers? I've just painted a pack of them myself. The pack horses are quite nice from that range too, should you need any.
-
That's an impressive collection of wildlife!
You've got a lot of animals, too lol
Can't wait to see the WIPs :)
-
Need baboons...
...and some African tribesmen in big masks...
...and a pack of Pulp Figures victims...
...and a figure boiling in a big pot...
...this could go on...
...and on...
...and...
-
As always you put me to shame. But this is a great project and I am looking forward to the finished set.
If you take Warrenbruhns suggestion I would go with masked warriors from Old Glory the figure are nice but the masks were a blast to paint. Also a must from Old Glory is the tribal chieftain set with the big war drum, not so much for the natives but for the victim in the pot (makes me shiver) and the male and female hunters tied to the post. After all Tarzan needs someone to rescue. Keep up the great work.

This is just so cool. I've always thought Tarzan was a little outdated but looking at the minis I'm just not so sure anymore...

No Tarzan is mega-cool!
A near-indestructible hero, lost cities, fearsome wild beasts, Nazis, a loyal chimpanzee sidekick ..... what more could you ask for from a pulp game? lol
-
I agree and humbly admit my poor judgement. :(
-

That's alright, Doomhippie! Tarzan may need a bit of a rework, but it's not so much the character that is outdated as it is Burrough's writing style and plot structure. I recently read the last of ERB's Tarzan books, which was probably improved by some other author having to finish it. I also reread one of the Pelucidar books and the first 3 of the John Carter of Mars books, and it was hard to get through them. I had enjoyed the books so much as a teenager. At least ERB put in a lot of exciting and violent encounters. Fortunately, those characters can grow even after the death of the author, more authors can add to ERB's work, and miniatures painters like Matakshi can dazzle us and take us where Tarzan has never gone before! (In that last book, Tarzan was headed for Pelucidar. Maybe Tarzan will even reach Mars.)
-
Yes, I was wondering since all I ever read was the Greystoke stuff. Not very pulpy, though of course only because the real stuff was left out...
-
Has anyone ever done Tarzan Vs Von Lettow?.
-
The 7th and 8th books in the series take place during the great war I believe. Not very historicly accurrate as to events in East africa and as they were written during the war very anti German in tone! But ERB's errors could be corrected on a gaming table.
-
I'm more of a John Carter man than Tarzan but it is nice to see ERB is still going strong, the only depressing thing is the rate at which Matakishi chews through the projects while I am still trying to paint the figures!
-
matakishi you allways give me inspiration !! and doing that is not easy ;)
I must start my own Tarzan stuff very soon .
Tank you very much
Ah BTW what are your school tabeltop project are doing ?
-
Things are moving again with Tarzan now that the Congo mercenaries are finished.

:o Who cast the beastmen? There was a thread on TMP boards about suitable figures for La and the beastmen. I didn't like any of the suggestions from TMP.
-
Love the bases, excellent stuff.
-
Love the beastmen! Brilliant work Matakishi. (Where can I get some? ;))
-
looking good!!I love the beastmen even though they're not how I visualised Oparian males.it's a great looking unit. I'm interested in hearing how you plan to modify crossfire for this type of game?Hope to see more soon
-
they are all really good, beastmen as others have said are great,
love the gorilla though :-*

The Beast Men are D&D taers from Ral Partha, they are, of course, out of production. I had 6 already and managed, thanks to the good folk HERE, to find another set on Ebay.
I have some interesting ideas for Crossfire with Tarzan which will be divulged in the fullness of time...
-
oh matakishi I love the tarzan Idea
I must do some 45 adventure stuff with them next year I buy a lot of animales at the crices :D
cheers Grimm
-
Lovely !
I always dreamt to make a monkey army, and that's a very nice one. And as everybody, I'm very jealous of your beastmen figs ;)
meow,
Matt
-
I'm a bit dissappointed, both on your beautifull site and on this forum you thank the good folk at Frothers :(.
But, if I recall correctly, it were the good folks here at Lead Aventure Forum which guided you to the taers on eBay
:D :D :D
OT: great looking figures!, I like the idea of multiple basing but am a bit hesistant to do so (I have some viking).

@Makatishi
Just remembered: when cleaning out my Ral Partha stuff 3 weeks ago I found 3 tears, on your site you mention you are looking for some more, still interested?

Lovely stuff, and I really like to see this project going.

You are so right, I'll change that immediately.
My apologies DD I am not sure how that got mixed up.
edit oh, and no thank you, I don't need any more but several others will no doubt want to take them off your hands (see above)
-
No problem Matakishi, I just noticed I got two letters mixed up in your name.......

I love animals. I mean lead animals. Others only if I can eat them... Nice zoo you are putting together, sir.
-
Wow, I love that watermark effect you got on the hippo - top stuff. :-*
And that is one mean looking croc. Best remember to run in zig-zags, mate. (Does that actually work against crocs? Anyone know?)
-
technically no, crocs and alligators are both ambush predators at heart and therefore prefer to jump out at you (lunge) than to chase at all. alligators are more willing to follow but there approach is quite lazy and is more of a fast walk that you could probably outrun. you would literally have to shoot one in the face to provoke it enough and i bet then it wouldn't be able for obvious reasons. i think the myth comes from gators having there legs on the side and people imagine them breaking if the turned to fast and collapsed on themselves.

Malamute,
Lovely figures you have!
and a humble suggestion:
as I said to Tellus:
"If you can hold a couple of packs of Mega Miniatures flamingoes will add more colour in your Africa!"
-
Stunning stuff :o I Really like the waterline and puddle on the Hippo figure! Nice touch!I'm looking forward to seeing more of this project.
-
Wow
Those are fantastic,
all brilliantly painted and based

Sorry Matakishi,
Yes it is for you!

More lions (just the front two, the others are old lions)

Are you making their eyes purposefully look glowing, like you are seeing them at night?
-
Of course :)

Tarzan is mega-cool!
A near-indestructible hero, lost cities, fearsome wild beasts, Nazis, a loyal chimpanzee sidekick ..... what more could you ask for from a pulp game? lol
I suppose all that's missing from that list would be some form of helpless female.
-
Finally the great Apes arrive on the table :)
Lovely figures from Obelisk Miniatures of course.

I've been working on my project for 3 years and still haven't finished! :o lol
The jungle basing is really quite cool!
-
Great stuff, Paul. Makes me go out to the shed and dig out those old magazines again.
-
I'm coming late to this thread (as I do to many of the truly great projects, it seems...). Your whole concept and execution are very impressive Matakishi. I enjoyed going through it all on your blog as well- I predict a sharp spike in Tarzan-related figure sales over the next 6 months... ;)
-
Great collection Matakishi :)
The apes are particularly splendid.
-
I agree, your ability to come back to and complete this project should give hope and bouy the spirits of the rest of us. Because of this thread, I found a pack of taers at a con and still have them unopened...lol...some day...
Damn fine looking work. And after three years off, they all still work together very well.

Outstanding Tarzan collection :-*
3 years late but still quicker than mine lol
-
Looks great! I have my sad half-painted Tarzan giving me the stink eye as well!
-
Awesome collection!
-
Fantastic collection!
What did you use for your leaves and vines? They look perfect next to those apes.
-
All my jungle bases use the same recipe. I'm currently painting my Malayan figures and I plan to do a base tutorial with them (after the LPL ends). When it's done I'll add a note about it here. There's only two ingredients really, leaves and vines, both of which I get from Antenociti's Workshop.
http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/decorplus-leaf-litter.html
He doesn't seem to do the vines any more but I'll contact him and ask what they were and where to get some when I write the tutorial.

-
Lovely Tarzan group. I'm glad to see this project finished.
-
Oh!
These are great. I remember seeing them when you started and thinking 'what the devil!'
But it looks splendid. I might even have to do a Zartan character for my African VSF.
-
A house for Lord Greystoke. Currently waiting for the thatch to dry before I continue but here it is in it's naked form:

:o :o :o
That is seriously impressive, matakishi!
I admire the way you get so many different effects from the cork that you use.
I am begining to think that there are several of you, all posing as one man, as you seem to be so productive, working on so many things at once......hmmm.
Great work!
:-* :-* :-*
(Whichever one of you that it was who created this masterpiece!)
-
As impressive as your Zulu buildings. You make it look really easy.
I agree with Mason, there must be more than one of you. :D
-
Super sweet Jungle figures and I love the jungle flocking you use.
-
Paul, that is so inspirational. I have been following your threads for ages and they always inspire. :-*
-
That's a brilliant house, wish I lived in it 8)
-
48 hours for the roof to dry :o
Still, it's done now, here she is before the paint:

This will be adorning the front wall:
Today is the last day of my Christmas break and I'm trying to get my hillbilly farm house underway before work begins again tomorrow so this probably won't see any paint until the weekend... but you never know :)
-
Really nice, I am liking the towelling thatch, I think I prefer it to the teddy bear fur method which I have used. :)

A great look, mata. I am personally in two minds about this terrycloth vs. teddyfur. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

Amazaing progress indeed!
