Really aimed at the English Civil War and the rather amateurish way in which the English defended old manor houses. This is not based on any specific building but rather a collection of building brought together.
It is 28mm scale. The vast majority of it is scratch built. Only some of the castle walls and the round turret are commercial buildings. The houses come completly apart and decorated with paintings, tables, beds, etc.

That's really very good, Paul, well done. Thanks for posting the pictures. Always good to see other folks' ideas.

wow ;D
-
That looks terrific - really mouth-watering. It reminds me a little of Stokesay Castle in Shropshire, my favourite little fortress:

Paul, this is a real fine piece of terrain! :-*
-
Wow! :o
That really is an amazing piece of work. Whether it was a real manor or not, it still would lookperfect on any gaming table.
-
That is a sweet piece of work! :o
-
What an awesome model! :o Can we some detail pictures of it?
-
You need one of those Pete. You could have about three different games of Gloire running on that simultaneously!
-
I could run like six different simultaneous scenarios on that.
1. Plant the Petard/Get Off Mine Lawyne
2. Rescue Baldrick from the Gaol
3. Rescue the contents of the wine cellar
4. Hide the Illegal Priest in the Priest Hole
5. Random Highwayman Shenanigans
6. Find the Incriminating Letters
and Tavern Brawl. There is literally no board that cannot be improved by adding Tavern Brawl on top of it.

Ooh lovely

Fantastic job Paul. That should really set the tone for some fun adventures.
lol @ Pete

Thanks for the nice comments lads.
There is actually a tutorial to the building of the place on another site. If the powers that be on here are happy for me to link across then it is here.

Absolutely stunning work! I'm really impressed by the lovely details, let alone by the sheer size of the terrain. It looks like a 'naturally' developed fortification with an old motte-and-bailey as centre of a later built castle and the recently (and perhaps hastily) added bastions and outer defences. Never seen this portrayed so well as a model.
Well done, sir!
-
Paul, that is really very nice indeed. I would dearly like to put my forces on there!
All very 'By the sword divided'. Excellent.
And the judicious use of teddy bear fur is growing on me. ;)
Dear me, did I just say 'teddy bear fur is growing on me'? lol
-
Absolutely STUNNING !Piece of terrain :o :o :-*It looks huge! what are it's dimensions 5'x6'?
-
Wow, awesome stuff.
-
Thats amazing, wow. :o
-
Thats really well done. Thanks for shareing the photos. I have those Castle piece lying about some place Never did get more than the Gate, tower and a couple of walls. Now maybe I can do something with them.
-

Castle Back-Off!
Artillery!!!!
Thanks for the pic.
-
Paul,
you're obviously barking mad to have conceived such a project, but what a model :o :-*
The attention to detail is what really distinguishes it. Well done, Sir!
I like the use of Teddy Bear fur [I believe that's what it is] for the long grass - what did you use to colour it?
-
Many Thanks guys.
I tried various ways to colour it but in the end the best way is using an airbrush with acrylic paint. I used some cheap art shop acrylics heavily watered down.
Be prepared to spray it a few times to get the colour you want.
-
hey that is fine work Paul ,realy good looking .
And the real cool thing is that it is big enugh for a skirmish game .

That really is a top quality piece, something to be proud of for sure.

What an amazing table! :o The tutorial is fantastic and the illustrations prove your crafting skills.
You Sir, are an artist!
-
Lovely reminds me of the old BBC TV show By the Sword Divided
-
Stunning work Paul! :) That has to be a blast to game with! lol
-
Hi Paul,
Truly excellent work.
The blending of your castle into the manner is very smooth.

This link didn't work for me.

This link didn't work for me.
Probably because it's 6 years old ;)

I have to do something on the same scale for my LOTR Fords of Isen project. I like the way you've sorted out the rampart sections and dealing with complicated X sections and changes in ground level that such ramparts, storming poles etc. present
-
Fabulous work - Stokesay was my first thought, too! Love the manor-house-within-old-castle effect, really good historical work!
-
Why have a gate THAT big? Elephants with howdahs?
-
Love it!
-
Wow, incredible model! No apologies for threadomancy required!
-
Stunning work and very inspiring 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I normally don't visit this site...Wow!..glad I did,fantastic!!!!!!
-
Wow this one keeps popping back :D Thanks for finding it Bezzo. ;)
That took a good chunk of my life to build but was great fun doing. It followed a period when I had had to make three very large dolls houses for my daughters. As none of them wanted a fortified dolls house I made myself one lol
I did not realise that you could still access GWP3.
This is the link on how to do it in case you missed it.
