Title: Old West Painting Posse - The Repercussions (Pic Heavy) Updated 19/02/2014
Post by: Cholly on January 30, 2014, 04:13:47 PM
The Old West Painting Posse over Christmas really got my hobby mojo working and I managed to get 8 miniatures finished before the 100 deadline was met and after that, unlike other short lived bursts of hobby activity, I found myself carrying on. Considering a good(?) month for me is about 3-4 minis, the 14 I’ve finished since December is some kind of record.

I’ve been checking out the great builds from Mason (nicked your sign idea, easy and effective so thanks for that), Malamute, NickNascati, ConstableBertrand and others and after asking questions on construction etc (last September, told you I was slow!) I thought I’d use this week off work to actually build something. I already had foamboard, balsa, Warbases windows, some doors from 4Ground and even some Frontline resin bits I bought ages ago and had forgotten about. I decided on a Gunsmiths (mainly cos I also had some Conquest Mini gun sprues lying around) and set to work. After getting plank blindness scoring the balsa, cut and glued together fingers, and other construction accidents I finally finished yesterday (mind you I wasn’t working flat out as my girlfriend needed me to practice on for her Clinical Examination exam tomorrow) and am pretty damn pleased with the results. The only real bugger is that the base has warped by about 3mm at the front.
Anyhow, here is B.Buckles Gunsmiths, of Dyersville, Texas.

The next build may have to be a Sheriff's Office and Cells for Sheriff Weir, or a Livery Stable with forge. Just have to see what inspires me next....

Excellent work, great paint job on the minis.
Love the building too, shame about the warped base.

Great work! I like the building interior. I also have a backlog of Old West minis to paint but as I hear the LPL May be starting soon I may hold off until then. We have a lot of the same figures too, I see.

Everything is lovely - and somehow Cowboy minis have a way of doin' that to someone!  lol  I actually kind of noticed the same thing.  I come from a long slow hobby method...normally lacking motivation.  It may sound silly but the 50+ Old West minis I've painted is the biggest thing (particularly if you add the terrain I've knocked out) since my first Warhammer army some many years ago.

It's also encouraged me to realize I can accomplish a task of prepping an entire skirmish game...so since then my painting on Gladiators picked up where I knocked out another 15 or so minis...and recently I've started knocking out fantasy miniatures.  It's really boosted my skills and efficiency.

Lovely painting, Cholly.
My favourites are the Sheriff and his men.
Great moustaches!
 :-* :-*

The Sheriff's gaff looks great too.
I haven't delved into interiors yet and you do set a fine example.

Glad the sign worked ok for you, simple is always a bonus.
As for the slight warp: Try painting the affected area underneath.
It may warp back as the paint dries... ;)

Spot on! That's brilliant.

I like the scored timber planks, and the paint washes over it. It looks like individual planks. The interior is very impressive too, the gun racks are a nice touch. I may borrow that idea if I have any spare guns.
Keep at it!

Cheers
Matt

Lovely paintjobs on the Artizan figures. I like seeing different takes on the same figures and your Welsh Evans looks totally different to the same figure I painted for the Posse. I reckon I prefer yours!

Great stuff, thats quite a collection of well painted figures you have there.  :)

I really like your buildings too. So good to see someone scratchbuilding stuff as opposed to the abundance of MDF kits that are so popular now. :)

Thanks for the kind words guys. I currently have about 80 (badly) WW mini's that I've had for years that I'm in the process of stripping and re-painting. Mainly Foundry (some older Copplstone sculpts and the later Mike Oewn stuff) and Artizan and I really enjoy painting the Mike Owen stuff those guys are first in the queue. Hoping to pick up a few missing packs from both collections to increase the man to horse ratio and polish off the 2 half finished buildings on page 1 before moving on to the Livery stables i have planned. Was also looking for more mexicans last night and wondered if anyone had got their hands on the Knuckleduster Mexican Bandits and how they scale up etc with Mr. Owens stuff.

There is a comparison of Knuckleduster Banditos with Artizan in the Knuckleduster journal, they would seem to match pretty well.

I am very tempted to expand and get a few Banditos :)
