The exploding homing chicken catapult is a one man weapon costing 8 points. It has a 24” range and no SV bonus. Chickens need to bought separately and cost 8 points each and explode like an ordinary explosive grenade.
Nominate a target figure and roll to hit as per normal. If you succeed then the chicken explodes on impact. If you fail, then throw a scatter die and a distance die. We used a D8 for scatter (1=North, 3=East, 5=South, 7=West; other numbers are directions in between) and a D10 for distance in inches. If the chicken hits another figure, it explodes on impact.
If the chicken is still intact, then on each following turn it moves or runs (dependent on terrain) as if it were a normal piece. It always heads for the nearest figure. Any figure a chicken ends in contact with can attempt to break free as per the normal rules. If a chicken is still in contact with a figure in the shooting phase, it explodes.
A chicken can be shot at as if a normal figure with a pluck value of 6. If it is hit and fails the test, then it explodes.
Usually, the catapult launched exploding homing chicken tends to sow chaos and confusion in the ranks of the enemy.

If you're using a D8 for scatter then there is no need for numbered directions. Just use the top point, wherever it points is the direction of scatter.

OMG, I love it! Just to clarify, chickens have the same standard move as other figures, six inches?

a little taste of warcraft III cheat codes ? ;)

A chicken moves as a normal figure. It runs in the open (9") and walks in terrain (6" - terrain effects).
