Title: Wild West Exodus Cottages
Post by: PaulJB on February 17, 2014, 10:22:18 PM
Has anyone built the Wild West Exodus "cottages"? I am curious about the size? Are they going to be too big for 28mm models? They seems nice and generic and could serve in to other periods too I think but isnt WWE 32mm?

Thanks

Paul

I picked up a pack of these and they are a little on the large side. They're nice kits, just a bit big. If I get a chance I'll put one next to a 28mm Artizan figure. I'm thinking about putting a boardwalk around them to reduce the effect slightly.

Please do, Steve, as I have been considering them too, but the possible mahoosiveness has put me off so far.

I think they are definitely going to be on the large side except for maybe Black Scorpion. I have considered these a couple of times and the basic designs are just off enough that I don't think they will fit in well with regular western buildings. On a board without any other buildings they would probably be fine though since they all have a similar look and feel.

Yeah, that's probably a fair assessment. Unfortunately I leaped before I looked as I happened to require 4 shacks and there they were! They should be salvageable (I hope) with only a little work. I'll try and remember to sort a photo out tonight.

Guys,
Where are those buildings on the WWE website? I didn't see them and searching comes up blank.

I've only seen them on eBay.

The buildings occupy a smaller than 100mm x 100mm footprint (not counting the optional lean-to). They are 120mm to the roof apex. The doors are 40mm high by 28mm wide.

Artizan figure next to one of the one and a half storey cottages (it looks like it has an attic with gable windows). I think it's on the large side personally, but I'll look to adapt it. Sorry for the poor photos.

Honestly I think some simple clap-board walkways would make it reasonable - they don't look particularly nice in that photo though.

That's exactly what I'm going to do! The paint job on the marketing image certainly shows them at their best.

To be perfectly honest, I think these look like some of the worst MDF kits I have seen.
I am really glad that i resisted the urge to try them out.

Good luck with them, Steve, and I mean that, as it will not be easy to make them look as 'good' as the promotional picture does.

Base boards with plenty of detritus and foliage should help reduce the scale issue, along with the aforementioned boardwalks.
The corners and edges of the roofs will be the most difficult to work with as that MDF, or whatever it is, looks really thick.

BTW...  WWE figs are stated as 35mm on their webpage.

I think 'impossible' might be the word!   :D

Yeah, I know that now! lol

The roof sections are crazily thick, not sure what I'll do with them, maybe some fascia boards to hide them (not necessarily accurate but it will look better). I'm thinking I'll base these and bring the levels up with boardwalk. I may also put new frames around the doors to reduce the size. I'll try something with them!

I tried to order them from BfBerlin but they were sold out. In hindsight, luckily? lol

But seriously, they looked good and cheap enough for beefing up our shared Malifaux and CoC projects. Oh well. Maybe I'll just paint the previous batch of assorted buildings I still have in one box. ::)

Hell, who am I kidding...

They look big for even their figs, IMO.

If cheaper is what you want then Sarissa all the way, they look a lot better too.

Yes, I think so! They were a present so I'll make the most of them!

I was looking at these yesterday for Innsmouth dockside cottages.  A little big for me, but nice on the web-site.
