Nice terrain!

Doug,
Great AAR and solid review of the game. I generally don't like clicking out of the LAF to go blogging, but that was worth it. Well done.
-
Great AAR. Thank you for the introducing of the rules. Is CoC better to play with than Bolt Action??

@ pixelgeek and tomek917 - any kudos for terrain and miniatures goes to my host Dave. They were all his doing.

Thanks, Mr Peabody - I'm glad I was able to lure you away and that it was worth your while....

NurgleHH - thanks for your remarks. I can't help you with Bolt Action comparisons because I've never played Bolt Action. I think there are comparisons available on various forums though. The only current WW2 skirmish system I've played is force on Force for WW2 and I preferred Chain of Command.

You know, they are both fun games, but very different.
There is great value in Chain of Command if you are new to WWII gaming because you will end up building and painting some terrifically useful units that will see you through countless rule-sets.

As far as I read both system, I think there is a great idea in the system of CoC, but fire and fight is better solved in Bolt Action. Maybe I will mix both to get a "better" system.
-
Interesting, Nurgle. Why do you like the fire and fight better in Bolt Action? Is is more/less lethal, less random, ...?
-
I'm all for playing a game a bunch of times, as it's written, before changing it or mixing it up with other rule sets. At least then you know what's what when you import it, change it or when the game breaks completely and no one wants to play.

Nice report :)

Great report, and nice terrain and figures!
I have to add that I really enjoyed CoC. I think that any ruleset that allows you, as someone new to the rules, to succeed by using real world tactics rather than in depth knowledge of the system is really something to appreciate. CoC really managed that, and I am not the only person to say so. I've heard talk of it being 'complicated' but my mate and I picked it up after one game and began to memorise a lot of rules during the first game. Can't quibble at that.
(This post in reference to Nurgle's question further up, I suppose.)

Thanks for sharing your game.
Cheers,
Helen

I like the idea of "gaming before gaming". In CoC the "game" of finding your startpoints for your troops is very interesting. So you don't start with this fixed areas and situations you can calculate. You have to react in the game.
In the game after the game I think I like Bolt Action more. Easy handling, only few dicerolls. But I will try both and decised later.
My Problem with Bolt Action is, that it is becoming a tournamant system like Warhammer, etc.. In my oppinion it means less realistic gaming, more power gaming.

That is definitely what many would consider to be a strength of Bolt Action. I'm not comfortable with the tournament approach and the min-maxing that often goes with it.

I'm afraid of gaming WWII with Bolt Action, when the german troops have many tiger tanks and a lot of MG42. At the end the germans had problems with supply. I think Bolt Action is completly ignoring it. The good thing about Bolt Action is, that it is a very fast system.
Update: I think the same discussion is here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=63745.0, so I stop it and follow there

Nurgle, have you played Chain of Command yet?
-
I tried it on the weekend. We tested some rules to get in it. This morning I had the chance to read some pages and realised that we did a lot of mistakes while playing. I have to wait two or three weeks to play again, because here in Hamburg is holidaytime and a lot of gamers left for skiing. So I can test solo some of the rules.
One question: Is anyone doing the lists for Army Builder?
-
I dont think there are any files in Army Builder, for CoC, and it would not really make any sense to do it anyway. If only for testing, try looking at the lardies blog, as there are several armies available there.

Now having played both BA comes across as a tournament powergamer Commando Comic version of WW2. CoC allows more historical force lists and use of troops. Love the patrol phase and shooting.
