Just a few quick shots of my latest Work in Progress.
It's a steam coach with a twist.....the horses are steam powered not the the coach!!
It's based on plastic "Wedding Favor" I picked up for about £1.00. It has been slightly re-worked with a scratch-built interior a brake lever and a front kick-board added.
I'm going to be using some Mage-Knight steam horses to pull it.
All told it's cost me about £4.00 in materials!!!!

"Lady Jane Armstrong" seated in her private coach:

A scale comparison with a Westwind Victorian Gentleman:

I've just found a suitable driver which i will convert over the weekend.

Oooh, I like this 8) 8) 8)
you WERE lucky with that coach :D

Now I need to create a device to stop the coach! lol

Now I need to create a device to stop the coach! lol
Just get an UEFA umpire. Once it leaves the coaching zone, it will be reprimanded. lol
Seriously, great idea, fine execution, and I damn right cannot wait to see the finished piece!

"Seriously, great idea, fine execution, and I damn right cannot wait to see the finished piece!"
Yeah all true but we already know it will be absolutely awesome.
The wedding favour shop should get these for sale on a wargames website somewhere though as they would probably sell more - yes I would like one myself
-
Oh no! There he goes again. More VSF splendiferousness to both delight and depress us mere mortals lol
-
Drool ;D
Can't wait to see how this turns out! Where did you get the coach - looks great for all sorts of experiments :)
-
Another masterpiece in the works from PM. Does his talent have no bounds?
:o :o :o
-
I like it!
Nice twist, the horses steam powered.
No sponsons or turrets? ;)
The anticipation is killer.
-
You are truly gifted. :-*
-
He he he, I saw it in the flesh and heard what might be done to it :D. I think you are in for a treat.
What more can I say, NOTHING you'll have to wait lol lol lol
Go Pappa go

Great idea, Looking forward to seeing the finished article. :)
Where did you pick up the Mage Knight horses.
Thunderchicken and I have been looking for some of those to create Her Majesty's (Guad Bless 'Er) Steam mounted dargoon guards :)
-
Thanks for the comments and encouragement! :)
I've had a bit of a lazy day today but I will be cracking on with the driver and control sytem shortly.
Malamute: I got the MK steam horses from the US on Ebay. Just look for "Dwarven Mounted Fuser" it's from the Whirlwind range of MK.

Well, after reading a bit of the old typing (thanks Fritzy), I'll just wait as PM works away on his latest.
No bank holidays on the horizon I trust. Heh.
Good to know there's something cool in the works (thanks Fritzy ya ought to be in marketing). ;)
adieu, ta, laterz

I decided that I didn't like the roof on the coach ( far too Cinderella!!!) so I scratchbuilt one with some plastic-card.
I've finished the control levers and altered the driver with some limb alterations and green-stuff.
NEW ROOF:

I'll slap some paint on this during the week.

It's comming along well mate, driver looks excellent and the controls look great as you have them. I have mixed feelings about the roof though. I don't know which I like best, they both give the carriage a totally different look ??? ??? and both look great :D
Cheers
Fritzy
-
Ah, now thas a good update
I like the controls.
The roof change is for the best I think.
Thanks man.
-
Stunning Work Sir!! :othe roof change brings it from the 17th cent. to the 19th instantly!! I saw a box of these at micheals the other week might have to pick them up, though I don't think I'll be able to finish them to your level ! is that brake handle completely scratch made?

I'm with you there, PM: not so much that I don't like the original roof, but this personalizes the model more. One should always aim to replace a "major feature" to reach that aim, I feel. The flat roof also invites the mounting of some sort of weapon (Gatling, Gatling???...).
Rudi
-
Its coming on nicely. I agree re the roof, more late C19th with a flat roof and an ideal place for a Gatling...
Looking forward to seeing how you paint it. :)
-
I've had a bit of a busy week at work and have had little time for painting etc ( Too tired!!!).
I thought I'd finish off my Steam Coach.

I'm working on an alternative roof with a Howitzer mounted to ward off any would-be attackers.

Thats amazing. 8)
-
As good - if not better- than your other VSF contraptions.
Stunning work :o :-*
Worth missing Father Ted re-runs on satellite tv for lol
-
:o :o ;D ;D The finishing touches brought it together really well. Looks better than the other night. I'm lucky in that I get to see it in the flesh through the process, (and I still haven't discovered his secret). Now to try and get the one you donated to my cause to look half as good. Better get the VOODOO that YOUDOO book out again and sacrifice a KFC Bargain Bucket, felt sorry for the live chicken lol lol.
Keep up the great work, and use the Buzz Saw, or the Rail gun, or the really small gatling gun you have floating round your bits box.
Cheers

ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!!!!!

Wow, absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!

Great to see your progress.
It all 'flows together' so well.
Thanks for posting the pics.
Super detail!

PM,
You've got the right to be proud! Absolutely gourgeous!
About this howitzer mounting... If I were you, I would hurry the construction forward: that your coach is still on the road (as it were...) is only due to the fact that I had to work this weekend and couldn't finish the contraption that will destroy your devilish machine!
A hint: mount the howitzer to cover the skies and... that pretty lady in the coach (la contessa della Vagani) - having been taken hostage by the evil perfesser Moriarto (driving) - is about to be rescued by the only true superhero: Flashy himself! Look to the skies, sir, death will be coming from above!!!! (soon...) >:( >:( >:(
As always,
yours truly,
Rudi
-
Like I predicted at the beginning of the thread it is absolutely awesome. Cracking job.
-
Thank you all for the comments, I'm really pleased that you like it!
This is one of the first things that I've built where I was totally unsure of whether it "Worked" ( a couple of times it almost got smashed up!!!). I thought initially that the horses looked totally wrong and I couldn't work out how to do the controls. My better half told me to leave it and go back to it in a day or so. I'm glad I listened to her!!!!
Rudi: Thanks for the heads-up on the aerial assault. My original intention was to have an alternative roof with a hidden gatling on a revolving hatch ( it can be flipped up for combat). I have found an old Airfix 1:72 Costal Defence Gun which is massive BUT fits perfectly. The only problem may be recoil!!!
Hmmmm..........VSF flying machines......???

PM

Bloody good work. Looking forward to seeing what you can turn out for a flying machine.

Apart from me working on Sunday, another reason why my (still mysterious... :D) flying machine isn't ready yet is precisely the same: a couple of times it very nearly "flew" (out of the window... >:D) . During the last couple of days I could have gotten away with nearly ANY crime: I had no fingerprints left, so much were my fingertips covered in powerglue!
Anyway, all components are now ready and I'll prime'm tonight (some parts need to be painted before putting the model together), so it looks good (I even have got it in balance on the thin wire connecting it to its base).
BTW, the recoil of your gun is no problem: look at the control panel of the steam horses: besides the different gears ("walk", "trot" and "gallop") there is a red button marked "FM" (Firing Mode). If you press that, the horses will place their legs much as a mule does that wants to stay put. When the gun is fired, this absorbs 90% of the recoil. Thought you should know this ;)
At your service,
Rudi
Rudi
-
Just amazing, Pappa. That's creativity at it's best just again. :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks guys, I'm really glad you like it!
Rudi: Nice idea about the recoil control..... there may be problems with the driver being blown to bits by the over-pressure of a howitzer firing next to his left ear....but this is VSF!!! lol
Looking forward to seeing what dastardly aerial conveyance you have come up with!!!

Apart from 1 little thingie, it's finished; pictures will be up by tomorrownight if all goes well, but now
I must rush: I've got a meeting with Alan Hamilton (also from this forum) in Waterloo (not a miniature battle, but near the battlefield itself!).

Great job PM
Now that i am back from my hols I can pickk up where I left off with my first steam horse (partially completed when I went away)....
-
Brilliant stuff. ;D

Is there another way to get steam horses?
I like them :-* :-*

I am (slowly) converting GW plastic Empire armoured horses from their Warhammer range. Unfortunately various non-wargames commitments mean I will not be doing much work on these for the next two weeks :( If I get a chance I will try to finish and undercoat the first horse this weekend.
-
Great conversion work yet again and a really nice paint job. Id like to see some photos of your whole VSF collection...
-
Absoloutely gorgeous.
That's the problem with coming to this site. Makes me want to get into all sorts of eras and ranges that I have neither time nor money to.
Well done.
-
This is really nice.
I am surprised no-one appears to have asked already, do you have a link for the coach body? Where did you get it from?
Cheers
Scott

It's amazing how well black and gold/brass always goes together for Victorian stuff. Just gives that 'Gothic' flavour. :)
Now, I must finish a couple of (or 3) small projects and get on with Chaos in Carpathia... :?
-
Ebay auction for the same item, I think. They're selling 5 for $7.99.

No shipping outside the US :?
EDIT:
I was actually considering buying a lot and breaking it up for offering to other members here, but when I have to contact seller to ask for the possibility of overseas shipping, etc., I really can't be bothered, as it is not an item I really NEED right now (just nice-to-have).
-
That is just so incredibly cool!

If anybody wants one PM me. As I'm not too interested in them myself; If I get enough takers I can split them up for shipment to terra incognita. ;)
-
Alright, I've got 3 takers already. Anyone else? It looks like this guy combines shipping. I don't mind helping.
-
Bloody marvellous PM - as usual!
-
Just got to this thread, Insanely awesome project! Jealous? Hell, yes! Even if I have no such skills!
Recoil, schmoil! Waiting to see the gun included...
Looks wonderful.
Gracias,
Glenn

OK. You all have until July 8th to decide. The seller is away for the holiday so not processing orders. I will buy some on the 8th. So any additional parties let me know. The cost per coach should only be about $2.25. I'll have to calculate shipping for each of your locations and I'll PM the total before shipping. ;)

The Coach is only $2.25??? We are talking just the coach itself, no figures, no horses, I assume. Even if it wasn't a scale I use I would have to get in on that "Just because" of the price.
Postage to Saint Louis, MO, USA, please? I have some mechanical horses I can strip off a VSF unit if needed...
Gracias,
Glenn

"5 NEW plastic silver coaches and white horses
Great for weddings and anniversaries
Great party favors just add sweets
Use as center piece or cake topper
5"long 3"tall 1/14"wide "
Eight dollars for the price, plus three for shippage, gives a total of $2.20, which is even sweeter than Dave suggested, but I'd hardly fault anyone for that math error. ;->=
Given how much I'm coming to hate shipping cross pond, I'm nominating the Doom meister for Sainthood. However, I know I'll be trying to pick some up on the 8th, and will see if there are any leftover seekers of the same laters.
I'm assuming the horses are s***e, but there ARE horses.
Course, I'll be swinging by Hobby Lobby, JoAnns, and Michaels to see if there are any there, and price compare. It's becoming embarassing how regularly I check the websites for coupons...
Doug
-
I think I'm interested - just for the sake of the price. And automaton horses are a must....
-
Crazy cool model! :-*
-
Pappa, where did you get the paved base in big pieces like that?
-
Not my auction, not my responsibility, but found a gold coach here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Cinderella-Coach-Wedding-carriage-Favor-Plastic-/150481963356?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23096c895c
Cut and paste the auction number to your locale-appropriate eBay site.
The seller ships internationally, though it'll come to about $10US with shippage to the UK. Have you all tried looking at local wedding establishments?
Anyway, I'm saved from trying to buy in bulk (I found an even cheaper option than the one first given) and I don't have to do that !@#$ paperwork. ;->=

Your stuff is insane!
(In a good way)

Just received my wedding favour coach from ebay. I've got some sheet styrene for the conversion work.
Next question: where did you get the seated lady from in the coach?
I'd also be looking for a seated driver, wearing a tricorne. Anyone any ideas for a suitable figure? Oh and two regular horses, I wont be making steam powered ones!
regards

Oh, good gosh, do we have to do everything for you? Next, you'll be wanting us to cut the card for you!
Hm... I do need some sheeting for my armored coach; as long as you're cutting anyway, would you be a dear and... lol
Seriously, glad someone could use the link, and it didn't turn out to be a disaster. Few of my good deeds go without out SOMEONE being punished, usually the recipient.
And if Mr. Thunder gets TOO uppity, ask him where those darn tripods are! That'll show 'em. lol
Doug

I have 2 extra of these coaches in hand if anyone wants them, PM me. I sent 2 to the UK last week for ~$6 US. The cost of the coach is ~ $1 US.
-

Well what are forums like this for, but to ask questions and seek answers from the wise ;-) ?
If someone here recognizes the figure it will save me hours of ploughing through the great plethora of mini manufacturers that are out there these days... time is precious after all... I'd rather spend it making and painting than staring at the screen!
Oh and if you want to cut my styrene, by all means feel free to pop over, although it is a slight jaunt from Nebraska to New Zealand, but I'll have a couple of snags on the barbie waiting, and with a click of the heels of your ruby slippers, you'll be home in time for milk and cookies!
-
Wow....talk about thread-o-mancy.........
Sorry, I haven't been on-line much and hadn't noticed additional comments on this thread.
Thank you all for the continuing interest.
To answer a few questions:
The base is a styrene sheet from "wills" , dressed stone I believe. I just cut it to shape and backed it with plastic card.
The female miniature is from the "westwind" Gothic Horror Range and is a passenger from the "Hansom Cab" in the Jekyll and Hyde section. Unfortunately I don't think you can get her on her own.
Any more questions feel free to ask ( I'm back!!!!)
Regards
PM

*ahem* Ruby slippers to Kansas, not Nebraska... lol
As for this forum, most of time, my questions are answered before I ask; actually, before I realized I needed to ask. Let's do the time warp again!
...( I'm back!!!!)...
Regards
PM
Viz. your recent posts and my own feelings of inadequacy, scarier words were never spoken! :D
Doug
-
Thanks Pappa, I'll check out westwind.
I also found some possibilities myself at Eureka in their c18th civilians range.
I just need to figure out a seated, tricorne-wearing driver, but I have feeling that may be a conversion job...
Nebraska?...Kansas?... quick look at the map, damn I was close; adjoining state, not bad for POM turned kiwi... At least, I didnt believe it was possible to walk from Australia to New Zealand via the 'land bridge'... ;)
-
Would a coach of that type fit in ECW time? Not a huge coach officiando (spelling). Doomsdave how much for shipping to Australia?

If it's any help, Dixon do two seated stagecoach passengers in their Old West range. http://www.dixon-minis.com/dixoncatalogue.php?maintype=12
I know the figures aren't great, but then again having seen the Eureka passengers recently they're about par for the course ;)
-
Doomsave, they arrived today. Went to pay and have misplaced paypal address - see PM and please respond as I will find it eventually but the senior moments are more frequent and less enjoyable lately...
