Question for you guys. I have seen that the Falange sometimes had a White Chevron on the left sleeve. What was the reason for this? Did they all have them? I have read that it was something to do with them being in combat?

Yes, Falange 'fighting units' had a large white chevron on one (or both?) sleeves, which was discontinued at some point and replaced by a smaller white chevron on the lower side of the cap instead. I would imagine it was around the same time they stopped wearing blue shirts and started using the khaki one with the blue collar... but I'm not entirely certain of that though and it could have been earlier.

Fantastic job on the figures btw and the flag, as always, is excellent!  :)

While I'm looking at grabbing some flags for my newly finished Regulares.....

What flags work best for 1936-37

Legion?
Regulares?

None of the flags i have done are Legion. At the moment it's generic stuff but ill be expanding with more detailed stuff as i have a ridiculous amount of stuff in the research folder. Ive done some Legion ones for Minarions that i still need to put on the site.

So, are the Minarion Legion one finished and will be a available in 28mm...or only 1/72? Maybe a daft question , but can the Legion flags you've down be resized or do they need to be down again?

White Chevrons, indicate a Falangista who has frontline fighting experience, you can mix in militia type figures as well, just rememeber to give them the Camisas Azules  ;)
To add a bit of flavour, you could include auxlillaries from the Sección Femenina, in the shape of some nurses.
In 1937 the Falange and Carlist requites were joined together, the uniform for this newly created FET y de las JONS, was the Falange blue shirt, and the Carlist red beret.
Remember to sing Cara Al Sol, when you deploy them for battle lol

Nice painting.

I'd have to confer with your associates, but I do suspect that your singing 'Cara al sol' while wearing the 'Yellow Shorts of Battle', could be a potent deterrent to the spread of neo-fascism.

Amazing job, Iain! Congrats :)

About the Legion flags: those that Iain designed and printed for us Minairons are 1:100th scale, with a prospective to be comissioned at 1:72nd scale too. We hold no aims to intrude into 1:56th, because Iain has already a lot of work already done in this scale under Flags of War name.

As a consequence, we'd have no inconvenience at Iain deciding to re-scale that particular sheet into 1:56th under his own brand name. He can freely do so if wished --we'd only ask to be acknowledged before, that's all.

Regards,
Lluís

Check out Empress Tanks and Armour car. I got Andy from Volley Fire Painting Services to paint me some of my SCW Armour. I’ll never get time to paint these. Also painting tanks is way different to figures so I can't be bothered learning all the new techniques  :D :D

Andy has done a great job on these i think and ill be him to do all my Armour from now on. Ill need to get a Panzer I from Empress and i also have two more Armoured cars from Burns Miniatures to get done.

They will be used in a large SCW game next year at Carronade.

Excellent work on the figures.  You do realize though that you have Loyalist armor done with Rebel markings, right?  Except for what was captured, Rebel armor was supplied by Germany and Italy, Loyalist armor by Russia and France.

Yeah mate I know :) Found a fair few pictures of Republican Armour with Nationalist markings, So I wanted these to be the captured. It's basically because there is nothing available for Nationalists that will pierce my mates Republican T-26s. The Panzer I should keep the balance of the world lol lol

My turn to count those rivets...  ;)

By Late '37 the Nationalists had virtually as many T-26, BA-6 and FAI as the Republicans*, only continued shipments kept the balance in the Republic's favour. They captured so many that the programmes to upgrade some of the Panzer I and CV-33 with the Breda 20mm was abandoned after only a few prototypes were made.

By Mid-'38 each Nationalist tank battalion had at least one company of T-26 tanks.

* Okay I may be exaggerating slightly, but they had a lot.

Fountain of knowledge mate.

I try my best... fortunately so far there have only been questions I can answer. There are however so many I can't; the more I find out the less I know it seems.
 :)

Wow, I didn't realize that the Rebels had been quite so successful in capturing them.  I may have to re-think my next order!

To be fair it was more like perhaps even numbers of abandoned/broke down vehicles to captures (roughly 139 in total, of which 98 were put back into service and the rest used for spares). The T-26 was actually Spain's 'Main Battle Tank' right up to the supply of U.S. vehicles in 1954, barring 20 Panzer IV and 10 Stug III acquired in 1943.

Cheers mate. The standard bearer was my fave as as well. The only figure type missing from the Carlists so i chop the gun off the NCO.

Does anyone know why a lot of the drawings for the Carlists have the Cross Bearer wearing the checks?

Started painted my Moroccans last night. It might be an interesting one with getting the skin tones correct.

Finished another two units. Quite pleased with the outcome on these given that i only spent about 6 days in total on them all.

The figures are great as usual and i loved painting the Italians. Not sure i got the skin tones on the Moroccans that i wanted nor am i 100% sold that i got the CTV uniform correct but they will do for the table.

Next i have some Nationalist Cavalry too paint. I DO NOT LIKE PAINTING HORSES :)

The flags have been made by myself but for Empress. They can be bought only from the Empress site.

Excellent. Need to check those Woodbine products as I think I still need few more Moroccans myself.

Those look excellent.  :)

On the subject of Woodbine, I recall Rudi Geudens (at least I think it was) saying he used Woodbine Turks with Empress heads as standard Spanish Infantry... the belts and pouches are slightly different, but usually the rifle and arms cover them up.

That's a great Conversion
I could do that conversion easy with the right Woodbine Heads instead of turban, since the figures I have are in summer uniforms.
Cheers
Iain

Great day gaming our Clubs Spanish Civil War game at Carronade and for a change i never bought anything.

Hard attacking from the Nationalists was top much for the Republican Defenders. The Italian CTV squad took down lots of the Anarchists and were still standing by the of the game

Thanks to the guys at the Falkirk club for a good show. :D :D :D
