Excellent!  :o

I have some of their metal range, but these would be great!

Would use them for Game of Thrones too. As I prefer the style of armour much more over war of the roses.

Well, as it's the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt next year I wouldn't be surprised to see these pushed forward if that is possible?

Maybe I can complete the list:

It is also the 70th anniversary of the End of the second World war (and the death of the austrian guy with the small beard) and the 50th anniversary of the first ground troops in vietnam and 200th anniversary the beginning of the nordic war.

But the birthday of a LAF-Member is more important, I think. Send a picture to the perrys and Aly Morrison. Maybe the will do a miniature. ;) lol

My remark was merely to suggest that there might be other sets in the queue for which could just as easily be argued some urgency.

I have no doubt that the Perrys could, if they wish so, switch out earlier orders with this (or these) set(s), but apart from that - which is a bit counter-productive in terms of ROI on the already finished sculpts - I'm pretty sure Renedra finish orders in the order they receive them.

I know they are coming, and that's basically enough. I don't think the Perry brothers would just disappear (and no, please don't kidnap them to make the half-naked amazon army in plastic you've been dreaming about for years now), so the only question is when. And till the answer for it is clear, I think I can manage it seeing the pile of plastic that needs to be converted into an army (or two...three...maybe four, but not more than five), so...

Let them come, I'll be ready, just please make a breakfast after you rape my wallet, thanks  ;)

I really don't mean to be facetious but that is almost like asking if the British infantry in the Crimea looked different to Brits in WWI!  lol

Seriously!

There were many differences in armours and fashion, just like nowadays. If I were to walk down the street kitted out in 1960's gear folk may well have a good laugh (OK, I guess and generation would do just that if they saw me walking down the street in 60's geer! lol). Same in the Middle Ages, people are people after all  :)

The one thing that's the most notable in my opinion is the differences between the full plate armor. In HYW, usually there was a coat over them with heraldic devices, but in the WotR-era, just bare metal. Take an example from the Perry's:

War of the Roses men-at-arms:

Hundred Years War men-at-arms:

Also, different styles of helmets and armour too. Tho AFAIK, for the end of the HYW, you could use WotR minis with a pinch of salt. Seeing how the war lasted for so long, changes in equipment and tactics was unavoidable.
Title: Re: Perry Miniatures Agincourt to Orleans Plastics
Post by: Brummie on April 15, 2014, 11:33:46 AM
The end of the HYW happened at about the same time the WOTR kicked of though didn't it? So that's a pretty sound statement.

However the stuff at Agincourt was very different on a number of levels, the fashion for both clothing and Armour was very different. You had far more variation (this may be more of an opinion then fact) in Armour and Helmet design during Agincourt then say during the WOTR when everything seems to be a bit more samey.

You can also, with a pinch, have some armour styles that were a hundred years old mixed in for poorer lords/fighters etc, with the more modern fashionable kit being worn by the richer, higher ranking men.

Post by: Patrice on April 15, 2014, 12:00:18 PM
In the last battles of the HYW, say 1449-1453, there was probably not much difference with the WOTR; but it was already quite different from the 1415-1429 period (which was itself very different from the beginning of the HYW in the mid-14th century).  :D

Yes you can probably have some older type mixed with the more modern ones, but you still need the last fashions. And it's not only about weapons and clothing it's also about training and drill (for example, in my opinion, bills / guisarmes were rare in France in the 14th century; there were many more in 1415-1429, but apparently mixed with other weapons, I don't think there were special units of billmen trained to walk in close order before the mid-15th century at best; etc).

It seems so. AFAIK they said the foot men-at-arms will be released August/September, and if you go to their website, some additional greens have been presented.

That's about right for me...

Things change... 1415 looked different to 1430, which looked different to 1450, which looked different to 1470 and so on.

Okay the changes may have been somewhat stark in some cases, not so much in others and with a lot of crossover between styles in between, but even as early as 1450, someone from 1415 would have looked just as odd as a 1915 British soldier would to a 1950 British soldier and likewise to one from 1985. Don't kid yourselves that 'nothing much changed'.

Well, that at least makes two of us that think the same. There does seem to be a trend when folk think of the Late Medieval period that things were quite static in terms of armours and fashion- the opposite is true, the Late Medieval period was very fashion conscious!

I am more than a little thrilled by these sculpts, they'll be a very nice Way of bulking out my existing forces. I'm also thinking that they'll go nicely with the forthcoming Medieval rules for both SAGA and Osprey.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but aren't grey versions of the WIP models further down the production track than greens? Maybe we will see these next year, after all.

For those that know about the period, how different were the French and English styles of armour at the time? Their metal range doesn't provide seperate packs for each, but it seems that there'll be a French and an English box for these.

I was thinking/wishing something similar.... maybe these 'three ups' were started a while ago and maybe, just maybe they will be ready for October this year???  ??? ??? ???. Truth be told, I just don't know.

Not really. Some minor differences depending on the time frame but if you're just starting out I really wouldn't worry about it. Worry about getting then heraldry correct instead  lol.

I don't think there was differences in men-at-arms armour between England and north-west France. As Atheling says, heraldry is more typical.
But you can have more differences in local styles of lesser soldiers who were sometimes included in these armies (if you put in some Basques or Irish etc).

This is perfect, I can mix and match parts from these with the WOTR boxes for Game of Thrones armies!  Using the simpler visor-less HYW bascinets for the Starks and the WOTR sallets for the Lannisters would be a nice easy way to distinguish them, and also make them a bit less historical looking.

I believe that the colour of the putty has nothing to do with the progress along the production timeline :) Sometimes sculptors use greenstuff, and sometimes they use ProCreate graystuff. I personally like graystuff better because it has some better properties (you can adhere thinner amounts to surfaces, etc.).

Sometimes though gray masters of the three-ups mean that some moulding has begun, but the images below look to me like 'greens' made with graystuff. The shine is the giveaway... Then again, it could just be a black and white photo of a couple of greens as well!

</end ramble>

thanks

From their FB page: 3-ups of foot knights 1450-1500. These will be plastic 28mm and are just going into tooling. They will be out later in the year, we'll post here when we have a more certain date.

So there is hope for recent production, without a firm date. ;)

Uh-huh. :) I was wondering about mixing them with Fireforge foot sergeants for north and nightswatch. Or just using them straight. And mixing with Mantic ghouls and zombies. ;) I guess I'll have to twiddle my thumbs 'til they're released to make a decision.

Not a problem - if the curriculum picks up the victories, we'll game the defeats.
Seems only fair.

Although previous club games have included Arnhem (several years ago, but a table 32 feet long) & Dieppe, M&T skirmishes, 1688 Williamite invasion, so we don't just game the big wins.

I think I've seen some people already doing that, I can't recall which threads at the moment, but IIRC it looked okay.  My thought though is if Perry are coming out with their own, why wait? Or why not mix all three? It is a wondrous age of variety we live in, the Age of Plastic.  8)

Also, every time I ponder the FF sergeants (like that last post), I go look at them for a while and think 'mmmnope'. They're not really bad, especially if you're mad for gaming whichever crusade they're for, but they're not quite to my personal tastes for cod-medieval fantasy.
