I came across this pic in one of my books. It is a Ford "A" pick-up truck modified for desert patrol. I think it looks really cool, and would be a perfect complement for my British Back of Beyond army.
I wonder if anyone knows where I can get a model of this truck in 1/56 or 1/48 scale?

I'd suggest Chieftain, they don't have a Ford A, but they might do one if you ask them kindly.

Any idea what year this picture was taken?

No exact year given in the book, but would have been in the mid-1930s. The caption says it is a unit of the 8th Hussars patrolling in Palestine and Egypt.

Does 'Chieftain' have a website (tried googling, but did not get a result)?

To all those who might be interested. I've contacted Ian Crouch and he says he will consider doing it under the Sloppy Jalopy brand.
BTW - he says he is currently working on a Ford Model "T" desert patrol vehicle for WW1 and 1920s actions. I'll keep you all posted if he manages to send me some pics.

I was going to suggest Sloppy Jalopy, but I see you are already there. Perhaps you could modify one of the flatbed or pickup versions of the Ford AA truck. Or perhaps you could paint one of those 1925 open top touring cars for the desert and stick a spare wheel on the side and get a similar effect, though its not quite the vehicle that you want.
