Title: Rogue trader Pirates and Strontium dogs
Post by: whiskey priest on April 21, 2014, 02:54:30 PM
I've been using spare time (3 kids and a wife don't leave you with much!)during the holidays (10 minutes here, quarter of an hour there) to start painting some figures for a game that me and Cheetor are hoping to play at this years Oldhammer day in August. I'm painting a Pirate crew that are going to be competing against Cheetors crew (who I believe are likely to be Orks) and other hindrances for some space-loot.

I also managed to finish Johny Alpha and Wulf Sternhammer, the Gronk is next!

Some of the Pirate crew that I just got finished this afternoon.

More info about or plans on the blog.
Back to work tomorrow. Boo!

Great stuff.
Love the old skool fellas.
 :-* 8) :-*

I am keen to do some of my own that I have been stashing away for some time now.
Maybe when you post pics of this 'Oldhammer Day' (what is this, by the way???), then maybe by then I will have cleared the decks of my current projects and I will be given the nudge to get going myself.
 :D

Oldhammer day is a really a weekend of old school gaming to be held at Foundry HQ in August and is being organised through the Oldhammer forum. I'm looking to take part in a rather relaxed Rogue Trader game followed by an all in attempt at the semi-mythical Confrontation that GW part published in White Dwarf donkey's years ago.

It's going to be fun taking these guys on :)

The colour scheme(s) on the pirates is exceptional. Great stuff.

Almost 100% certainly going to be Orks. It will be a few weeks before I get to painting them though.

Hey Colin, those laser cut things in the background... where are they from? As I'm just getting (back, after nearly 2 decades and a complete purge) into scifi I'm considering all options to quickly get a small table playable.

And, as always, the salty spacemen have me timbers a-shivering!

He is from the Lead Adventure Miniatures, Heroes and Villains line:

A wonderful sculpt, just the right amount of detail.

Mason is of course correct! Frank "Eraser" von Stein! Great figure!
And in answer to Phreed's question, the mdf stuff is all by Sarissa. Nice stuff. I went for one of the bundle offers (scroll down the page) http://www.sarissa-precision.co.uk/store/system8/
Sprayed black, a couple of squirts of gray/green/brown - whatever I had sitting about - and then attacked with two shades of rust pigment. Easy!

That is of course if I don't get distracted by doing a load of scenery, apart from ripping off Matakishi (all credit to him!), I've also started to convert my sarissa centre point so that i can install a bar!

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to post up recent bits and pieces.
First of all, you may have seen a couple of my scavvies in the 100 club but I've done another couple since. The one thats most worth posting is this guy.
He is one of the original Confrontation figures from donkeys back. They came with plastic arms but I've always hated them so i thought i'd attempt to sculpt some better ones.
I started off with a gun that already had some hands sculpted on, which saves me some hassle, and made soem armatures from wire.
A couple of sessions of greenstuffing later and he had some raggedy arms to match his raggedy clothes, along with his three mates
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-hDeJU8Wjqp0/VJ8_eXrn0AI/AAAAAAAACZQ/KzkR-szRauU/s640/blogger-image-1791861635.jpg)
And here he is with his scavvy mates

In addition to this, Antipixi came round last night and we had a game of RT. The full report can be found http://theleadpile.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/christmas-is-saved-rogue-trader-battle.html
but here are some pics to whet your appetite

Will do in the future but we have already had a game at BOYL during the summer, we simplified it a little but in future we'll be trying to play it as close to the original game as we can. It works pretty well.

Brilliant. I'm kit bashing a clan gang (inbetween everything else) with the intent of getting a few games of confrontation. I was a big fan in the day, its demise even prompting me to write my only 'but why?' letter to GW.  lol
