Title: Urban scenery for Judge Dredd (MC 01 Boundary Gate added)
Post by: Hubminator on May 13, 2014, 11:11:11 PM
Combination of CNC Workshop City tiles and scratch-built craters, plus cheap cars melted and touched up with spray paint/Tamiya rust powder.  Have ordered the Judge Dredd rules and a judges boxed set from Warlord, can't wait to have a game :)

Looks good. You could potentially paint the road a bit darker to break up the colour a bit. But, it looks simple and effective, which is probably what you were going for!  :)

Good suggestion!

The flash has washed out the colours a wee bit, there is more contrast in real life, but it is all a bit monochromatic...hmmm, thinking of getting some graffiti and tags to liven it up a bit as the buildings I have all use the same colours too

Ta  :)

That looks amazing!

I would like to know more about this melting of cars. Because it looks rather effective. How do you do it and with what?

Hey

Melting the cars was a bit hazardous, firstly it was on some cheap 1/50th plastic cars I got from the Warehouse (NZ version of Walmart/Target), I went outside, put them in a metal container, placed newspaper in and around the cars (some of it poking out like a fuse), sprayed it with some CRC (WD 40 I guess), covered my airways with a mask and lit the news paper at arms length, The fumes were not nice, so I'd definitely recommend doing this outside, also the whole flammable spray thing was pretty dodgy, it really requires being very careful.

Then I sprayed the melted results with black then white spray paint and applied the rust pigment when that had dried, I have found the spray paint I use does not adhere to the plastic cars very well, so I have to do something to sort that out, not sure what as yet...

:)

It's probably the left over WD40 which isn't helping. Have you washed the cars after you've torched them?

Nice looking scenery though. I always think of Frank Millers work when I see something monochromatic like this. Maybe leave everything the colour it is but with the odd accent of colour on the figures? Or paint the objective markers to make them really pop?

Aha! Thank you Sir Earle! Great advice, I had not thought of that  :)

Cheers for the feedback, I am just starting to read Rogue Trooper and Judge Dredd digital comics, and they are all in black and white so same could apply.

cheers :)

spray some silhouettes of a family walking along on the side of the bus as flash vaporized victims of the apocalypse war

That's a cool idea. Now, have to try and find a spot in my brain to remember it whenever the opportunity for it arises.

I really like the dusty fallout look.  The burnt bus is great, I'd like to see how you did it.

Not sure about the melted cars I have to say... thats some heavy East Meg bombing! ;)

With a setting that blasted you'd be hard pushed to see any melted remains unless of course you're thinking about ruins too?

Cheers

Got a mixture.

Burnt out high rises are Amera plastics

Rectangular buildings with some scatter terrain/crates on top are Microart Studios

Elevated walkways are Microart studios

Central hexagonal building with elevated landing pad is Warmill

Plus got some Battlefront gothic buildings in there as well, am slowly working through painting the buildings but it's time consuming without an airbrush :)
Title: Re: Urban scenery for Judge Dredd/Post Apoc gaming MC 1 City Wall WIP
Post by: Hubminator on June 04, 2014, 11:31:02 PM
Got a hankering to do a large city wall so I can connect my city terrain to my desert/cursed earth stuff, very much a WIP but am happy with progress so far, predominantly made with foam core and cardboard. Will have another section like the one in the pics plus a gate section to go in the middle.

Feedback and suggestions welcome :)

That's really coming along, and with the right sense of scale too.

That forklift truck, looks like lasercut, where it from?

Forklift is from CNC Miniatures an Australia based laser cutting outfit, they do some great stuff!

re Barbed wire, yep it does look a bit dorky kind of hanging there, I intend to glue some link mesh to the poles underneath and have the wire strung along the top, so that might improve the look a bit :)

Cheers

The forklift was designed by "mousemuffins" who now works for them (for the last year or so - of not longer).
He's been redesigning some of their older routed stuff to be lasercut.

Nice work on the city.  I'd have preferred the gate to be wider - so as to permit the passage of landcruiser/killdozer combos.  :D
