The Red Army ('72 Summit Series ;) ) are made by Impact! Miniatures:

I'm always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary and had never been able to find any ice hockey players, so when these were made available, I jumped at the chance. 8)
I had debated painting some classic NHL uniforms (Hartford Whalers, 80s dynasty NY Islanders, les Nordiques etc) but the goalie pose, mask and gear instantly reminded me of Vladislav Tretiak, so the Red Army was drafted to play. The coach behind the bench is from Pulp Figures and fit the theme nicely. I had also seen several people using clear bases recently and an ice surface was the obvious choice to tie everything together.
The whole time I was painting, I could hear Foster Hewitt making the game call with 34 seconds left...
"Henderson...!!!" 8)

As a Canuck, it is my patriotic duty to vote for hockey, especially since we won that Series.
Henderson indeed!

I love both! Matthias who makes these gorillas?
-
WOW, two great - though very different - scences!
-
Great entry D@rth, very clever. The clear bases are perfect, as is the fur hat fellow in the background.

The apes are from Obelisk, picked them up right before he closed shop. They're not exactly naturalistic but they have a brutal look I really like.
-
Who makes the Tarzan and Jane? I must have them! I won't do them just like you, your skin tones are amazing!
-
For all you Englishmen... The first pic is "Hockey". It is played on ice... ;D
Both are fabulous!

Thanks! The figures are from Tin Man, after painting them John Winter might just be my favorite sculptor.

yup, that's why they called my attention, I'm after something similar for a fantasy game, and naturalistic ones look too...well, naturalistic.

This is really my favorite match this round. :-* :-*
Beautiful colors and crystal-clear photos. The skin tone Matt is using for his Tarzan and Jane is just perfect and the idea and execution of the Red Army is really unusual. Congratulations!
-
Thanks, I thought I recognized them!
-
Excellent entries both!
When I look at that hockey image I can feel the cool air blowing on my face, smell the fresh ice, and hear the familiar echo of the hockey rink! That's a special treat, makes me miss the cold Canadian prairie winters!
Thanks

Of course hockey is a real game! ::) ;) :D
In terms of a tabletop game, no. I've never seen any ruleset that could account for the speed and flow of the game. We've attempted (poorly) to modify a couple of existing rulesets to see if we could adapt them to hockey, but alas nothing even came close. So for now, they are just for display, nostalgia and LPL fun!
