I was just curious if anyone on here plays Wings of Glory WW2? The game is quick and fun and the models are pretty cool 8)

I've spent the past four years trying to decide which one of these games I want to invest in...
WW2 is neat...WW1 is great...but all of my friends play X-Wing.
I have two of the old rules boxes for WW1 but I had to wait for Ares to re-launch the game. I might have to buy into one of these finally. It's a good simple game you can bring and throw on the table in minutes with no fuss and no need to plan/prep etc.

All three game are essentially the same...
Or at least, share most of the same ideas, as did GW's short lived Aeronautica Imperialis
Really its down to which period or genre suits or what your gaming group plays....
However, given the similarities of the rules sets and stats, you can play Luke Skywalker Vs the Red Barron if you want a REALLY silly/fun game.... ;)
Having played all of them, there really isn't anything between them in terms of game play, and getting used to pre-painted everything doesnt take that long....

We use the earlier incarnation of the WW1 game and a no brainer-out of the box-thrash when tired heads and busy days won't allow complex scenarios and rulesets to be played properly.
I have planes (inc the superb Gotha 4 engined bomber) and mats and love the games. You can't help but "go Biggles" and spout stock phrases from comic books in cod accents when you play. lol

Yeah, what pains me is that when I was in college around 1999 I actually built and painted a bunch of 1/72nd planes and created essentially the same game system (players jotted down "moves" then revealed them etc.). It was all shockingly similar to the Wings of Glory mechanics. If only I had jumped on it! lol
I'm leaning toward WW1 - there are some great sites in the states for very reasonable model purchases. My buddies all have loads of X-Wing so I'm sure I can just borrow some of those if I need to play. I figure this will be more of a "I host it" kind of thing anyway. Now that I think of it, I may have purchased several decks of planes (the card types). Might have to dig them out and give them a whirl.

I played both versions from the beginning, but in the end, WW1 became my favourite. I have ... a lot of it :D

Grant, that is a massive collection you have. Your collection looks like a shop's store. Impressive.
Do you store and transport the models in their original boxes?

Thanks! I do. Everything is in original packaging. I buy them in complete sets when they come out, basically I have ... everything that's out for WW1, including those gold/silver promo planes and the mats. I usually play at my house, so just open the closet door and pick planes! :)
I like the WW2 planes a lot, and was tempted, but stayed with WW1.

I thought the promo planes were "paint your own" planes and got really excited...Oh well. lol I wish I had pics of my old 1/72 collection. Those were fun kits. I might do that again (perhaps a convention game).
Not to muddy the waters but I play a lot of the Rise of Flight WW1 sim - definitely recommended if anyone is a WW1 nut.
