Title: Musicians/Band Members
Post by: Peter@BattleScape on June 05, 2014, 02:03:29 PM
Gday All

Well my wee lassie is looking down the barrel of a surgeons scalpel in the morning and the last thing she said was......
"Dad, I need some 28mm Bandsmen figures for my Joke Alley gang"
We play 2 types of Pulp Alley games at our place, the serious, all in no holds barred and the comical capers, lets worry more about the absurd situations than winning game....JOKE Alley.

So, we have the wonderful Pulp Figures Jazz Band.....BUT what we need are 80s/90s SKA band....yup that's right MADNESS-Night Boat to Cairo...do,do,dooo, doda, dodo, dooooo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSTHMxBttlU

That said we would also be happy with suited musicians as well.

Conversion if required is acceptable GW Cadian heads will work for certain flat top haired sunglass wearing persons, so come on, out with it....name the makers......

Oh and I am under STRICT orders not to let on what the other wee lassie has planned for her next Joke Alley Gang. Some of whom should be ready in a few days to a week....depending how much painting we do at the hospital.

Sounds like a tall order, but I wonder if it might be possible to convert some 8th Army types with instruments salvaged from elsewhere? You might be able to find some dollhouse suppliers doing instruments in 1:48.

There's also this discussion on TMP about minis bands:

http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=259593

Some good suggestions from there are the two bands from irregular miniatures (P63 and P65, with P65 probably being closer to what you're looking for) http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/indexes/25mmindex.htm as well as Space Vixens' not-Beatles http://spacevixensfrommars.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_16&products_id=191

I trust the young lady will come through with flying colours.

My first thought was to Reaper, 'cause they sell sprues...

       03032: Musical Instruments (12) ($6.99)

   P14291D: Instrument Sprue ($0.37)

P14300D: Instrument ($0.58)
P14301D: Instrument ($0.80)
P14292D: Drum Sprue ($1.83)
P14310D: Drum ($0.4)

AND Musicians:

   03098: Astrid, Female Chronicler

77078: Astrid, Female Bard ($2.29) as above in reaperbendyplastic

   50198: Gallup, Zombie Survivor ($5.99)

        50055: Sid, Rock Star ($4.99)

I don't often order from Reaper, but when I do I always kick in a few sprues of goodies...

Allow me to second Eureka's Jazz band, they are on my Want List, & different from Bob Murch's.

A photo I saw once seemed to show the instruments or arms with instruments as separate.

On closer view, perhaps not...  Can somebody who owns this group unbuilt please confirm or refute?

As I see it, to get what you SHE wants, you'll be converting base minis to musicians in costume.

Hope this helps out a bit.

Lili & I send our nest wishes to your brave daughter, and her stalwart family.

Valerik

EDIT: add Eureka pics

How about Copplestone's "Band on the Run"?  http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FW

Some of Copplestone's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang range definitely have the 'look'.  Rogue agent #1 is even wearing a pork pie hat.   However they're carrying guns, not  instruments.

This is one of the ideas that we thought of. The band does not have to be in Pith helmets and shorts.....that was just a great "pulpy" video.

Not a fan of this mob, every order I put in took months of emails to get and then the figs were part painted or part cast....swore never to use them again.

Now these have potential...with a headswop of course.....those glasses are bloody awful!!!

Eureka's Jazz band are really great figures. The instruments are not separate though.

Thank you for that confirmation.

The way the figures were jumbled in the bag it initially appeared the trombone was loose.
Further looks made me doubt, it's good to know for certain though.

Thanks for the information regarding the Eureka figures, the pictures on their website make them look terrible.  Might get a set after all.

I should have mentioned the piano and drum set are separate. I don't have the dancers, so I am not sure of those.

I hope your little one is OK and playing soon.

Also, I've had luck finding guitars at Hobby Lobby in the bead department. They're made to be dangles for earrings and such, but were cheap and just perfect for 28mm minis. I haven't looked but they might have other instruments like a Sax or a trumpet. JUst the thing for converting your own Band on the Run.

Thanks for all the info chaps....many things to think about.

Amalric....she is back at home, Docs have decided what is wrong and told us "sorry no treatment available and we can't give her medication for the pain.  Just grin and bare it".  So she is back at school for a couple of hours a day and putting up with the pain by playing Angry Birds, Pulp Alley, Talisman, Firefly and LOTS of painting and modelling. I will add some pics of the weekends work soon.
