Two years ago I bought a heap of Gripping beast republican Romans. But half way through painting them, some very nice plastic versions were released. I like the style of the Gripping beast stuff but they were abit dated and I really like the realistic proportions of Agema's plastic figures, they also fit in nicely with the Immortal/Warlord games stuff I have. I have decided to finish the rest of my army with the newer more proportioned Romans and eventually re-do all the units I have done so far with them aswell. I am not a very quick or disciplined painter so hopefully I can ignore other temptations along the way!

This is the majority of my army so far, these are also the figures I will eventually re-do!
Agema Velites - I plan to do about a unit of 12-16 and have another 6 almost complete.

Very nice work on these. When you say "re-do" you mean replace, right? What will you do with the Gripping Beast stuff?
-
I think your Gripping Beast units look excellent and I wouldn't worry about replacing them. Behind the honking great scutum and seen from above the difference is not that marked. ( I am trying to talk myself into adding Agema figures to my four current Legions! )

If you prefer the newer ones that's great but why not keep the older models in separate units to enlarge your army. They probably won't mix well in the same unit but in different units they would probably look ok.

Thanks for all your really nice comments guys, I will definitely take them into consideration.
I was planning on selling the painted Gripping Beast units alongside the stuff I have unpainted (which is about another unit or two + extras), but I will be using them for the time being. I guess I will see how I am making progress or if I am in need of more funds to buy more figures at some point in the future. :D
Cheers again, your C&C is much welcome!

I have bit bashed with Agema's Legionaries box set to create the Velites throwing which adds abit more movement to the unit.
The officer is a resin figure also from Agema. I have a unit of Italian Spearmen completed to put up here, I just need to finish off their bases before I do so.

These are the first of my Italian allies, they are Relic miniatures and are very nice sculpts. I may need to take a better photo when I get some more time as I didn't realise how poorly this one came out! :(
