I'm going to add pics of paint jobs for our Pulp/Weird War endeavors here...
Starting with this...

Pretty new to vehicles and have been using the sponge paint technique to simulate airbrushing. Starting to love it. Early war Tiger I next!

Interesting! I love weird wars in PA :-*

Very nice!

Looking forward to seeing more.

Looks great.
...been using the sponge paint technique to simulate airbrushing.
What is the technique? Any links?
-
Thanks folks!
Here's a link with examples and at the bottom is a link to the "way back machine" with a tutorial...Sort of. Pretty simple though...
http://fieldsoffireonline.freeforums.org/bravo-six-s-20mm-moderns-t2094.html?hilit=truck#p18630
I just primed the vehicle. Then painted it in the basic colour I wanted. After that a wash. On the truck I used a chestnut wash. Then get one of those triangle, dense makeup sponges. Dab it in the original colour but remove most of the paint, dry-brush-like. Start dabbing. It leaves all the cracks dark and gives a smooth air-brush look. Use a lighter colour to hi-lite with the same dabbing technique. I added a couple of yet lighter hard line hi-lites at the end. Make sure your sponge has hardly any paint on it. Once you try it it becomes fairly self explanatory.
Thanks to Mr. Peabody for turning me on to this. Maybe he can post a better tutorial as I can't find the original one I read.
Here's the tank WIP...

Looking ace!
I paint base coat with brush, then slop on a burnt umber wash, DAB it off with a cotton rag/kitchen paper, let dry, and layers of super dry dry brushing. :) who needs a fancy air brush? lol
Cheers

That sounds like a great system! Any pics of the results?

I liked the tutorial I was suggested from Bob Letterman. He is a patient genius:

Hardly humble! That stuff is da' bomb! Great work!
That is an amazing tutorial. He has the patience of a saint! I have the patience of a minor demon at best.
-
Agreed! Haha. But I'm very impressed with his results and like how smooth and convincing the final product is. Worth it I'd say. You can cut corners and wash larger sections at once, and drybrush with a more extreme highlight to make it faster but it does sacrifice quality a little. ;) yours looks great though, and pretty similar I think. :D find a workflow that works for you Gary.

Watch out for 'Intermediate Modeller's Syndrome'... ;D
Something that looks good on the table that can be ready in a very reasonable amount of time is a good goal. Especially if the techniques used lend themselves to making multiple units at one time.
Building and painting for a diorama, or purely for the camera, can lead to frustration and very few finished toys to play with.
-
'Sol about the table for me. Happy to stay a rank amateur hack :)
-
Watch out for 'Intermediate Modeller's Syndrome'... ;D
lol Fair point there Mr Peabody! ;D
-
Took Mr. Peabody's advice and did a darker wash on the tank. Also built one of those amazing damage markers! Couldn't find the original LAF'er's excellent post explaining how to! PIpe up so I can thank you properly!

Looks like the middle one is a Disney "Cars" car.

Big hitter that Lama!

Well he apparently is a boxing enthusiast - who once sparred with Brian Blessed.
-
Thought he was a golfer:)
-
the Tamiya 1/48 'Grief' is not.
-
But what scale is it??? ;D
-
interesting and very efficient sponge technique.
the misunderstanding might be sourced in the fact that "Greif" is correct, not "grief". I had to look myself more closely, no knowing 1/48 scaled emotions....
-
Even though all my stuff in this thread has been WWII, I swear this is going to be used for pulp :D
A buck an a quarter... WIP of course:)

Getting there! I added a couple of pulp minis so I don't get in trouble ;D
Duplicated over in Weird War. Never know where to put this stuff...

The green stuff job on the Bug is sketchy but it'll fly in a pinch. HAD to have a split T and rag top!

Looks great!

Cool conversion. Well done! ;)

With a collection like that, those guys up in Powell River should start lining up to play!!

Great looking work.
I especially like the job you did on the Peoples Car.
....Never know where to put this stuff...
My house of course!
