Title: Remington's Ronin Buntai
Post by: Remington on July 07, 2014, 05:43:25 PM
Some weeks ago I had my first game of Osprey’s Ronin and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thankfully I had already purchased some beautiful Perry Samurai last February.
Although the casting was again problematic, the miniatures’ poses and style is beautifully fitting and I enjoyed painting them… once I had them all cleaned up and had figured out where the face is.

Thank you guys!

I must say that the casting is at least disappointing! You get these nice miniatures and you spend at least 45 minutes per miniature trying to clean it up. Furthermore some of the faces (for example the guy in green and yellow) are so soft in detail it is frustrating for a metal mini.

I love Perry Plastics and I love the Perry Bros' style, but their metal range has had so many issues every time I bought something, that I've decided to only buy Perry metal if I can't avoid it.

sad to hear that! I never bought from them any metal, but it was my intention...

Well, that would be MORE than lovely to have some perry plastic for japanese! :D

I don't want to discourage you from buying them. Just be prepared to put some extra effort into them. That's all. :) Their style and poses, especially in this pack, are the bee's knees, so they are still an option. Just a troublesome one. :)

Very nice work. Of all the samurai figures i have i never got round to purchasing the unarmoured samurai. Better sort that out methinks

The perry metals are very nice but I think the moulds are getting pretty worn atm. Great painting btw, you have done a great job of them.

Yeah, it might be due to the mold age... but that's usually in the hands of the person doing the casting. I think the Perries had to make a choice between price and quality... The first one seems to have won.

I am not certain it's a mold issue as I don't know much about the casting process but I have heard other people express that models from the samurai line they ordered in the past were better to cast than future ones.

Stunning work :-* :-* :-*
I am not sure it is a mold issue. I recently bought some brand new perry Africa corps and they are the same

Some of the BIF I ordered had the same problem as older ashigaru and samurai as in it looks like some of the mould has broken away in nooks and crannys.

I believe they use The Mould Maker although I could be wrong.

They look great!

Too bad about the casting, it's really the only thing that puts me off the Perry samurai.

Whats BIF?

TBH Mathias they are still worth the money and still great models in my opinion.

Whats BIF?

Sorry, they are the British Intervention Force from the 1860's that the Perrys have done recently.

Beautiful painting.

I'm surprised about the poor casting. I got some sohei from them not to long ago and they were great. None of the issues you mentioned.

Thank you, guys!

@Steel Fist
Nice of you to say it. I can kick myself in my behind for not discovering your Minis earlier! I was sadly told yours are a considerable bit bigger than Perry otherwise I'd be in there ordering like mad!

@All

I also think it's a caster issue. Last Tactica the Perries were talking with Schilling, a brilliant casting service in Germany, and the consensus from Mr. Schilling was that all these issues can be avoided with better material and careful casting processes. I am beyond "not an expert" though :)
