Title: Re: AKULA's Apocalypse Isle Miniatures - 29 NEW FIGURES (pg 19)
Post by: AKULA on July 17, 2014, 02:57:59 PM
Apologies for the cross-post, but this project will have relevance to both modern & post-apoc gamers.

Just wanted to give you a quick headsup on my new project - which is to create a contemporary/near-future range set in the Asia Pacific region.

The emphasis will be upon irregular armed bands rather than military units, but with plenty of character types thrown in also.

I already have a number of miniatures and vehicles in the works - needless to say I have plans for this project to grow and grow.

Currently its still in the early stage - Ian Mountain has made some dollies for me (the first finished minis may well be barefoot and in shorts, hence the basic nature of the dollies).

The finished sculpts will be 29/30mm to the eye, approx. 32mm to the top of the head.

If you are interested, please check out my new blog, by clicking on my signature, or the following link (http://apocisland.blogspot.co.uk/)

Excellent ideas again, still love the scifi troops I got from you.  Will be keeping an eye on this one too.  Don't forget that sculpting dollies could have a good market too  ;)

Forum rule 2.10 covers cross posting, which isn't permitted.

One thread gets deleted but this seems more a PA than a modern project so I  have suggested to my fellow mod that the one in the other board be the one to vanish.

From the LAF rules:

Quote
"Cross-Posting" refers to the practice of opening multiple discussion threads on a single topic, usually in various boards. Usually, people do this because they wish to reach more viewers, for example for figure searches.

On the LAF, however, this causes problems - the various threads are separate, and the cross-posted threads do not link back to a single thread (as "ghost threads", for example on TMP, do). The larger number of threads clutters up the boards, annoys other forum users, and "fractures" the information you gain, causing people to post information which, unaware to them, was already posted on another of the threads.

Therefore, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO OPEN MULTIPLE THREADS ON A SINGLE TOPIC. If you want to open a thread, select ONE single board on which you think the topic will fit best. If you require more input than just the "board specialist" variety, please make this clear in your thread title (for example, "Looking for WW1 Civilians (possibly VSF, or Interwar figures, too)", which you then post on the WW1 board.

If you open multiple threads, the moderation team will delete ALL threads without further notice, except one "remaining core thread" on the board we consider most appropriate (for example, a thread on WW1 Naval Gaming, with "crossposts" on Interwar and WW2, and possibly VSF, will ONLY remain on the WW1 board).

Steve (mod)

Nice project though and I look forward to following it  :D

I've relocated my comment from the modern board to here.

"You've gotten my attention! I'm in the market for some good South East Asian militia / rebels types so I'll be watching this with interest for suitable figures."

Fair enough mate - I acknowledged the cross post straight off.

Trouble is (as with so many of my projects) it has applications across different genre and, from experience with the WW1 Fantasy project, you get a different bunch of posters depending upon which board it is on.

I would suggest it is more applicable (despite the title of the project) to the modern board, but then I know what the end figures should look like.

 ;)

The rules do acknowledge the multi Board dilemma but it just gets too messy on LAF.  Hey ho.

As you think Modern etc is more appropriate, rather than a straight off delete I'll transfer this one over there as well then Arlequin can merge/tidy/eliminate as he sees fit, etc.

Cheers

Done and I didn't go insane with the power handed to me either... every day in every way I am getting better.  ;)

Trouble is (as with so many of my projects) it has applications across different genre and, from experience with the WW1 Fantasy project, you get a different bunch of posters depending upon which board it is on.

I suggest you post the items that are more 'Modern related' here and should there be something with somewhat more 'apocalypse', open a post on that/those on the PA board instead. Best of both worlds and no cross-posting.

It's quite acceptable to have different parts of the same range on separate boards, but two identical or near identical threads is not. It is also okay to mention that 'other' models are in another thread and even to link to that thread.

:)

*Edit* - Where are my manners? I wish this project every success and I hope it's more irregular-based than other recent similar projects. In my head I'm seeing something not unlike Far Cry 3 at the core...

ok for this one be more specific please. I know its early days n all but when you say asia pacific its an area quite large full of very different people.

That is kind of the point....  :D

The advantage of creating a fictional island setting is that gamers can add it into their own campaign as they see fit, but also so I can introduce figures based not only upon people's from across Asia Pacific but also western countries and Africa as well.  The Isle is somewhere that flotsam washes up from across the Pacific.

I hope it's more irregular-based than other recent similar projects. In my head I'm seeing something not unlike Far Cry 3 at the core...

While the project isn't based upon a specific game, book or film, I certainly have in mind that the majority of figures will be irregular rather than professional military.  There will also be a bunch of unarmed civilian types as I want the project to be useful for roleplaying and skirmish games as well as larger scale games.

Sounds good Matt, any plans for invisible polar bears and crashed aircraft?

Anyway small irregular units would work well, separate heads woukd be a great idea for maximum variety.

Keep us posted.

Okay that works for me... CV's point about separate heads is a good one too, having an irregular force with duplicates in it doesn't quite look the part. Hard to do on a small budget, which is why I guess most companies don't touch this sort of thing and stick to 'Muhrines' and stuff like that.

:)

*Edit* - I've had a peek at the site for this now and like the Land Rover and VW Camper masters. Never satisfied, I hope you're also able to consider the Jeep CJ, Mitsubishi L200 and other retro civilian vehicle types still soldiering on in remote places at a later date.

At least this has inspired me to be thinking about a lo-tech modern imagi-nation once, which is more than other recent offerings have, cheers!

Who said the budget is small for this one ....  :D

Seriously though, having used separate heads in both the WW1Fantasy and Space Opera Projects I can appreciate the advantages they offer to building a force.

Will use them where possible, and or have some head sprues made - I'm after as much variety as possible for my own games.

I already have several other vehicles in the pipeline  ;)

Am glad it has got you thinking.

I intend to expand the background fluff but it is meant to be thought provoking rather than prescriptive - I won't be producing a map as I don't want to cramp people's creative juices. Likewise I'm not spending the budget on creative artwork or flashy bound rules - all the budget is going on greens and vehicles from the best sculptors I could find.

All things are relative... unless of course you won the lottery. If so congratulations.  :D

I already have several other vehicles in the pipeline  ;)

Excellent and you live in the North, so plenty of retro vehicles to provide inspiration for you to choose from.  ;)

No, seriously... most companies tend to go for late model vehicles, but when I look at photos of what's really out there it's a different story and I'm surprised some things are still moving around.

I'm sure you have a line-up that will wow us though... well some of us anyway.  :)

People have different demands on their time, so while quite a few may have time to develop their own thing, others not so much. With that in mind doing the fluff on the blog is helpful for them and of course a mental exercise for yourself that provides inspiration.

That said, it's all about the figures in the main though and if I am going to spend money I'd rather it went on more of them... even if they are going to remain unpainted in a box for the foreseeable future.
::)

It is something different to the norm though and despite the seeming lack of the "World's Elites" in your plan, it is far more interesting a project for that very thing.

One of the advantages of being a personal project rather than a business venture.

 :)

A business starts with the best selling pack....Roman Legionnaires, French Napoleonic Old Guard, WW2 Paratroopers, Modern special forces...  While I'm always interested to hear people's ideas ultimately I don't have the same need for "bang for my buck" that a company with ambitions of making a profit does.

Wot no renders ?!  :D

Spookily no.

I was just saying on another thread (before you posted this) about how I thought there was a market for S.E.A. figures. I added that if I could sculpt or had the spare cash to do them myself, I would. It will be good to see your first figures. I think the first figures I'd do for me might be Vietnamese militias, gangs or paramilitaries for my modern imagi-nation.

I think you should have a look at the conflict on Bougainville for ideas. The BRA (yes that is what they called themselves, PR people are thin on the ground in warzones....) had a certain look that would fit what you are wanting to do.

Yep, that's the sort of thing I'm looking at myself. A resistance movement that makes its own guns and arrow-firing catapults, reconditions 50 y/o Japanese left overs and ammo, runs its vehicles on coconut oil and has no uniform whatsoever, pretty much fills my definition of 'irregular'... then they begin capturing real weapons and things get serious. Their PNGDF opposition are no great shakes either.

The Coconut Revolution is on YouTube and is worth a watch.

If that does not do the trick, there is a fair bit online about PNG 'raskol' gangs and the ongoing West Papuan insurgency against Indonesia.

For those not into 'made-up' stuff, these are relatively lo-tech real conflicts, which pit what are essentially light infantry forces supported by light vehicles (although Indonesia seems to have an eclectic mix of modern armoured vehicles too) against each other. The PNG government hired Sandline International to support the PNGDF... although they backtracked on the deal, but it does provide a 'what if' scenario.

Obviously I imagine this to be beyond what Matt seems to be going for, but if you lean more towards 'wars' rather than 'adventures', then this range still has legs.

Oh happy memories. Twenty plus years ago I got to play the part of the Bougainville Revolutionary Army as enemy party for 2 Commando Coy (the old ARes unit, as it was). That involved tooling around in Landies, in a mix of civvie and assorted camo gear brassing up the unfortunate cut lunch commandos in a state forest above Newcastle. I fondly recall a neat little section attack we ran on one of their patrols, done on the bounce. One of them got seriously lost as a result, the other three lost their packs. They lost another one for the best part of 24 hours after we ambushed a group of them on a work up weekend for the exercise near Anglesea. That was memorable in and of itself as one of the female CARO clerks attached to us left the position whilst we were all standing to, lowered her trews, squatted and started urinating  about five metres away (uphill) from where me and my oppo were positioned. The silly cow had the gall to shriek out 'don't look!' as the disbelieveing soldiery who witnessed it.

Whilst they were a fabulous extreme sports club, with all that abseiling, parachuting, canoeing and scuba etc, as a military entity the commandos were always bloody farcical, more dangerous to themselves than any potential opposition and that despite having a cadre staff made up of SASR. Rarely has a group of people been so full of themselves without any discernible rationale to back it up. Even the appies had better IMT skills.

About a month for the VW and Landrover, but the crew for the Landrover will be longer (crew will be sold separately as the vehicle has a canvas top option).  The first casting will be off to a sculptor to get the crew sized properly.  I don't have prices yet as I need to see what the casters bill comes in at (the Landrover comes with lots of customisable options, roof, stowage and guns.

As always, will keep you guys posted.

Excellent news. You can put me down for at least three of the Landies. Hopefully the crew will be generic enough to span the decades, I'm hoping for something to fill out my 1960s Brits and I'm sure there are a few people who would like them for Rhodesians etc.

First WIP greens - unarmed civilians (by Ian Mountain).

The inhabitants of the Isle will be from all over the world, and a mix of unarmed/armed types. 29/30mm to the eye approx 32mm to the top of the head, on sports tabs rather than integral bases.

Quicker than 99% of Kickstarters...  ;) lol

I don't want to give you a timescale in case i cant keep to it (as good sculptors shouldn't be rushed), but Ian (and other sculptors) are working upon a whole bunch of greens for me, so the plan is to release the civvies when I've got a moulds worth to castup (to keep the costs reasonable).  The first wave of commissions are already funded so its a case of when sculptors finish greens - hopefully not too long.

Re: the vehicles - they will be ready in 2-3 weeks as I've already got the masters. The VW Camper van already has an integral driver, but I am getting crew made for the Landrover - copies of the master are already with sculptors to get this done, but again I can't give an exact date for the crew.  I will make the Landrover available when cast up, and then sell the crew separately when they are castup.

Can we expect to see something like this made for the project?

By a happy coincidence I already have a 4x4 with rollbar on the todo list.

Quick Update:

I've got the first master castings of the 1/55 Landrover and VW Camper back from Griffin.

The Landrover comes with a whole bunch of stowage, 3 x GPMGs and a separate roof meaning that you can customise your fleet.

It will be probably be c2 weeks before I have castings of the landrover and VW Camper available (and able to confirm the cost) but if you drop me a PM I will contact you with details of how you can get hold of some and the costs as soon as I have them.    ;)

N:B I am having some crew made for the landrover and will make these available separately (the VW Camper has an integral driver).  There will hopefully be a couple of options for land rover crew, but it may be a couple of months before these are ready as they will have to go in a fresh mould when finished (a copy of the Landrover master has gone to the sculptor this week to size the crew).

This is great, there is a serous lack of decent unarmed civilians to be used in western country's.

I don't know so much, I suspect because it is on white that it contrasts more... if the vehicle itself was a darker colour (or indeed any colour - iirc they tended to be a colour on the bottom and white above the bottom of the window line) it might look a lot different with the same amount of corrosion. Check out a photo of Hurley's from Lost for a comparison if there's one about.

Very nice - but ... you do know that the Land Rover bodywork is aluminium and so does not rust?  The steel chassis does rust but you cannot see it from above!

I love the vehicles, especially the VeeDub van. I owned three campers,71,74 and 85. Remember, they leak oil,no heater worth a darn till the 'Wasser Boxer",engine,no speed difference w/three or four cylinders55mph or 88km's. The camper top will extend up on the highway w/ wind coming thru the windows if one of the top latches are loose. It is hard to shift in the cold till the car warms up.which in the winter is never. However never gets stuck,w/ mud and snow tires on the rear, lots of room ,and when the celenoid goes out in Wyoming,it will work in high cool altitude and pushstart in the lower altitudes. God I miss those vans. Great job on the vehicles.

At this point we might want to define some limits on what 'a fantasy island' is as regards this project.  lol

They only stopped making Kombis in Brazil last year but despite that, the overwhelming majority you see on the roads are aged and clapped out versions used as alternative transport by budding entrepreneurs.  Kombi is shorthand for gypsy taxi-van, even now that the majority aren't the classic kombi. My wife and I were trapped inside one on a 30 + C on Itaparica a few years ago. It was 30 something outside but was soon about 40 inside as we were packed in like sardines. The doors failed, the conductor/fare collector who always sits up front couldn't get it open and the enormous woman who was closest to the door got wedged trying to get out the window (that was never going to happen). Funny in retrospect. Could have done with the open roof version then.

You do see quite a few in a utility/ pick up truck configuration. I recall there was a factory built version but quite a few people have done their own conversions. I once saw one that someone had converted in a fairly rough and ready fashion into a flat bed truck.

I've often thought that Pattaya Thailand would be a good setting for an Post Apocalypse game. It has a beach setting, possible Russian Mafia connections, Local Police and Army Forces. Stranded tourists trying to survive day to day. Indian and Thai locals etc etc. Pirates, Muslim separatists etc. I have quite a few of the Foundry Street War packs, so when this project was announced it reminded me of my thoughts. Not sure how deep Akula is going with this but it has my interest.

Russian Mafia? No, but I have got Cartel/drug smugglers on my todo list
Local Police/Army? Apoc Isle will be a bit lawless but will have a uniformed paramilitary bnch amongst the options.
Stranded Tourists? LOTS.
Indian/Thai Locals? Definitely have a variety of "locals" on the list from a variety of origins from around the Asia-Pacific region (which as Scurv pointed out gives a lot of options).
Pirates? YES
Separatists? Should be usable options.

Without going into too much detail, the scale of this project is bigger than anything I've produced before.... My current commissions are a mix of dollies and one-off greens, which will give some real breadth to the project, but also hopefully some real characters.  My last (space opera) project had roughly 50 poses.... I'd like this project to go a LOT further, and keep growing....

All of this depends of course upon how much interest the initial wave of releases gets - I don't want to KS this so have paid for everything upfront, which means you will be able to get your hands on the castings a lot quicker than a Kickstarter. All proceeds from the initial wave of releases will go straight back into an additional wave of greens.

Spoke to Griffin and should have castings of the Landrover and VW Camper van by this time next week.

Also more greens on their way - armed/unarmed civilians, plus some pirate types.

Once they arrive will get the first figure mould made.

Some new greens.

Will stick a comparison photo up (the squares are 1/2") on average the figures in the project are 30-32mm to the top of the head, but some will be a smidge bigger/smaller as people come in all shapes and sizes.  The Ian Mountain civvies are a little taller/bulkier than the Shane Hoyle ones.

No, sorry mate. I've got two sculptors working on drivers, and the first of these is likely to be another week or so, meaning they will go in the next mould.

The last two figures for this mould were completed today (by the same sculptor as the latest batch of greens), no photos yet, but will post up when they arrive early next week.  As soon as I recieve them, the first sixteen greens will be off to the mouldmakers.

Its a bit of a race at the moment between sculptors (there are actually four currently) but on the plus side it means the second mould shouldn't be too long as i already have enough commissions currently in progress.  The sculptors have complimentary styles, so the project should gain some momentum, that is if people like the first wave enough to buy some  :D

Whoever they are, I'm imagining them working in a tin-roofed jungle shack under the watchful gaze of an AK-toting guard. Occasionally one of  the bedraggled and heavily-bearded sculptors is allowed out under guard to attend to calls of nature, which involves them clutching their manacles and hobbling into the nearby bushes, sparing the odd glance at a merciless tropical sun in the process...

As you can hopefully see, the greens in the project are all in the range of 30-32mm to the top of the head, and so should hopefully fit in with other contemporary figures (the squares are 1/2").

Apologies, but that was the only Empress mini I had unpainted/unbased, wanted one standing a bit straighter, but you should get the gist.

It boggles my mind that people with Kickstarter money take longer than you to get shit done. Your projects really put it into perspective. I've backed a couple Kickstarters that are small ventures, about the same number of figures, that take months if not a year to get it out the door.

Keep me on your mailing list for these, I'm in for one of each at least.  :-*

I wont bothering with a KS again unless it is a company with a good track record of planning them properly.
Had a few good experiences followed by two awful ones, both from Spain, from which I am still waiting over a year later.

Nothing easier than getting a bunch of greens, get them cast up and sell them.
Why do some have difficulty with that idea?

Quick Update:

Just received the first production castings of the 1/55 Landrover and VW Camper back from Griffin.

The Landrover comes with a whole bunch of stowage, 3 x GPMGs and a separate roof meaning that you can customise your fleet.

How much would it cost to acquire some of these gentlmen.

They are with Griffin for casting at the moment - once they are cast I will have a cost per spin, and can work out a price for them - my aim isn't to make a profit, but rather to cover the cost so commission, moulds and production.

Will post on here when they are available

Adore the landys.  8)

I wont bothering with a KS again unless it is a company with a good track record of planning them properly.

KS are changing their terms from mid October with regards to projects not being completed. The gist is the failed project needs to produce a good excuse, and if possible offer a partial refund. KS & Amazon still accept no liability and keep their cut.

Mini review:

My order of two Land Rovers and a Kombi arrived today, which is really very quick service to the antipodes around a week and it may have been less as i only checked the mail today. Everything was securely packaged and arrived intact. Excellent service from Matt who was also great in letting me know when items were posted.

All the items are very cleanly cast and beautiful little models.  The Landies are gorgeous little resin models with a ton of white metal extras. The VW Kombi is a real delight. White metal two piece body which has been very cleverly designed so it's a seamless fit. I'm quite chuffed that it matches my Disney Pixar kombi pretty well for size. My only issue with it is that I would have preferred it without a cast in driver but that's no biggy and overall I'm delighted with my purchases. I can see myself buying some more Land Rovers.

Great service, lovely models. Highly recommended.

Before I order the new figures, is there an ETA on crew for the Land Rovers?

Yes indeed.

I have one civilian-type driver being posted to me this week by Ian Mountain, plus a more paramilitary-type driver and standing gunner being worked upon by Mark Evans.  There are also another ten civvies being worked upon by Ian M. and Shane Hoyle that I should also have in the next week or so.

Once the driver/gunner arrive from Mark they will all go straight into a second mould for casting - realistically though, it may be between 2-4 weeks for completion of those greens, plus another 2-4 weeks for mould-making/casting by Griffin - from my point of view they are a priority and will definitely be in the next mould, but I can't give a more exact timescale than that due to the variables.  I also have a restock on order with Griffin for the land rover, which should be with me in 1-2 weeks (I still have some VW Campers).

Just to reiterate though, as this is all funded personally, and not a business or a kickstarter, I'm hoping that my fellow LAF'ers will buy the first wave now, rather than hold off for a couple of months as I have casting bills to pay  ;) :D

Currently waiting on a restock of the Land Rover, which should arrive any day.

Have some more greens to post up shortly - more civvie types from Ian Mountain, including a driver for the Land Rover, plus some more characters from Shane Hoyle.

Also in the pipeline are some more vehicles, plus some paramilitary-type minis.

Still have some of everything figures-wise, so drop me a PM or email me using the address on my blog (link in my signature below) if you are interested.

Thanks for all your support so far - just a quick update:

Am still waiting upon fresh castings of the Landrover - spoke with Griffin this morning, and they are working extra hours catching up on the backlog of orders caused by the pre-Crisis Rush.

On the figure front I will have a fresh bunch of greens to go off for mouldmaking very shortly - six more civvies and a driver for the Landrover from Ian Mountain, and plus four more characters from Shane Hoyle.

In the meantime, I still have castings of everything else, so PM me if you are interested.

These were made from the same dollies as the first bunch so are a similar height - the brief for future greens will be to provide some more variety in terms of height, shape, pose etc.

A couple more greens....more civilians.

It had been pointed out to me, that for a game set in the Asia-Pacific region that I didnt have any locals, so this time Shane Hoyle has sculpted a fisherman and his wife.

Not my best photo, but he has a net over his shoulder, string of fish in his other hand, and his shoes/flip flops tucked into his pocket. His good lady wife is carrying a basket of fruit/veg that she has just picked. Both unarmed.

Correspondingly shorter than the others .... Will take a comparison photo when I get a minute.

Ten new greens - two more civvies by Shane Hoyle, and eight paramilitary types by Mark Evans. Apologies for the giant photos.

These are off to Griffin today for casting.

All orders placed placed between now and Midnight on Monday 2nd March will qualify for free postage, as long as payment is received by then (UK orders will include Signed For, Rest of World is standard Air Mail - extra charge for International Tracking if requested). PM me for details.

Please note - you can pre-order the new figures pictured below to take advantage of the free post - if you do I will post your entire order in one go, once these are cast up, so there may be a slight delay (turnaround on moulds is typically a fortnight but may be longer at this time of year).

A new green courtesy of Kev White.

Named after the proprietor of Fenris Games due to a passing facial resemblance, rather than because he walks around with a machete...

Useful as a guide, tracker, pirate etc

Won't be available for a while, as I need to get a moulds worth of greens together first.

Just wanted to chip in to say that Akula's soldiers are lovely figures in the flesh.  Mine are now currently in the process of being (poorly) painted.  I'd say they fit in very well with Empress, are a smidge shorter than Spectre (who seem on the large side), and are a smidge taller than MoFo (who seem on the small side).  I should imagine, painted up in a unit, they'd all fit very well together regardless.

Thank you for the kind words, have received the "Geronimo" green and he is even better than the photos do justice.

 :)

Will pop him in the next mould (may be a little while as I need to add some more greens to make it worthwhile adding another mould).

In the meantime, I've just received a fresh batch of the landrover model - drop me a PM if you are interested as the last bunch went in the space of a week.

Just a quick heads up - due to a recent flurry of orders, I'm down to my last three landrover models.

I don't have a date for when I will have more, as currently every spare penny is going on additional commissions, so if you are interested in getting hold of one of the landrover kits, drop me a PM here on LAF....  ;)

Each kit comes with all the guns stowage etc in the photo - the picture below gives some example setups.

The latest moulds worth of castings have literally just arrived....

Will get some better photos sorted, but thought you want to have a quick looksee.

Please PM me if you would like details of how to get hold of them

3 new packs:

APOC 012 - "Geronimo" (1 figure by Kev White)

APOC 013 - Pirates (4 figures by Mark Evans)

APOC 014 - Governor-General's Army (7 figures)
These last ones were conversions I did for myself, based upon some of the masters that Ian Mountain/Mark Evans made for me.
I'd originally intended these to be just for my own project, but they turned out well, so I popped them in the mould - apart from headswops, they also have additional kit to offer some more variety. Six are armed with FN FALs and one has a M249 (used under license from Hasslefree Miniatures).

Full list of what is available below:

APOC 001 - Pirates (3 figures by Shane Hoyle)
APOC 002 - Armed Civilians (7 figures by Shane Hoyle)
APOC 003 - Unarmed Civilians (6 figures by Ian Mountain)
APOC 004 - Unarmed Civilians (6 figures by Ian Mountain)
APOC 005 - Fisherman & Wife (2 figures by Shane Hoyle)
APOC 006 - Vehicle Crew (2 figures by Mark Evans & 1 fig. by Ian M.)
APOC 007 - Landrover (resin body/metal wheels, stowage, guns)
APOC 008 - VW Camper van (all metal) - N:B integral driver
APOC 009 - Box Van (all resin)

Firstly an apology for the slight delay in responding to PMs over the last week - I'm on holiday in Mexico, and the availability of wi-fi has been more sporadic than advertised by my hotel.

Secondly, thought it was worth a quick mention that Apocalypse Isle has just celebrated its first year's anniversary...

In the first 12 months, there have been 49 miniatures plus 3 vehicles produced, and there are still plenty of ideas on the todo list, and not a kickstarter in sight.....  ;)

Thanks again everyone that has supported the project so far - I hope you enjoy future releases as much.

I am sure he would be happy to take your money.  lol
But honestly if I wasn't so broke, I would pick up both the unarmed civ set, the fishermen and his wife and guitar hero with critic.
The last two remind me of two guys I know that frequent the local dive bars.

Firstly an apology for the slight delay in responding to PMs over the last week - I'm on holiday in Mexico, and the availability of wi-fi has been more sporadic than advertised by my hotel.

Does anybody know if Akula is still on holidays?
Tried to contact him a while ago regarding his minis but haven't received an answer yet

He has returned from his holidays, but is working away from home at the moment. I'd send him another email were I you as the last one may have been mangled by dropped connections in Mexico.

I have received the figures I had ordered and they are F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!! Very good and a perfect customer service. Impeccable.

They have been chosen to participate in my next modern combat test-game, with "Black Ops" this time.

I do know he's very busy, and this is a part-time personal project so an email might be quickest.

Hi everyone, apologies for not being on recently, been a little busy what with floods, broadband going down, and then straight back into manic-mode with the day job.

One more day of craziness (ie tomorrow) and then I will be in a position to work my way through all, the PM and email back log.

On the plus side, I have some new goodies currently being worked upon, so will have an update in the next day or so.

Thanks again for your patience.

I don't think anybody holds it against you.

We've all seen the news, I think, and floods are force majeure, per se.

I'm just looking forward to see whatever new stuff you're getting done (although I'm not really gong to get a lot of it, unless I reboot my interest in post-apoc/zombiecalypse gaming).

A quick update, and apology to anyone that has been trying to get hold of me recently.

I've been having some major problems with my email account, which has only been exacerbated by moving house, and the subsequent lack of broadband, wifi or even a mobile signal - I've inadvertently bought a house in the nineteenth century....  :?

I hope to have the situation fixed this week, at which point I will reply to anyone that had been trying to contact me regarding the Apoc Isle project.

Thanks again for your patience.

Title: Re: AKULA's Apocalypse Isle Miniatures - I'M BACK
Post by: AKULA on October 02, 2016, 01:14:58 PM
Well I'm back.... it fair to say that the last 9 months or so have been challenging to say the least. First of all the floods around York, then a protracted housemove that saw everything in storage for much longer than expected, and then most recently my sister passing away suddenly and very unexpectedly at the age of 48.

I'm sure you will understand when I say that I've had my mind on other things, but to be honest I'm keen to get back into the hobby for a change of pace!

First up, I have just received a restock of everything from Griffin, including of course the lovely 1/55th scale landrover that comes with all sort of goodies... a whole bunch of stowage, 3 x GPMGs and a separate roof meaning that you can customise your fleet.  Crew are available to purchase separately.

Details of everything that is available, plus photos can be found on the following link:

http://apoc3.blogspot.co.uk

The good news is that I have significant plans for more vehicles, and figures, but of course could do with a few more sales in order to fund getting the next wave (and it will be quite a wave) cast up......  :D

If you are interested and would like a price list, please email me at akulasarmies@outlook.com and include your postal address so I can provide an idea of postage costs also.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to thank you all - without your support (and patience) it wouldn't have been possible.

Just under two and a half years into the project, and there are now 78 figures and 5 vehicles (including the new watercraft) in the project.

The good news is that I've still got plenty of ideas to expand it further.
