Title: Pax Bochemannica Qs about background & Caliver figs.
Post by: katie on July 23, 2014, 08:30:39 PM
So I'm currently painting the box set... and I was wondering -- who are the halflings supposed to be? The name "Boche" suggests the German tribes, but I also get the impression in various places that they're supposed to be English hooligans...

Also; Does anyone know what the pack consist is of the figures being sold by Caliver? The pictures appear to show a lot of variants (eg; there seem to be 8 poses Roman orcs, but there are only 4 in the base set). Are they a random pick of the available poses?

I have always imagined the Boche as a cross between ancient Germanic Celts and skin-head football hooligans.

I think anything else might be a little too stereotypical!

I have tried seeing the  packs on the Caliver site, but was not able to get an image.  Sorry

You are better off going to the Minifigs site - they have images.

I hope that this helps

OK. Then in that case the Orc Legionaries are different versions of the same four models, painted differently some with shields and some without, some with spears and some with swords - simple conversions.

The Halflings are the same - just different versions of the base Boche.

Cut away the spears or swords and you have most of these. Add shields ad you have a whole posse of variation.

There was plans for some more archers, but I'm not sure we will ever see them.

I hope that this helps.

Title: Re: Pax Bochemannica Qs about background & Caliver figs. Update on figures!

Threadomancy!!

OK, So I ordered a bunch of the figures. And from http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/images/catalogue/PAX03.jpg (http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/images/catalogue/PAX03.jpg) I got #2 (x2), #6 (x2) and #8 (x2). There were also two figures with pila -- #9 (which I also got in the base set) and also #5!!.

Which I suspect means there are actually more than just the four poses. #4 and #7 are clearly repeats of #1. But I think #1 and #3 will turn out to be available as original metals as well... There's definitely 5 different poses out of that row so I would think the other two are extant as well.

Even more of a surprise are the Boche. I ordered 4 packs of the 5 figure warband, which I suspected would be a random pick from the figures in http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/images/catalogue/PAX14.jpg (http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/images/catalogue/PAX14.jpg) which includes figures from the basic box and some others... and so they seem to be. But some of them are open-handed and they come with weapons sprues!! There's a bundle of swords, spears and axes to glue on to get more variety. And I have a suspicion that the chap at the far right in green trousers has the possibility of a fairly easy conversion to be an archer.
