Title: Sturm Grenadiers: **SCOUTS COMPLETED**
Post by: Pappa Midnight on August 05, 2008, 06:19:30 PM
I started doing some more infantry for Secrets of the Third Reich and I really like the new minis by Artizan, but there are only a few poses available.
I looked through their range and found some "normal" troops which would be easy to convert. It was a simple case of sculpting some gas masks and body armour to match them up ( sort of...)

Artizan Conversions

The commander has just had a head swap with a Westwind SOTR mini and the other four have gas-masks and armour sculpted on.

These guys are "As is" with no conversion.

Mix and Match

The seem to fit together OK.

Next up will be an MG42 crew and some riflemen.

Great conversion Pappa! If you mixed them all up I'm not sure I could tell which you did and which already were.

Lovely, truely lovely, just one thing again (like with your ruskies)...

GLOVES!!  :o

You always forget em mate, first your russian's had their poor fingers frozen to their weapons, not this lot are gonna be left with zombie hands, (like Jass hands but less animated...or even more animated depending on your perspective!).

Thanks Slobberblood, glad you like them!

Thanks Commander. I take on board what you're saying about the gloves but I did the hands "flesh" to break up the dark tones ( more appearance than practical!!). When I finish the next lot ( Heavy weapons and MG42's) I'll try them with black gloves.

The canisters are very simple. I just found some thin "Sprue" from a model kit and cut some thin discs. Alternatively you can buy thin plastic rods from most good modelling suppliers.

They look great! Also nice to see one in the unpainted version, which gives more of an idea of the extent of the conversion.
I'm tempted to try some myself now, but I already have so many minis still to paint.

Thanks, it'll make fleshing out my Artizan ranks so much easier, the WIP pic is ideal. Have you tried procreate? It's much easier to get harder edge objects like armour!

What's an Aufklarer team?

"Aufklarer" means military intelligence, so "Recon Team" would be a rough translation. I'm sure one of our German friends will put me right if I've messed up my translation again!!!

In most cases Aufklarer (german: Aufklärer) means scout or spotter. Recon team would be a reasonable name.

The AT team are Artizan Designs conversions ( German Winter AT Team). the panzerfausts are part of the mini.

If you are looking for separate weapons I bought some from Bolt Action Miniatures. They are a little thinner but look very good with most 28mm minis. Unfortunately they are currently out of stock.
http://www.boltactionminiatures.co.uk/shop.php

You could also try The Assault Group:
http://www.theassaultgroup.co.uk/store/product.php?productid=445&cat=35&page=2
I haven't got any of their stuff yet but I'm looking at their modern soviet weapons ( Sniper Rifles specifically) for some Weird War conversions.

I have some of Assault Group's modern Soviet/Vietnam weapons. They are chunky and overscale (they size in perfectly with my 1/48 scale HLBS modern Africans and Balkans troops). The sniper rifles are nice castings, about 31mm long.

For my WWW2 project I have found that by combining Assault Group's RPD machine gun (removing the barrel forward of the magazine) with the front half of their AK47 I will be able to make guns that look and scale in perfectly with my Copplestone Soviets, thus giving me lots of potential for converting figures from other ranges.

Artizan mini with IR goggles added

Hi PM,

I like the 1:48 model kit of the Luther. There are 5 different weapon systems in the box. The assembly was easy and all parts fitted well.

a picture of the assembled walker ready for priming
(http://www.elladan.de/031%20Luther/DSCN1461.JPG)

I took a lot of pictures of the sprues, assembling of different parts etc. and will start a topic with them in the next days/weeks. I will give you and all interested here a short info.

The service was very good and the kit was worth the money.

I've got to say that I'm REALLY impressed with your site! :o

Thanks for the build up process of the Luther. This kit is a definite buy for this year!

BTW: Your bombed out buildings are excellent!!!!!

Look forward to seeing your finished Luther.

Regards
PM
