Just finished this! I love this technique. Glue a few bits of fir bark to some Styrofoam, slap on a bit of drywall mud... Some paint and flocking to taste! This ones a bit big about a foot long. Maybe 14".

It may be worth doing a stage by stage tutorial for those interested wink wink, nudge nudge haha.
Looks great though, something I would use in a monster hunt scenario :)

Thanks folks! I have another ready to go I'll take some WIP shots. I got the technique from this! It's really an awesome tutorial and much better than I could ever do:)

Neat result. the overhang looks great.
The figures are sweet as well - I period close to my heart and not often seen.

Cool. I want to get some bark now, big chunks!

Very nice! I've been looking for a method to do some rugged terrain. Been using cork but this looks better. :)

It's really quick too! Other than drying time which was overnight for the drywall mud it only too less than 2 hours. The mud application is fast... Paint too. All in all very easy. I live on a lake and the bark washes up by the ton but you can buy a bag of landscaping bark that will last a lifetime. Might not get the nice variation is size I'm lucky enough to have though.

Amazing stuff, thanks for the link!

Any tips where to get bark like that from a webstore?
-
Nope, sorry. Never even looked. Was sorta considering selling some completed stuff but would also consider selling the "Raw lumber":) Though I'd prefer to trade for minis and terrain. PM me if anyones interested in either the bark or finished pieces!
Thanks for the comments and interest!

If you have a flower shop nearby they often stock it for decoration as do pet shops that sell reptiles.
You may have to take a half round bit (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Purrfect-Pet-Products-Real-quality-cork-bark-for-Reptiles-half-round-/291197106958?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item43ccb33b0e) and break it up though.
